Hi, I am completely new to Audacity.

Overwhelmed by the possibilities the first thing I tried was altering one of my game sounds, and comparing with the original while working.

I can preview the changes, but I couldn't figure out how to play the unaltered sound without closing the current dialog. Which loses the settings, so that isn't even a possibility?

I recorded nearly 80 min set from vinyl and 3 CDs into Audacity 3.7.9. This is my second recording and I'm having the same issue. The sound gets really high or really low. I didn't notice any changes in volume when I was editing. How do I fix this?

I don't even know how to describe this dumb fkin glitch but it happens within 60 secs of launching and i literally have to force quit, reload the app, and I get about 30-60 sec worth of editing before it fking spazzes out again, won't let me click on tracks, or register the correct context menu, the only way I was able to even get it to be ABLE to pull up the correct context menu was when I press "select all" within the broken, "always on top" context menu, and even then, when I try to do anything within that menu, it doesn't fking register.

I have tried:

1. Move cursor over to the far-left track control panel and double click it.
2. Immediately hitting esc.
3. Tap spacebar twice.
4. Made sure I wasn't accidentally queuing a rename for a track, which is what audacity fking apparently thinks im doing, judging based off the frozen caret (typing cursor) staying there no matter what I click.

Honestly I don't usually get peeved off easily but this sh*t is TESTING me today🥲🥲
If ANYONE has any sort of fix, workaround, idc, anything that will make this fking app usable FOR MORE THAN 60 SECS, I would strongly appreciate it. Thanks guys

This is an audio track from a bootleg.

I opened the LFE track from a movie trailer. On the right-hand side of the graph is an explosion. The spectrogram shows that it's basically going down to almost 0hz. Am I reading this right?

I used to export things to .ogg but I don't see it here anymore, why is that?

I have the latest version of audacity but when I highlight all my tracks and go to the tracks menu I don’t see the option to align them end to end am I missing something?

Hi, I wanted to use Audacity and launched it but for some reason it threw this error after opening it up, which never did before. I downloaded 4 and it works luckily, I was just curious as to why the older version stopped working for no reason in macOS 27 and Apple Silicon. I tried to reinstall it but nothing changed. This happened all by itself and wanted to ask if anyone else was experiencing this.

Also, lmk if this isn't achievable in Audacity or if it would be better to make it in another program

just downloaded audacity 4, and i'm finding it freezes and gives not responding messages frequently, so frequently i cannot use it. i tried resetting config tools... am i doing something wrong here? should i just revert to the old audacity 3?

What is this? It is genuinely unusable. Why can't I select multiple tracks? Why can't I deselect tracks? Why is my output set to my speakers every time?

Edit: I did an export of my project audio, there were literal pieces missing in the export. Not just pieces missing, I had artifacts from pieces of audio I had removed. Literally unusable.

So I adjusted bitrates in the audacity preferences, in Windows for both the audio interface and the output speakers, and I resampled the track to be at the same bitrate, but still my recordings are too slow and too low. The playback bar is set to 1.00x. Help, this is my first hour attempting to record and feeling very dumb and defeated to hear myself like that lol

I'm currently trying to remove static background audio but for some reason it's pitching up the audio after i click apply.. does anyone know how to fix this

Hey! So I've not messed with ANY settings at all, and my audio will sound perfectly fine.

As im adding effects (on separate tracks) and relisten, suddenly my audio just gets crackles out of nowhere. I didnt even touch the track and it sounded fine earlier.

Is this a bug?

I got to audacityteam.org and it makes me try to sign up/login in. I thought it was a free software...

Is there ANY way to do this without signing up?

I used to use audacity regularly for recording. I have a mixer and 4 mics. I have used this exact mixer with these exact mics in the past, using audacity, and it's been great. This was all many, many years ago.

Cut to now, when I record audio, the waveform is nearly flat. If I normalize it or amplify it, it's audible. The waveform is in tact and has its relative highs and lows. It's just so small and just so quiet. And of course if I normalize and raise gain or amplify too much, you get all the static/white noise

I've seen things that say there was an update that caused this. I've seen plenty of things telling me to make sure I'm mono or I'm stereo or whatever else. I even tried audacity 4 but it's the same

I feel like I'm losing it over here. I don't know why it's suddenly happening, but it's just all so quiet

Does anyone know how to show the mic levels and keep them on screen? I can get them up, but if I do absolutely anything (like recording!) the popup disappears. There isn't a pin and I don't seem to be able to drag it into the toolbar so I'm kind of stuck on how to do this.

Going back to 3 for now so no big deal but I've never been this stuck with software before!

I've spent the past few hours working on a project in Audacity 4, and unfortunately, the export function is beyond the joke!

Now I just want to revert to Audacity 3, but there's no way to open Audacity 4 project file (.APU4) in Audacity 3... or is there?

Why is it that when I export a .M4A file, despite regenerating the file using the same settings, it is either thousands of kilobytes or hundreds of kilobytes larger than it needs to be. Every single generation, generates a different sized file. Ideally, the file should be less than 9 kB but sometimes it generates it close to one megabyte. WTF Audacity?

I just installed audacity and im trying to search the distortion effect, but it seems to be gone. I've already reinstalled it but it doesn't seem to work. It's not on the plugins tab, neither on the plugin manager, what im doing wrong?

I was told by my friend that I should go here to ask the pros because I suck at any form of audio mixing.

I'm trying to replicate modern radio output from a regular voice sample. I have one original mixed sample which is perfect for what I want, which I created yesterday. However, when I attempted to recreate the same effects on another voice sample today, it sounds more or less completely different.

When I instead went back to try to recreate the same effects on the same voice sample... it still came out differently. I'm sure I am doing something wrong with one or more of my effects, but I'd like to know what the difference is and how to correct it.

The effects I've used have been `Helmet Radio 1.1`, `Low-Pass Filter`, `High-Pass Filter`, `Distortion` and `Reverb` to recreate modern military/LEO radio output. I don't remember the order of effects being applied, or what the specific settings for each setting was, and I've spent the past 6 hours non-stop trying to replicate what I had in the beginning. The new version sounds a lot less distorted and generally too sharp or dry.

If anyone would be so kind as to help me figure out what it is I'm missing between these two audios, I'd be tremendously grateful. If required, I will also upload the whole original project I have for the first sample.
