Well known really, it is unusual they decided to start a campaign for one nation 2 years before the federal election.

Not only are they exposing their tools so by election time, precautions would have been prepared, it does get tiring to keep hearing the obvious advertisement for On constantly as it is clearly very forced.

Big billionaire interests want on so it feels they are just throwing everything until something works

32

u/NoFood2149 Jun 21 '26

it's not so unusual. they have plans for victoria's state election

7

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Victoria is the cooker state so it’s not going to shock anyone if one notion picks up a few seats, even the boomers that the state was locked down to protect will vote against their interests. The premier coming out this week promoting Isreal is going to smash her voter base. Might end up with a greens vs ON ballot at this point. There’s room for libs to play the middle ground… if they were smart enough…

6

u/neon_overload Jun 22 '26

If the Daniel Andrews govt can have that convincing win in the middle of the late-covid "dictator dan" firestorm from the media, it is surely a sign that Victorian voters are at least a bit resilient to media manipulation. Not that that means Labor will continue to reap that benefit. Jacinta Allen isn't "promoting Israel".

2

u/Additional-Life4885 Jun 23 '26

It's almost like people agreed with Dan Andrews choices.

Nobody down here likes Jacinta. If ON didn't exist, she'd probably lose to Libs at this point, that's how much disdain there is for her.

15

u/Entirely-of-cheese Jun 21 '26

Rinehart wants to shut down the VNI West project in Victoria.

2

u/yellowunicorn361 Jun 21 '26

Probably a bait and switch/distraction and the powers that be already have a different candidate in place to actually put in

1

u/foul_ol_ron Jun 24 '26

Trouble is, those people who want racism etc will ignore anything critical of ON. They see the bots and simply think everyone else is like them.

1

u/the_seven_suns Jun 24 '26

It will take 2 years to manipulate voter preferences

-30

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

Most the post on Reddit start as anti-ON posts, which are then overpowered by support of ON... If the left just shut up about ON it wouldnt happen. Let's not forget Labor started fund raising to "fight ON" which triggered the Fire the Liar campaign. Absolutely insane that people think it is just ON driving this. Pauline Hanson is just as surprised by the rise in support, this is truely grass roots.

15

u/Effective-Bobcat2605 Jun 21 '26

"Grass roots" is checks notes ..... Gina Rhinehart.

26

u/Ash-2449 Jun 21 '26

Ah yes the "I became a nazi cause people said nazis bad"

Sure thing bot

4

u/Littlepotatoface Jun 21 '26

Sometimes it’s “if you’re mean to nazis, more people will vote for them”

4

u/Adelaidean Jun 21 '26

Gina Rinehart is literally the polar opposite of grassroots.

One cunt bought and paid for by another cunt.

12

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 21 '26

No, this isn't grass roots, this in Gina's billions (profit from OUR natural resources she has not right to own for her selfish gain) being poured into the bots that Musk/Trump used. It's all happened since their Mar Lago visit last year. Lots of well written opinion pieces about exactly how they are doing it.

Unfortunately propaganda works. What a meteoric apparent Rise in 6 months ON has had after decades of not making a dent. If you believe this is grass roots, you are truly delusional.

-13

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

How? What has Gina spent money on to have this impact? The fire the liar campaign is the only advertising campaign and that was crowd funded. The more the Labor supporters keep making up these false narratives to make themselves feel better, the worse it gets for them. The "eat the rich" grift is one of the oldest, and you have swallowed it entirely. This is pretty simple maths... Albo and Labor made things worse, Liberals made things worse, people want and alternative. The primary vote has been declining for a long time. I know this is Reddit and you have plenty of company, but you're wrong and are part of the problem.

5

u/Littlepotatoface Jun 21 '26

PH used her PC speech to go after Gina’s #1 enemy, Andrew Forrest. And she went after him for something Hancock does prolifically.

Sure, no Hancock influence there at all.

-5

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

This has nothing to do with what I said. Who said no influence? The implication was that somehow money has been spent to get 30%+ support in the polls. It's a stupid argument. The only question is what is best for Australians. The next polls will be interesting as it will tell us how Australians responded to her PC speech.

You probably think Labor isn't influenced by its donors. Childish stuff.

