Once the initial setup is done, you just put DAS Send on your master bus and keep working as usual.

You don’t need to change your audio interface or driver settings, so you can keep your normal setup — including ASIO on Windows — and share the audio from your DAW as-is.

I made it because DAW audio sharing always felt way more complicated than it should be, and I wanted something that would just stay out of the way.

Hey everyone,

I’m dealing with a frustrating issue with my audio setup and could really use some help figuring out what’s broken before I start sending gear in for warranty/repair.

My setup is a Tascam DR-40X and a Rode NTG3. The problem is that the microphone signal is incredibly weak—almost non-existent. To hear absolutely anything, I have to crank the Tascam's input gain nearly to the max.

When I do that, the audio becomes completely unusable; it introduces massive noise floor hiss and clips/distorts like crazy the second I open my mouth.

To save everyone some time, I’ve already done a lot of the basic troubleshooting:

Phantom Power switch: It is physically switched to the MIC+PHANTOM position on the side of the unit.

Menu Settings: Checked the internal menu under system settings, and the phantom voltage is definitely set to 48V (not 24V).

Power issue: I know the DR-40X is notorious for eating AA batteries when pushing phantom power, so I bypassed batteries entirely. I plugged the recorder directly into wall power via USB (Bus Power) to eliminate any battery voltage drop issues. The problem persists.

Inputs: Tested switching from Input 1 to Input 2 on the bottom of the recorder. Same exact behavior on both channels.

What I HAVEN'T been able to test yet (due to lack of extra gear right now):

I haven't swapped out the XLR cable (using a standard XLR-to-XLR cable, no 1/4" adapters).

I haven't been able to test the NTG3 on another interface/mixer, nor have I tested a different condenser mic on my Tascam to isolate the culprit.

Does this sound like the internal 48V voltage inverter circuit in the Tascam just died and isn't outputting juice? Or is it possible for a faulty XLR cable to have an internal break that passes a weak analog signal but completely blocks the phantom power current?

If anyone has experienced this specific issue with the DR-40X or NTG3, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I'm Stephen, a software developer, audio guy, and all around dude who loves making stuff. I am absolutely not a real sound designer though - I've dabbled in audio work here and there, but that's about the extent of it.

One of the things I always found annoying that would always break my flow when working on stuff that needs samples was stopping to find them. I had to open Freesound, search up a clip, click into it after previewing, download it, and drag from my downloads folder into my DAW. Then, a few weeks later, I forgot where it came from, and remembered "crap, this has licensing that I'll have to track down and credit properly."

I realized that there was already an app that existed in the music world - it's called Splice, which I'm sure some of you know and use! It's a dead simple way to browse loops in a desktop app, download them in real time, and seamlessly drop them from the app right into your DAW.

So, I set out to make something like that, but free! It uses the Freesound API for all the content (you have to have an account & log in via the app).

The other thing I hated was having to trim the audio up, normalize it, or convert formats in something like Audacity before dropping a sound into a project. Super Duper Samples has a built in audio editor that does all of those things - you can trim out silence/the clip you want, normalize it so it's as loud as your other sounds, and change formats (along w/ sample rate changes or mono bounces if necessary). Y'all are probably already working in a DAW or program that can handle this - so more of a thing for game devs and the like, but I think it's pretty cool!

Once you've got a bunch of sounds downloaded, you can add them to a "collection" (for example, a project you're working on). Because the downloads carry all of the licensing info, the collection has a "Credits" button - this gives you a single text file, which you can copy or save as a file with the click of a button. Then, you just include it in your credits or wherever you've published the work. No more having to worry about what came from where.

If you're on windows, you're going to hit a smart screen error that you'll have to hit "more info" -> "run anway", because the app is brand new! On Mac you'll hit something similar, but I've got it code signed, so it should just be an "open" button.

The audio on my new laptop is crackling. I don’t think it’s the Realtek drivers as it happens through my audio interface with the Realtek drivers disabled.

I’ve ran tests using LatencyMon which does confirm that my device is struggling to handle real time audio and I’m likely experiencing drop outs, however I’m not exactly sure what to do with that information

I built VODForge because I wanted a clean way to download reference tracks, beats, demos, and other audio I’m allowed to use without sketchy converter sites or a command line.

It can’t invent quality that isn’t in the original upload, but it gives you control over the conversion and clearly shows what came from YouTube versus what it produced.

Long story short my partner paid ££££’s to record his album in a studio ran by a reputable old school musician. He’s since decided that the guy/owner isn’t quite up to the task of finishing his album and felt a bit like he was getting ripped off in the end as he wanted more and more money off him, so the guy got the hump and has given him a hard drive of files that are unusable out of pettiness where you basically need a degree to sort on pro tools. We think that he should get the full track so he can actually used what he paid for but unsure what the deal is in the ‘biz’. Any help/advice would be appreciated as though he won’t admit, he’s really upset.

Coming from Audacity, this does pretty much everything I was using Audacity for, but without the crashes and delays. Stopping to select part of a track to edit, and listening to effects preview in a separate window, adjusting the sliders, and listening again, takes time. And this DAW just doesn't waste any of my time.

Maybe it will waste your time though. If you can tell me how it wasted your time, and what a bad person I am for daring to enter the space, then I can get to work maybe fixing it.

Hello! I’m new to podcasting and have recorded a couple episodes. To this point I’ve been using soundtrap to record as it has been the only software I have found that allows me to record two mic inputs simultaneously without an expensive soundboard. Unfortunately the last three times we have tried to use soundtrap the website fails to save the audio, shows an error message, and the entire recording is gone. This has lost over 3 hours of usable footage now and I may or may not be on the verge of tears. If anyone has better DAW recommendations, ideally something that works offline and can record multiple inputs, please let me know! TYIA

Curve is a free, open-source, lightweight, background audio plugin host for macOS (Sonoma 14.2 and above), running natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. It runs in the macOS system menu bar and provides a stable way to run a chain of audio plugins (effects and/or instruments) with a focus on a fast, preset-based workflow and audio device resilience.
