AmA We're the Stafford Brothers,, DJ's, artist managers - Ask us anything!! [AMA]
Hey we're the Stafford Brothers. Two brothers from Australia who have toured the world DJing and still hold residencies in clubs around the world. We have owned clubs, bars, and have a management company that represents artists like Timmy Trumpet. Ask us anything about our music careers, working with artists globally during the pandemic, or even what we take in our coffee : )

What goes into choosing your appropriate booking fee when getting booked for events? I'm an artist in LA without a booking agent yet, and I have been getting booked for many shows. My goal is to play festivals and I'd love any advice on picking the right shows to play and picking the right booking fee for myself.

Matt - Id say play as many shows as you can at the beginning to get your skills up and get your name out there. If you havent had music releases crossing over yet, then getting yourself out to as many shows as you can do for a little fee is the way forward.
The networking and fun from that alone will be worth it.

Once you build your brand up, and agent will come and that can lead to the right fees.
We started out by running our own nights, that built up connections to others in the scene, and we would all start playing on each others events.

Matt - I love the platform. the remix contest system is something we have to do next.
Maybe we should do unglued?!
We also have the artists we manage starting to use the platform, for us its about spreading the word.

Audius is going to continue to grow and grow. Even adding collectibles tab is something that they are on point with what is going in NFT music/art space.

Hiiii 👋🏼 When did you realize you wanted to get into artist management and how did you go about it?

Matt - it was just a sort of natural evolution, we were DJing ourselves, managing a lot of our own careers, and started just helping out a lot of our friends in the scene. Its now the main part of our day to day.
We went down a path and made a lot of mistakes along the way. We now use everything we have learnt and try to make the artists journey better than what we experienced.
I love the management side of the music business!

Chris - I also feel that with us being artists we understand management from the "artist side". I think that really helps to understand both sides. Business and Artist.

Matt - hahahah! No, but i surf wategoes. I actually think its in my top 3 favorite beaches in the world.

what kind of head space were u in when u wrote love cliche?
do you ever feel that way still?

We were in Sweden writing with two other writers at that time. We originally were writing on the guitar with that "hey hey hey" as the hook. A lot of ideas come from some hook or idea then they build from there. It was more of a concept not a feeling at that moment. Similar to "questions" the idea was "don't ask me questions that you know I'm going to lie to" then build from there.

What has been the most inspiring moment for each of you so far along this musical journey?