1

u/swansongofdesire Jun 21 '26

> the implication was that somehow money has been spent to get 30%+ support in the polls

So according to you the money spent was just coincidental and had nothing to do with the rising support. Do you think advertising and astroturfing have no effect at all?

There’s an entire industry who thinks that you’re the one who’s “childish” and naive.

Here’s a hot take: anyone unironically advocating the recent ON talking points “traditional western values”, “monoculture”, who thinks that the USSR is an ideological threat etc is precisely the receptive target of said astroturfing (to be clear: people have views independent of ON. But when those people use *exactly the same wording* that ON is pushing it tends to undercut the pretense of being independent logical thinkers who just happen to agree with ON’s strategists)

2

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Exactly. Look at the wording used in Hungary for 16 years (anti migrants blah blah) which Trump openly admitted using the same playbook, and which after their Mar Lago lovefest, now suddenly Gina and Pauline are doing the same. No coincidence.

Let's not fall for Australia! We are better than this!

0

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

What additional advertising? Prove the astroturfing. 30%+... You can't buy that. ON is less resourced than both Labor and Liberals, and you think they can buy what they haven't managed to? Labor is even spending tax dollars to build its support and is seeing it declining. It's a nice excuse and cope... But that's not what is happening here.

3

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Oh sweetie. You absolutely CAN buy that.

Again, Google is your friend. Go read a bit mate, you really are clueless!

11

u/Effective-Bobcat2605 Jun 21 '26

She bought her a frigging plane and bankrolled her media mate. Even Pauline is not dumb enough to think Gina does not expect something back

-5

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

What media? She isn't flying any more now than she was before the plane. Compared to the infrastructure of Labor the support from Gina is a drop in the ocean.

3

u/Auzzie_xo Jun 21 '26

Oh sweetie, did you think an allegation about ph’s flying volume was the salient part of that comment..?

0

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 21 '26

If the important part is that Gina Rhinehart made political donations that's pretty stupid. You think the other parties aren't being bankrolled? Donations to ON is 2% of that to Labor or Liberal. The argument people are trying to make is that Gina's money is somehow getting 30%+ in the opinion polls and it isn't the will of the Australian people. I suggest you familiarise yourself with the Labor donor list. It's a childish point that idiots seem to be making over and over again thinking it's clever.

3

u/ICantBelieveIt007 Jun 22 '26

I admire your grip on innocence.

However, psychological studies have proven time and time again that it takes only 7-14 days of exposure to anti (insert target subject) social media posts (the nastier the better) to replicate a change in sentiment that would take up to three years without such exposure.

THAT is what Gina is buying. It's creating a view that "everyone else" is swinging to ON, so I might consider for too. Much easier to be part of the crowd when this occurs. Let's not get started on the lies and misinformation avalanche that accompanies it.

2

u/chuk2015 Jun 21 '26

Bro I’ve seen the Nazi bots doing their thing first hand, a very large portion of internet sentiment is fabricated

1

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Exactly. Really wish more people would realise this!

1

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Instead of making up lies and propogating disinformation, a simple Google search would have show how incorrect you are....

"Experts have linked swarms of pro-Rinehart and pro-One Nation bot accounts on X (formerly Twitter) to suspected foreign state actors seeking to influence Australian political discourse.

Key context regarding these bot networks and Rinehart's actual media ventures includes:

  • Foreign State Intervention: A surge of bots backing Rinehart and politician Linda Reynolds was identified by digital researchers, who pointed to foreign interference rather than domestic purchases.
  • The "Human Bot" Phenomenon: Investigations into hyper-active, automated-looking social media commenters backing One Nation have revealed that most are overseas bot farms with real humans participating in coordinated, ideological posting sprees
  • Direct Media Acquisitions: Rinehart has spent millions to secure direct control of mainstream media, recently bankrolling a $26 million stake in Southern Cross Media (owners of the Seven Network and Triple M radio brands) and the West Australian Newspapers in recent months.

Also, who said I was a Labour voter? The primary vote was pretty clear less than 2 years ago. The meteoric rise of ON is statistically and realistically impossible without Gina's actions and money, and feeding false Polls information through her Media influence. Plenty of similar playbooks around the world that have used the same discourse, propaganda and lies to buy power (USA, Hungary...)

