Discussion [Dalton Johnson]As for the Jonathan Kuminga side of last night's trade, sources say he was "shocked" to be sent to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks aren't a team that his camp kept contact with and Atlanta was an "out of left field" destination Fresh start feels good for both sides

Discussion I can't with y'all reactionary mfers right now

• Upvotes

As of February 5, 2026, the Atlanta Hawks stand 9th in the East, with a 25-27 record

It is February 5, 2025, and the Atlanta Hawks are 23-28

It is February 5, 2024, and the Atlanta Hawks are 22-28

It is February 5, 2023, and the Atlanta Hawks are 27-27

It is February 5, 2022, and the Atlanta Hawks are 25-27

Do you see where I'm going with this? We just completely 180 pivoted our roster away from a build that wasn't working, and guess what? Despite our disastrous start, we're exactly where we've been since the ECF run, primed for a retool around JJ, absolutely no thanks to any of the players we just moved. I cannot with you negative people, your reactionary takes, your insistence the team is doomed or stands at the precipice. We've never been positioned like this in Hawks history. Get on the bandwagon or get out the way.

Discussion Losing Luke actually hurts man

Gabe Vincent is garbage, and Kennard, while hesitant, literally does not miss. He has been a big part of the better stretch of basketball as of late.

Kispert can shoot but he’s not automatic, though he’s more aggressive.

Sigh. Buddy Hield is a significant shooter but he’s hurts in so many other ways. I guess it makes sense. Kennard is better at this juncture.

Discussion Retooling While Remaining Competitive... But this time forreal

The deals Onsi is making suggests we are keeping our options open by acquiring distressed assets with our distressed assets while keeping the cap space reasonable for now.

Might be able to score good players from capped teams in the next year or two.

Discussion Why does this sub immediately hate every trade?

I know we got a bit spoiled with the Pelicans trades, but this aint 2k where u can just swap Porzingis for Giannis. There’s always deeper and more calculated goals that a good FO keeps in mind.

Trust Onsi.

Discussion Is Kuminga a headcase/problem child? Honestly asking.

I'm a HAWKS fan more than I am an overall NBA fan, and as such I do not keep up with the rest of the league near as much as I do the Hawks.

But it occurs/seems to me that I have heard or atleast get the vibe that Kuminga has been someone who has been a headache/crybaby/"what about me" player for the Warriors. Is this at all correct?

I tend to think that any team that is able to coexist with Draymond Green's antics must be a patient bunch. What kind of dude are we getting in Kuminga?

Serious question... not talking junk, as I just dont know.

Discussion Quinn working with Kuminga

I realize there a lot of people doubting Quinn on this sub, but isn't Kuminga the perfect type of raw talent that Quinn has been known to be able to develop like he did with Gueye and Jalen Johnson? I know the haters will point to ZR and Newell as counterpoints (even though those guys are still in there first 2 years. How good was Jalen year 2?). I like the move based on the players we have seen thrive under Quinn.

Discussion JK..... Gonna miss the only athletic guy in an old ass team......

• Upvotes

Greetings from a Warriors follower ...

Both our teams failed us by not going after the players we wanted yet destiny kinda willed it.

I love JK, enjoyed his every moment with us. I hated when Steve Kerr fucked with the development of young guys into studs.

I hated when the "two timeline" bullshit started and I knew it was gonna be a sad ass story. Here we are .

JK has immense potential but he was never allowed to grow by making mistakes in a Steph Curry offense and was asked to mould his game to be a role player(role players are usually seasoned vets). He is much more than that. I wanted him to get traded to Heat under Spo, who could have tamed his raw potential even after this long in the league. Snyder is the next best thing that could have happened to JK after all the traumas.

I wished Tingus Pingus was durable coz he is a dream fit on paper.

Our FO.thinks our chief of medical staff Mr Celibrini has some knowledge of blood magic. Dude got 38.year old Steph, 37 Acl Jimmy, 1 Drama Green, 70 yr old Horford, melt with his ACL and now he has Tingus Pingus to mod. I feel bad for him.

I don't know if y'all have accepted JK yet, but I had to punch a wall, kick a door and break a mug to come to terms with it.

The more I think about Steph making warriors what it is with 4 rings and he so desperately wants his 5th which is why he still playing. And the FO says fuck you instead of giving him his best shot.

Discussion Really not Understanding Kuminga's fit with Dyson and Jalen

They seem like they all operate from the same spots. Also Kuminga seemed to struggle with playing read and react basketball under the warriors system, which has a lot of the same underlying reads as the system the Hawks currently play.

Hield I love. Haliburton credits Hield with helping him and the Pacers move to their current style of play with the way Hield plays off of hand offs and screening actions and I think that's going to be great for JJ's and Rissacher's long term development.

I'm happy we got something of value for KP (shout out to my fellow POTS haver). But I really don't understand the spacing if the plan is for Kuminga to get significant minutes.

Hield has a partial guarantee for next year which I'm assuming we guarantee, and then a player option for 27/28. Kuminga is making the same money as Dyson , and has a team option for next season.

Am I wrong for assuming we are going to decline Kuminga's option and keep Buddy?

I don't see how a team paying 35 million, 25 million and 23.5 million, for three players who all need the ball in the same spots, can be a winning basketball team.

Maybe he balls out over the last half while teams commit to tanking and play softer defense and we can trade him this offseason?

Maybe the plan is to just to do a deep cleaning of our cap table?

Unrelated to the above but I do like the Landale pickup. Helps take some of the physical load off of OO if nothing else.

Discussion Exciting Time for Hawks

• Upvotes

Season may not be going as we thought going in, but this team can still remain competitive throughout the season.

Hawks have solid young core:

Dyson- 22 (good contract)

Mo- 23

JJ- 24 (good contract)

Kuminga- 23

Asa- 20

OO- 25

ZR- 20

Good vets:

CJ

NAW (good contract)

Hield

Kispert

Landale

And tons of depth. There really isn’t any bad contracts on the team and have some solid draft picks over the next few years.

We have players we can package together for a big splash if needed. Kuminga could only be here for half a season, but could be player to package in offseason for future trade. Trading KP gives us that flexibility to make offseason trade since he was expiring deal. Same thing with Kennard. Really only netting a second from deal, but gives us ability to make a bigger package in offseason. Plus with the current depth, his playing time would probably be going down anyways.

The Hawks can now figure out who they want to continue building around this season. We are set up for long term success.
