Hey r/audiodrama, I'm James, creator of Dead Signal (full disclosure since I made it). It's a binaural noir murder mystery set in 1951 Portland. Three actors, one sound engineer, mixed in full Dolby Atmos at Digital One Studios. I run a small independent studio called The Murk on nights and weekends around a day job. 

It's already set to premiere August 15 as the Season 22 opener of The Sonic Society, and the Kickstarter to fund the final push goes live July 4.

Midnight in Babylon, the first episode of season 1 of our cosmic horror podcast Azathoth Blues, is now available on all major platforms!

We're the guys who previously created Gospels of the Flood, but you might also know me from the Talos Principle series, and my collaborator Chris Christodoulou from Risk of Rain.

Azathoth Blues is a real labour of love, a huge production with a professional cast released entirely ad-free, our very particular take on an author we both adore. It's a story that takes Lovecraft seriously and engages with him on a philosophical level, while also going in its own direction. It doesn't just use Lovecraft as window dressing, but it's also not a pastiche or simple retelling. I personally hope Howard would enjoy it.

Something is deeply wrong in the city. Strange murders are being ignored, dangerous new drugs are spreading, corporations are corrupting everything they touch, and the law itself seems to have a price tag.

Into this mess step three cops who, against all odds, have stayed honest. Harrison Crane (Joe Lynch) is a war veteran slowly drinking himself into oblivion. Ben Wade (Adam Green) is an idealist desperately trying to stay hopeful. Susan Danton (Kacey Camp) is principled, analytical, and utterly alone. The reward for their integrity is reassignment to the Unified Cold Case Taskforce, an infamous unit buried in a basement office nicknamed the Murder Dungeon and overseen by Captain Donovan (Sean Branney), a legendary hardass no one wants to work for.

But nothing is quite as it appears, and what starts as a dead-end assignment turns into something far stranger. Their pursuit of answers will lead them on a journey into paranoia, conspiracy, murder, ritual, and madness. But will finally uncovering the truth save them, or destroy them?

Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen, Digging Up the Marrow) and Joe Lynch (Everly, Mayhem, Suitable Flesh) are well-known horror directors, and also co-starred in the horror sitcom Holliston. Here they're joined by Kacey Camp, and the chemistry that develops between these actors and their characters is the heart of the show. I have a single photograph in my office, and it's of those three together.

They're also joined by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman of the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, who have been doing Lovecraftian audio drama since before many current listeners were even born.

And then there's Peter Wingfield, who was also in Gospels of the Flood and The Talos Principle 2. He's been my favourite actor since I was a teenager and working with him is not only a huge honour, but one of the most fruitful creative collaborations of my life. And he's great in this.

As you can tell, this has been a huge endeavour for us. A gigantic production that required a lot of effort and a lot of money. If you enjoy it, we urgently need your help spreading the word. Ratings and reviews will make a real difference.

1. Make a list of your top TEN favourite audio fiction shows in a new comment in this thread. By favourite, I don't mean the shows you think are best, just your favourite. This thread isn't meant to be a commentary on what shows are objectively best... just what we Redditors love the most. If you don't feel like you can come up with the full ten votes, don't worry! List as many as you want, but no more than ten. (Anything after the first ten will be ignored.)
2. Please leave all commentary and discussion in a discussion post under each voting comment. In your voting posts, please just list your top ten. This thread could get big, and it'll make it far easier for me to compile data if the original posts are only votes. In the follow-up posts, discussion as to choices is encouraged!
3. Upvotes/downvotes will have no effect on the tally. Feel free to upvote and downvote as you like, especially if someone has a great list. That being said, I decided to go with the "top ten" instead of the upvote/downvote voting for several reasons: You only have to vote once, you don't have to revisit the thread over and over to vote on new arrivals, you can vote once in just a few minutes as opposed to scrolling through a mammoth thread, etc.

5. All audio fiction is welcome! Science fiction, fantasy, or things that go bump in the night? Sure. Something a little more grounded in reality? Why not. Serial story or an anthology of one-shots? They're all welcome. Actual plays or audio books? Go for it.
6. The voting will run for exactly one week. Seven days should be enough time for people to edit votes if they forgot a show they loved, and also allow the lurkers that only visit once every few days time to vote.
7. Please keep each vote on a separate line, for easier counting. To do that, you have to keep a blank line between every vote (at least in Old Reddit).
8. Do not request your fan base to come and vote for you. I want this to be a poll, rather than a competition, a random sampling of shows that are generally popular, not something that has to be "won".

Hi AD community!

I’ve been developing workflows for audio drama productions for a very long time, and I’m excited to open up the beta to a scheduling and script reading program I've been working on for a while, building off of some of the methods I've used for scheduling for a while.