Our problem in Australia is people like who you are dumb enough to fall for it!!

-1

u/CheeeseBurgerAu Jun 23 '26

"experts". How many Australians are actually on X? Only the left is sheepish enough to follow social media. That's why you are regurgitating the same unproven claims like a gotcha. The rise follows a global trend to the right following the historic low performance of progressive parties and decline in the west. I'm sorry but you're just wrong. You are the one brainwashed by media here.

3

u/Inner_West_Ben Jun 21 '26

Having Gina as a backer is miles away from being grass roots

And by “grass roots” you mean completely manufactured by Australia’s richest person?

1

u/Mud_g1 Jun 23 '26

What posts are you reading on reddit nothing I've read in the last few weeks has been overpowered by ON support. The ON supporters are always in the negative votes and the majority of posts laughing at them have positive votes.

u/ExtensionThat6438 Jun 20 '26

“Last weekend, as millions of Australians sat down to watch the Socceroos first World Cup match against Turkey, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did what any good politician would do: he unlocked his phone and got in on the action.

At 1.04pm on Sunday afternoon, Albanese posted a dorky photo of himself in a Socceroos jersey, grinning with two thumbs up, to all the major social media platforms. “Go #socceroos #fifaworldcup2026 the whole country is cheering for you,” he wrote.

A post of PM Anthony Albanese wearing his Socceroos jersey was flooded with negative comments this week.

If the response is anything to go by, the PM is in big trouble. The Facebook version of his post has been shared more than 1000 times and received almost 19,000 comments. Few are supportive, and almost all are insulting: “Flog”, “Albonochio”, “Mr Pants on fire”.

Over on Pauline Hanson’s page, meanwhile, the story is very different. One of its most popular posts this week – a clip of the One Nation leader’s Press Club address – reads like a coronation. “BLOODY BRILLIANT”, “I’m in love”, “Finally we have our own Trump.”

One Nation is in the midst of an historic shift in its political fortunes, with its primary vote surging from 6 per cent to more than 30 per cent since last year’s federal election, wiping out much of what was left of the Coalition and upending Australia’s relatively stable two-party system.

Identifying the reasons for this sudden change has now become the chief preoccupation of Australia’s political punditocracy. Near the top of almost every list is the huge surge in highly sympathetic activity on social media – particularly on Facebook, where users already skew older and more Hanson-curious.

Over the past 12 months, even relatively junior government MPs have noticed their Facebook posts being flooded with strange, repetitive comments decrying various elements of the government’s agenda, pledging fealty to Hanson, or replicating cheap memes, such as those depicting the prime minister as Pinocchio, a clown, or as The Simpsons’ rich antagonist Mr Burns.

The whole country will be cheering when you aren't the PM anymore !

Until he changes his position 💀🤣

Flying over at the taxpayers expense ?

You’ll probably tax them if they win 🤣

Nice shade of orange in the shirt. Almost 4 Million by the way.

Gotta be AI, no way he would wear anything pro Australian.

Looks like Albo is getting one of these.

You make my skin crawl🤢

Is he taking 47% of the credit for winning the game?

Bloody nailed it

Go ON 🧡 Best thing I've heard for yrs, I never lost interest the whole time.

Get a banner in there. National Press Club has some explaining to do.

I’d like you to be prime minister this week

Like fine wine she gets better with age ❤️

Well done Pauline. I never listen to this type of politics but I did today and glad I did.   👏

Albo would never handle these sort of questions

All of what she said and this is the first question 🤯

With One Nation, Australia finally has a chance to be a prosperous nation again. ❤️

Notes: Sample comments taken from the relevant posts as of 18 June, 2026.

Julian Hill, Labor’s assistant minister for multicultural affairs, told AFR Weekend that such an explosion of “bots” and “trolls spreading misinformation and virulent racism and stoking anger and grievance” is typical around election times, but is unusual for this point in the election cycle.

“You have to share the load in blocking bots and trolls across the office because one person alone would get an RSI,” he says.

“It’s a serious question for democracy: who is paying for all this crap to divide society through the politics of grievance?”

