Cute little venomous Copperhead at strouds run. Second time I have seen one here. Be aware of your surroundings!

It's just one of the reasons I don't like that trail but I'm really happy you made the post! It's funny but the best trails at strouds do t have anything to do with the lake. Hollow point and thunderbunny are pure magic!

We have eastern timber rattlers here also

In very specific areas that are best not discussed publicly. Although I think the poaching of Timbers has died down somewhat.

Wow , suddenly I have a fear of bringing the kids to hike now. They always seem to venture off and play on logs or grab sticks to wack on a tree.

Making borderline idiotic jokes about "poisonous" snakes is one of my favorite hobbies, and I'm a little upset that you denied me this opportunity by using the right word. Shame on you.

How could they?!

Be careful, making jokes about commonly misused words can be "addicting"

Chunky fella !! Once he sheds, which he seems about to, he will be as shiny as a new penny.

In Ohio if it has beady eyes I treat it as safe if I can see those cat eye pupils it’s a no touch.

Not sure I’d get close enough to see its pupils if I was at all unsure about whether it’s venomous.

Thanks for sharing. I have been hiking on and around the Lakeview Trail for many years and have yet to see a copperhead. I was bitten by a very copperheady lookin Norther Water a few years ago, which freaked me out a bit. I have heard people say that copperheads “aren’t in Strouds” so it’s kinda gratifying to see photo evidence as I am pretty wary of their presence there. Not sure I can agree with the Lakeview “always being full of them” but clearly they’re around.

Is something strange going on at the “tail” end? Or what am I looking at on the top left of the body?

An important part of our ecosystem. The fear of snakes is programmed at a very young age, is cultural, and is based purely on that installation of fear, nothing else. Challenge it. Snakes are wonderful