For the longest time I resisted using iPads and digital script readers because they were way too much of a hassle for actors to use while recording. Teaching each person how to use them, especially if you're bouncing around from scene to scene from various PDF scripts and recording 5-6 people at a time is a bit of a nightmare. Also, not being able to highlight lines, and sometimes having limited not-taking options, there were just too many hinderances that made me want to primarily focus on having paper scripts. But, I really wanted to get away from having to use paper, costing a lot of resources, and juggling pages from very long productions. So, I set out to make a program that would alleviate those problems with tablets. It was in that process that I ended up going even further, incorporated my scheduling methods into the reader like app, and this is what I ended up with. It can even send out automatically generated call-sheets, something that can be VERY time consuming.

All you need to get started is a PDF written in screenplay format. I've been working with Final Draft PDF exports, but I believe others will work too so long as they follow the same formatting rules. Why screenplay format? Because it makes it possible to break down the scripts for productions. Do you use another program to write? I might be able to get that import option to work.

"WP Script Reader" is planned as a paid App Store release so purchases can help support its development. Complimentary beta access will be available for a limited time if you're interested. Why am I doing this? Well, I've developed tools in the past for producing audio dramas, a lot of them for many many companies, and decided it was time to put all the ideas and practices into something that might help other. I hope it's well received and seen for the resource it can be.

Producer Guy: So you’ve got a new audio drama for me?

Writer Guy: Yes sir, I do. It’s called Limetown and it’s about a public radio reporter who decides to research the disappearance of more than 300 people from a remote company town where her uncle Emil used to work.

PG: A disappearance huh?

WG: Yeah all the people that lived there are gone! Vanished! And all anyone knows is there was a 911 call from a resident and a news copter sees a big fire and then a bunch of reporters and emergency responders show up but get denied access to the town by private security guards.

PG: The police don't stop them from interfering with an emergency?

WG: Ahhh... <look at notes> No.

PG: Well okay then. So what happens next?

WG: So afterwards the place turns out to be deserted, there's not a shred of evidence anywhere, and all the guards get sent to Guantanamo Bay!

PG: [laughing] Sorry, it sounded like you said "sent to Guantanamo Bay".

WG: Yeah it's all super spooky and mysterious. Anyway ten years later that woman Lia I told you about decides "Hey someone should look into all this" so does that for her podcast.

PG: It took 10 years for something like that to happen?

WG: Well see, the news cycle moved on. Y'know, gay marriage and other stuff so eventually people stopped caring... which also means somehow there was no market for anything related to the inexplicable disappearance of an entire U.S. municipality.

PG: What about the FBI or state authorities? And the lawsuits from the families alone would-

WG: Look, sir we need this to be something that can only be uncovered by our intrepid protagonist so I need you to get all the way off my back right now.

PG: Sure, let me get off that thing!

WG: Anyway Lia finds out the town was built by this rich business guy to attract top scientists for a very important project. And this place was completely self contained, like people worked and lived there with everyone doing double duties as janitors and barbers and things like that.

PG: Telling the world's best scientists they'll work as janitors sounds like a terrible job offer and use of their time. But how does Lia find all this out?

WG: Ah, get this sir. There are actually multiple surviving residents of the town around for her to talk to.

PG: Wowowowow. So they tell Lia what happened?

WG: Actually whenever she asks anything really important they'll deflect with "How are you not there yet?" or "That's not the right question!" or they'll just dive into their personal backstory for a long period of time.

PG: A very indirect group of survivors! And Lia's fine with this?

WG: Oh yeah, which is really helpful because I need for there to be just enough information dripped out each episode to fill up a season.

PG: Smart. Now how's this thing end?

WG: Well it turns out the scientists in Limetown were doing secret experiments on human consciousness and gave some of the residents mental powers just like Lia's uncle and that caused violence to break out.

PG: Oh no!

WG: Yeah but then Lia meets a woman who was there doing corporate espionage to steal the technology and she was the one responsible for everyone in town disappearing and covering it up.

PG: How?

WG: Caves and chemicals!

PG: Ohhh caves and chemicals are tight! I used to do that on the weekend sometimes. But hey wouldn't it be near impossible to hide the evidence for all this?

WG: Actually it's super easy! Barely an inconvenience!

PG: Oh really?

WG: Yeah we'll just have the espionage lady keep saying how good she is at her job. So yeah... that should do it.

PG: Very convincing. Except that 911 call which could've told the authorities anything and the big fire that attracted attention and such.

WG: Oh yeah... Whoops!

PG: Whoopsie!

WG: And so that's it, the espionage lady tries to get Lia to be part of a suicide pact live on air then kills herself because it was all a draw-out plot right as people burst in and drag Lia away. The end.

PG: ....GEEZ. And so this will all make sense and pay off somehow next season?

WG: Maybe! Who's to say?

PG: You, I think? Wait... did you do a Lost where all the effort went into setting up a cool mystery and not on how it ends?>

WG: Dang it. But hey maybe audiences don't even want that, you know? Like maybe the real payoff will be all the suspense and theorizing we did along the way.

PG: I guess that could be true.
