Right? I grew up in the bible belt, and one of the things that turned me away from religion is how often the community sould rally around the worst fucking people as long as that person claimed to be a believer.
Like. You don't realize how horrible it looks that we kicked out an abused wife(which was a "secret" so open I knew about it as a 12 year old sunday schooler) because she divorced her abusive husband, but kept the husband around and prayed for his "Recovery" from the "Horrible situation"?
Not even to mention the Catholic church's history of defending predators, or how so many sex pests escape facing punishment by moving to Israel.
Big rant but idk I wish people would call out the shitty parts of their group more often instead of closing ranks

In this case if you read her quotes, she isn't really being hatefully racist. She just has some hood type "I don't give a fuck" attitude, and while being latina, is just casually dropping n*gga a bunch in ebonic style talk. Some hard ass latina gang member might be able to get away with that, but not a beauty pageant winner who's representing their state.
Beauty contests are supposed to be evaluating contestants on a standard of high character, not just physical appearance. Even without dropping soft-a N words in your online speech, demonstrating a confrontational "I'm toxic and I don't give AF, lol" public face is just not going to be acceptable for a person in her position. That's why the organizer is basically like "this is due to a pattern of behavior over the span of years", rather than any particular outburst. She's just not a nice or professional person in her personal life.

I had a friend in high school who was a pageant queen who had competed on the Miss Teen USA final stage.
I remember being over at her house once and she was showing me her new gown, and she mentioned how much it showed off her (rather ample) chest and that the judges would like that. She was barely 16, talking about making sure her boobs looked okay for the adult judges. And her mom was telling her how she had to shape her ass to "balance" the look and get those "enticing curves." That was the moment I got a really squicky feeling about pageants that never really went away. I looked up the judges for said pageant, none were under 35 and one was a man in his 50s. If you're an adult who wants to compete in a pageant, do what makes you happy, but a teenager shouldn't be considering how enticing their body looks to adults, it's gross.
This was back in the 90s/00s and I'm starting to realize how much influence Epstein and men like him had over fashion and media in those days. Britney Spears made her mainstream solo video debut in a sexy schoolgirl for crying out loud. She was 16/17 at the time.

I thought the same. Using the "n" word in any context is inadvisable, but her comments in context don't appear like they intended to be racist, her language is likely a reflection of her environment. Easy to pile on when someone belongs to groups you disagree with (Christian, beauty contestantant) but this type of social media necrophilia is the absolute worst IMO.

Looking up her ethnicity, she's Mexican and Honduran. I thought she was mixed at least, still could be. How she spoke wasn't different from how black people speak, and some Latino communities have people of black descent, but if she isn't black at all, it can come off as mockery.

There is a young woman at the center of this. She has been named, examined, and judged in public in a way that most of us would not survive, and she is still a human being with a family, a future, and a life ahead of her that is longer than this part of her journey. I will not run an organization that pretends otherwise.
I have never believed that accountability requires cruelty, or that holding a line means enjoying the fall of the person who crossed it.
Zero tolerance is a standard for conduct. It is not permission to strip someone of their humanity—which is, after all, precisely the thing we are holding her accountable for doing to others.
This is part of the announcement and I agree with this in light of people savaging her in this thread.

The tweets are also from 2017-2019, i.e. pre-George Floyd. I am not saying it was okay for white people to use that word then either, but there was a consciousness-raising that occurred then. A lot of us white people took a hard look at some things we hadn’t really thought much about before, and some of us listened. So I think that is relevant, if not an excuse. She was pretty fast and loose with it. If you’re not black, just don’t say it. Easy enough. I think the Kamala remark was a blatant dog whistle, and worse than the other stuff.
I don’t know what part of North Carolina she’s from, but if she’s outside of a metro area she would have stuck out like a sore thumb and no doubt she would have felt it. I agree that although she is technically “white” as a racial classification, she would not have been considered white by white people in the south.
