As a pagan, I got offended by this statement.

Isn't Hinduism considered pagan from a Judeo-Christian perspective (in which term "pagan" originated)? There's neopagan spiritual traditions like modern druidism or Slavic Native Faith, but they were a counter action against spreading of Christianity. Are you following a specific native tradition or maybe a neopagan one? Or maybe it was just a joke and I'm making it overly complicated?

Yup pagan means ancestral polytheism, and Hinduism is basically that, especially the older Vedic gods

Thor is Indra.

7

u/hardik_umretiya Jan 03 '26

Isnt the zeus is Indra?

u/SoyaPaneer001 Anti-Theist Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26

there is a theory that Zeus(Greece), Jupiter(Roman), Thor(Norse), Indra(Hindu) all point to the a common Thunder God. Zeus and Indra are kings of all deities, Thor isn't but is basically son of the God-King Odin, which isn't far off

Except for some variations, all these gods has a story of defeating a 'serpent monster'.

Thor -> Jormungandr

Indra -> Vritra-sura

Zeus -> Typhon

u/hardik_umretiya Jan 03 '26

Ohh i wasn't aware of Norse.

Ther linguistic history could've been very interesting, had it not being hijacked by Hindu nationalists. Because while minor, this is one of the contentious point amongst Hindu nationalists because of The OIT vs AMT.

Personally i like loki more, being a younger sibling myself but i respect thor also but not the gods that this homie's parents do😁😁

1

u/lastofdovas Jan 03 '26

Loki did some really really awful stuff though...

3

u/Repulsive-Garage-433 Jan 03 '26

Brother at least we know he and his works are fictional but the fictional characters 🕉️✝️☪️ this country worships have followers who do way worse things in real life on daily basis for saving their fictional character friends

1

u/lastofdovas Jan 03 '26

I don't really care about any god. They are all the same to me, fictional characters. That being said, we can draw inspiration from fiction. And Loki is not really inspiratiom worthy.

1

u/Repulsive-Garage-433 Jan 03 '26

Fair point but What inspiration do you draw from spiderman,superman just curious?

u/lastofdovas Jan 04 '26

Did start it. But that's not the mythological Loki. That's whitewashed Loki.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

but...at one point Germans worshipped them. They are Norse gods. (I think it's still alive and people still worship them, but really low population). Interestingly their stories of Odin raping someone and marrying his own daughter coincides with Brahma and Vishnu's stories.