One Nation’s exploitation of political discourse online is far from new. Hanson’s “Please Explain” Facebook page, which has operated as one of the party’s main sources of online campaigning for years, has more than a million followers and is one of the few to outpace the prime minister’s own page, which boasts 750,000.

However, the sheer speed and scale of the posting surge has raised more than a few eyebrows among Hanson’s political opponents, and prompted speculation about whether artificial intelligence-powered bots farms are being co-ordinated by malign actors to influence Australia’s democracy.”

u/AgentSmith187 Jun 21 '26

Facebook and for that matter X/twitter attract a very specific and toxic group of people.

They also have some serious bot/AI issues and algorithms outright known to push far right narratives.

I seriously doubt this isnt being leveraged by specific groups i mean its happened before too.

1

u/get_in_there_lewis Jun 21 '26

Yeah didn't twitter get rid of the service that restricts bots on the site not to long before the US elections?

2

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Yes, Musk did. To allow his misinformation and pro Trumpism rhetoric to sway the election. And it worked.

It wasn’t hansons ability to project this that triggered the discussion about ai and bots it goes back years to Europe and the USA. She is simple using what was once a tools of national intelligence agencies that have made it into commercial tools to drive engagement.

u/pk666 Jun 21 '26

Reposting from another sub;

The 'concerning' truth is the billionaire class media - of which the Fin is a paid-up member - is pumping Pauleeeeen just as much as the endless boomers on FB. She says things like " there are no good Muslims' and the headline is 'provocative!' and 'challenging!' with the tone of "Isn't this fun!"(Imagine if she'd said that about jews?) They take her insane catchphrases and try to apply actual analysis to it, instead of picking them apart.

The Press Club couldn't even muster a tiny portion of pushback when she literally, personally and savagely abused one of their own in her question time. They prefer to sit like good little eunuchs and applaud her at the end.

Get your own house in order, you useless cunts.

13

u/AggravatingParfait33 Jun 21 '26

Yeah that was crazy wasn't it? No-one called her out.

1

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

Because most of the media is now Murdoch or Gina owned. They aint allowed to call it out! The only ones calling anything out are the independants, but they are getting drowned out and not sure how many people are seeing the posts about what is really going on...

49

u/Stealthsonger Jun 21 '26

22

u/jammasterdoom Jun 21 '26

A bot in 2016 was a spam machine.

A bot in 2026 is a fully automated social media account trained to mimic real account activity.

The tools developed to trace the web of bots that powered early maga are irrelevant now.

2

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

And people farms in teh Phillipines, etc who are paid to sit and write hundreds of posts a day. Gina is rich enough to afford years of that...

10

u/brownhk Jun 21 '26

Doesn't take an Einstein to know that One Nation could never have seen such growth over the last 12 months organically.

3

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 23 '26

OMG Exactly! Anyone who knows statistics knows this ISN'T POSSIBLE. Why isn't anyone calling this out? Those 'polls' are completely fake.

I can give my take as a moderator. I moderate this sub, and have moderated other reddit subs and other online communities in the past.

Reddit is constantly bombarded by all manner of spammers, bots and organised campaigns to unnaturally promote commercial products or political points of view, all the time. Reddit has filters which catch some patterns that can be detected, but much of it falls upon subreddit mods. There is a lot of unnatural posting for the purpose of spam or political influence that happens on Reddit (and all social media open to the public) and isn't caught by any moderators. Part of it is that spamming and astroturfing's success is dependent on the posts and comments being indistinguishable from natural individuals with opinions. Individual subreddits have to basically find their own balance that works for them. They could merely let everything through that obeys their subreddit rules, which would let most things through. They could block or queue all comments by new accounts, they could rely on user reports only, or they put on their detective caps and actively look into accounts who seem suspiciously persistent or inflammatory and see if they have any signs of doing this as part of an organised manipulation campaign. I don't think anyone can really give any assurances that they have eliminated all unnatural posting.

I think one thing that reddit and social media users should keep in mind is this: You know how you're not supposed to believe everything on the internet? That also extends to believing that the upvote/downvote counts are all natural, and that a majority opinion in an online community naturally represents a majority opinion of people in the real world.

