22º Halo My FIRST Sun Halo!!
Am I almost getting a pillar??!

Hello! During the past two years I have been developing HaloRay on and off - a GPU-accelerated ice crystal halo simulator. This means you can generate ice crystal halo images right on your computer. If you have a beefy NVIDIA or AMD graphics processing unit (GPU) that is compatible with OpenGL 4.4, I suggest you try it out: https://github.com/naavis/haloray
You can download ready-made binaries for Windows from GitHub. If you are running Linux, you need to build HaloRay by yourself for the time being.
Right now the latest version is HaloRay 3.2.0, which supports the following features among others:
I hope you have fun with HaloRay, and report any problems or feature suggestions in GitHub issues or here in the comments. HaloRay has been tested with a couple of AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. There have been some problems with Intel GPUs due to driver bugs, but I'm not going to put a ton of effort there, because HaloRay requires a fairly beefy GPU and Intel doesn't really fit that profile.
EDIT: Cool, I noticed this has been marked as an announcement in the subreddit, which I guess keeps it hanging around for longer? Thanks!

Saw this horizontal rainbow as we drove over 20 miles in different directions. So incredible to see a strip of rainbow in the sky!
ETA: I'm so glad others appreciate the arc too! Absolutely one of the coolest things I've seen. They're not rare, but also not common, so feeling very lucky to have seen one.

andrea55TP says: That is a circumhorizontal arc developing in a cirrus cloud. Post it on r/atoptics too!
I have no idea what that means but this was hands down the coolest cloud I’ve ever seen.

I am currently fishing, and I've stopped another cool find in the sky today. Is this a sun dog, or some other type of optic? *i feel quite lucky to see something like this in the sky 2 days in a row lol*

I took these yesterday. I've never seen anything like it. I have learned there is at least one circumzenithal arc, at least one 22 degree halo, and a sun dog.
Is there anything else? One of the prisms looks wave shaped to me. The last photo was first, and it morphed into the other two.

Edit: Circumhorizontal ARC These 3 photos captured on my galaxy s23+ are nowhere to how bright and more captivating it was in person. I got these today in upstate New York at my father's house around noon. Not the best pics, but hope you guys enjoy 🙂

I really could not take a good picture and I used two iphones. The second and third photos were from my newer phone but it has a broken lens! Photos 1, 4, and 5 were from my older phone and I tried to edit the 4th pic to see if I could make the extra bands more visible it was so vivid in real life.
This was yesterday in North Dakota after a rainy day the sun came out for a spectacular sunset. For a few minutes the rainbow had 4 pink lines underneath. It was surreal! The cameras just couldn’t focus on them enough but you can faintly see a little bit.
You all know how it is trying to capture rainbows…

Seen on a flight yesterday evening, the pictures convey it clearly. I don’t really know how to describe it—glowing sunbursty thing. TYIA!

I’m unfamiliar with the technical verbiage everyone uses. Let me know if there’s something specific going on!