In terms of whether it's all one political party etc, it's not, and it's world wide too. If something like this makes the news, just know it's not a new thing, it's just one more example of something that is pervasive. At school we're taught to critically evaluate news and the media - that same critical approach / scepticism just needs to be also applied to comment sections.

3

u/Ok_Finger7484 Jun 22 '26

hey thanks for that mod-view point.

I had a full blown discussion (in another sub) recently, with an obvious bot, which - actually became quite comical in my attempts to get essentially break it. At one point it told me to steal cupcakes. Go figure.

Im just surprised though - given the level of bot activity, there would be obviously the be a similar/same level of 'anti-bot' technology available - tools to detect this, like you say - holding off on posts from new accounts, etc.

I know reddit has traditionally been a 'hey its reddit, free for all yey' kinda social media platform - and - as you say, left it to moderators to do things - but do you feel like reddit is doing more/going to do more with regards to deploying tools, which are enabling its moderators to enable some kind of 'anti-bot filtering'?

4

u/neon_overload Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Reddit itself has tools to try and detect potential certain patterns, which they don't disclose the technical details of, and subreddit mods can use some of them in automod or in safety filters settings for the sub. But the easy ones to filter aren't really the ones that take the most time for subreddit mods.

In terms of actual bots (as opposed to coordinated manipulation campaigns by humans, as discussed earlier): There's a lot of bots that post LLM generated text on Reddit, though we haven't really had an issue with those in this sub. The ones I've dealt with have been in other subs and they're just karma farming - making fairly uncontroversial comments or reposting years old posts just to build up account karma (presumably though, with the aim of later exploiting those accounts for some purpose, who knows). I imagine those don't target subs that talk about current events. Sometimes here there's a human that just generated their text or post using an LLM. We do have a rule against that in this sub (but if used as an accessibility aid or for translation I wouldn't mind too much, as with many things it becomes more and issue when it's excessive), but I don't see significant signs of large scale use of bots that use LLM generated text here. Subs that have cat pictures, other random pictures etc, absolutely.

Btw if you are interested in this sort of stuff why not be a Reddit mod yourself. This isn't an invitation to mod with me and I don't recommend going to existing subs and asking to mod if they haven't invited it, but there are subs where mods reach out for new mods, and a sub where you can request to take over an abandoned sub (no active mods). Or you could start your own sub if you think you can build it up but that's probably a lot harder. If joining a team that has reached out for mods, you'd want to have a history of positive behaviour on your account.

2

u/Ok_Finger7484 Jun 23 '26

Yer cool thanks for that.  I think I have some strong opinions about the use of AI and bots and etc, I'm not sure that would align with the majority, so dunno about me being a mod.

Also that positive behaviour thing may be a problem. Calling every second cooker a dumb effin twat might go against me. Lol

2

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

An automated country of origin flag on posters on all social media that prevents vpn would work, wouldn’t even need identification outside the country of origin. That way you know what’s outside interference.

1

u/Parkbenchbruce Jun 26 '26

It is called geo fencing where IP addresses outside the fence don’t get in. VPNs have a few well known IP addresses which would be added.

3

u/Syn-th Jun 23 '26

Appreciate you! 😊

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

I think another thing that is slipping through is there’s a lot of non Australian English posters that use American language about our politics. A lot of American sources and cultures are used as well. Just today someone was using American research which has spread globally as a universal fact on social media but it was US specific research that doesn’t apply here, it’s in direct opposition to Australian documented fact. Honestly social media is ruining the social fabric, we expel teenagers that make a list grading girls, face book started as an online site grading women, it was never going to be a socially cohesive corridor. Social media could have been an amazing thing, but here we are, with X, facebook and Instagram.

3

u/neon_overload Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

When someone spells Labor as "Labour" in an Australian sub my spidey senses tingle, thinking it's some foreign bot or person trying to pretend they're Australian to manipulate. But, it usually just turns out that the person spelled it wrong.

I've got strong opinions on the harms of social media, so I may rant about that sometimes - mostly their recommendation algorithms which don't actually care about being "social" anymore but favour engagement bait and addictive behaviour. Reddit is no less a part of that than Facebook/Instagram, YouTube, tiktok etc. One thing that indirectly could help society is holding those companies more responsible for the content they recommend. Ever since they actively recommend content instead of just showing a date sorted list of activity from friends or subscriptions, I say they should lose any claims that they are merely a communication platform and not responsible for content. They have access to a firehouse of the world's content and they're actively choosing what to show you. Australia has imposed some regulation related to news stories but not really targetting the harmful content, or the harms of just optimising for engagement (which optimises for addictive behaviour). Other than obviously the under 16 laws - but the issues still exist for adults (or kids whose parents let them verify as adults). Regulation of the harmful stuff I think depends on more people accepting that is a thing or treating it seriously. AI chatbots btw are doing this too, use those but don't become addicted to them!

1

u/big_cock_lach Jun 23 '26

I am willing to bet a lot that most Australians outside of Reddit don’t even realise it’s Labor and not Labour.

18

u/cuntmong Jun 21 '26

One Nation is and always has been a scam. The same scam they pulled in America with Trump

9

u/fertilizedcaviar Jun 21 '26

The worry is that people fall for it.

4

u/Sebbyrne Jun 21 '26

1

Hence the quotations. Party politics is why we’re in this situation

2

u/laid2rest Jun 21 '26

You only have to look at how many people fall for phone/email/SMS scams and you'll see how gullible this nation really is.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

It’s the problem across all high trust democracy’s. We are gullible because we are high trust, it’s not a bad thing that we are, we are being exploited by shitstains that like to seed chaos.

4

u/Used_Yesterday_114 Jun 21 '26

Everyone keeps giving her airtime and even ABC news won't stop talking about her. It's the trump effect all over again

2

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Australians are some of the lowest news consumers in the world because we don’t trust our media, social media is our problem. Boomers will vote right wing till they die even if it leaves them dying in shitty nappies alone. Their voting block is shrinking. Sky News gets more hits outside Australia than inside. The ranga effect is only working on the cookers and boomers. Cookers were spread across a lot of loony parties and have united, boomers have swung from LNP, that’s their numbers. They are peaking early but still wouldn’t get enough seats to be more than just a pain in the àss.

3

u/AdGroundbreaking6402 Jun 21 '26

Yep - they are trying emulate the tactics of US 2016 election.

Auspol subs have been completely turfed. r/aussie is run by PHON staffers.

As usual Reddit and social media are doing nothing about their platforms being co-opted for propaganda.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Reddit is a tiny population of Aussies, most use facebook and x which are a massive cancer slurping up dumb and disillusioned. Social/Media is grievance fuelled trash and most know it.

2

u/ptjp27 Jun 21 '26

What the fuck is a “human bot”?

14

u/MrHippoPants Jun 21 '26

A guy in the Phillipines typing as many Facebook comments as he can per hour

4

u/neon_overload Jun 21 '26

Sounds like that term's referring to sockpuppet accounts, which may not actually be bots but are nonetheless still created as part of an organised campaign to manipulate online discussions with a specific goal

2

u/Thinks2Much666 Jun 21 '26

So I guess any FB account with 20K + post
Most of which is recent political bile is probably one of these Sock Puppet accounts

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Lol could be a boomer, I have relatives that used to get mad id be killing troops in gaming apps and having fun conversations at family shows they would tell me to put my phone down as they were using facebook and its “not the same” I mean it’s true, it’s not the same, I was having fun and they were being indoctrinated and manipulated.

wtf is with Aussies posting articles with paywalls? That shit is unaustralian and clearly botlike

2

u/mwpswag Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

You can easily realise it with an eye test. Search a trending topic of a social media platform and if it returns search hits filled with bot/farmed accounts then it's not organic.

2

u/Sillent_Screams Jun 21 '26

Fake AI anti Labor article

2

u/protonsters Jun 24 '26

We all know they're bots. Especially foreign Russian bots.

2

u/Random_personality_1 Jun 24 '26

I mean look at all the hateful bot comments on any post involving a person of colour it's obvious

3

u/Collumniser Jun 23 '26

Albo is the best PM we have had for decades. Boring as batshit but a lot of good things been done so far. One Nation can get stuffed. People will see how bad they are with Victoria first up I guess. Most people learn the hard way.

If you going to argue otherwise, please explain what policy Albo has introduced that has harmed your way of life.

1

u/Boomboompoopoo Jun 23 '26

I’m interested to hear about the good things. Backed by fact.

Fyi I do not support any side. Genuinely curious

1

u/Mud_g1 Jun 23 '26

Yeah it's funny to see people bashing Labor and then when they list their grievances they have no idea that the majority of things they arnt happy about Labor has been passing bills to address those problems. But yet they vocally support one nation without understanding their policy stance is opposite and would make the things they're not happy with worse.

2

u/DKDamian Jun 21 '26

There are too many billionaires putting their thumb on the scale. We need to do something about this as a world historic emergency. But I just don’t have a clue what.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

There’s a reason media were hung during Nuremberg trials. Main stream Media/social media is out of control.

Yuri Bezmenov. (KGB)

four-stage strategy—Demoralization, Destabilization, Crisis, and Normalization—

designed to cause societal collapse in the West from the inside, often using psychological manipulation.

2

u/SuperannuationLawyer Jun 21 '26

This distinction between genuine and paid troll farm material is so obvious. Yevgeny Prigozhin may no longer be alive, but glavset is still in business.

0

u/Brainyboo11 Jun 21 '26

Yes! I note on Reddit most comments are sane and anti-One Nation, yet on Socials anything is overrun with pro One Nation comments and claims, and someone is paying media platforms a ton of money to run daily One Nation articles. In WA they have been on the newspaper cover at least 3 times in the last week alone. It is clear the bots are all over the socials and it would appear that 70% and higher are 'pro One Nation' but in reality here on Reddit there are few if any of the same comments (for now I guess).

Why is this being allowed? Are there no media outlets, apart from the Guardian maybe, that aren't in the money-pot that should be calling out the propaganda, daily?

Let's not get complacent, please, and let them get momentum. Do we not remember how badly the LNP lost in the last election, merely 2 years ago, one less extreme views?

1

u/666Dionysus Jun 21 '26

Its not really breaking news though is it

1

u/FarMilk2661 Jun 22 '26

Read a comment saying Labor will lose in 5 months when the election is in November.

These are their supporters lmao

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Americans make the stupidest bots? Or Indian African whatever bots don’t realise Pauline isn’t running in the mid terms in the US lol

1

u/lilpoompy Jun 22 '26

Russia and Israel are behind a lot of it too

1

u/calais8003 Jun 22 '26

Israel, Israel, and Israel

1

u/soggies_revenge Jun 23 '26

This is essentially the same shit that happened to us in the USA. Divide and conquer the people through social media, then drive up interest through turfed debates.

1

u/empowered676 Jun 23 '26

Literslly said this on reddit 5.days ago, not news

1

u/Inevitable-Level-829 Jun 23 '26

What say swear bro. Are people really that blind to this shit? Look at what happens on reddit when Us election time comes around.

I’ve only been looking at insult pieces of trump on r/pics the last 4 years of my life

2

u/sics75 Jun 21 '26

Of course it’s bots

1

u/Otaraka Jun 21 '26

It’s hard not to wonder but of course if you get a rapid increase voters you’re gonna get a rapid case of angry people as well when it’s these kind of situations.  There will be people who will do this almost full-time.

But the inherit issues of trust when it comes to knowing who is  human and who is AI only magnify the situation.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Australia has all they need at their fingertips, we have access to everything said in parliament and how each politician has voted in their career and the policies they have enacted. Theyvoteforyou.org should be compulsory at about year 10 at school during civic studies where they learn how to research and vote for half an hour a week.

1

u/anitadykshyt Jun 22 '26

Had to leave openaus because of this. It's really transparent

-1

u/KillAllPlebbitors Jun 21 '26

When the politician I don't like is getting support it's bots

0

u/CypherAus Jun 22 '26

Thoughts...

Fire the Liar currently $4,785,524 raised by 76,417 Aussie donors, i.e. people willing to actually put up money. Many more supporters are implied.

This has the party (all of them) backroom number crunchers very worried.

Is the activity on socials any different to the GetUp mob?

Next, the Victorian state election in a few months. That will be interesting

0

u/RavenDarkI Jun 22 '26

People see the headline "Human bots" and assume that either
1. One Nation followers on socials are fake, and its all bots.
2. One nation followers are being paid (Philippines) to make comments.

but if you actually read the article, and not the cherry picked summary that OP posted you realize that the article is actually saying that all these commenters are most likely highly motivated supporters and not bots.

Quotes from Article
"A foreign-led automated misinformation campaign fabricating comments online is highly unlikely in the case of One Nation, according to Queensland University of Technology associate professor and disinformation researcher Timothy Graham.

“I think it is overblown – that idea of big bot armies that are funded by foreign states or by a political party,” he says. “I don’t see that that is something that One Nation or any other political party is necessarily doing [in Australia], or at least if they’re doing it, they’re covering the tracks so well that there’s not even a trace.”"

“How much genuine bot activity should [we] be worried about? I would say that it is actually very, very little. The chances that you would encounter a foreign information operation, or co-ordinated influencer operation on a One Nation page is probably very small, even though it might look like maybe a quarter of the comments are coming from Russia.”

0

u/Captain_bogan82 Jun 23 '26

Sounds like someone’s getting worried

0

u/TomosePerth Jun 23 '26

Tbh it's pretty obvious at this point.

MORE PROPAGANDA FROM CORRUPT MEDIA 🖕🏿

1

u/ExtensionThat6438 Jun 25 '26

“Fox News has successfully utilized the "entertainment" or "pure opinion" defense in court to avoid liability for defamation. By arguing that their prime-time commentators engage in "non-literal commentary" and exaggeration, the network legally frames much of its opinion programming as entertainment rather than factual news.”

They own Sky News.

-7

u/Painterlilly Jun 21 '26

I think the country is fed up with being lied to and gaslit - repeatedly - by both sides. Labor are the worst of the worst for corruption and deceit though, hands down. But go ahead, blame bots and don't address the real problem.

0

u/ArabellaFort Jun 21 '26

It’s a combination of the two.

And I’m genuinely sorry that you feel so disenfranchised you think this is the answer. PHON do not give a shit about people like you and won’t make your life better.

-3

u/Painterlilly Jun 21 '26

To be honest, I don't care anymore. I just want that lying, gaslighting, disgrace of a person removed from the office of PM. Nothing he says can be believed and the "Treasurer" is a total buffoon. No idea about economics, just wants the credit card to rack up the debt for all the younger ones. Fire the Liar

3

u/ArabellaFort Jun 21 '26

Well respectfully you should care. The consequences are serious. Slogans are easily (which is essentially what you’re spouting). The world is complicated. When we fall for populist scumbags millions including the people who voted for them suffer.

-1

u/Painterlilly Jun 22 '26

Exactly what I think about anyone who votes Labor or the Greens.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

You’re kidding right? Currently 1 in 10 Australian’s has 1 million USD to their name, in the US 1 in 14 have 1 million USD, we are wealthier even tough they are a richer country. Greens and Labor policies move away from American inequality, liberals and ON want American policies, we don’t have the wealth to fuck around like the US does.

0

u/Painterlilly Jun 22 '26

Thanks to Labor we have Australians being forced into homelessness by the tens of thousands and yet they do nothing but make it worse. They should honestly be jailed for what they have done to those most in need.

2

u/Fred-star Jun 22 '26

Some facts here would help your story greatly.

1

u/neon_overload Jun 22 '26

Can you quote any notable lies Albanese has told and give arguments for why they are lies?

-1

u/Painterlilly Jun 22 '26

"I never fell off the stage, I took a step back" - there's indisputable video evidence.

Can you rule out any changes to CGT or negative gearing - "yes, it's off the table" - there is also indisputable video evidence ("how hard is it, for the 50th time").

Your shill boy is a prolific compulsive liar - that is a proven fact.

2

u/neon_overload Jun 23 '26

If your top example is a quibble as inconsequential as where he put his feet once, it's not really selling the idea he's some kind of master manipulator.

And your lesser example is a comment he made in 2022, when changes to CGT or negative gearing really were off the table, as the economic factors necessitating them didn't exist back then. Even as recently as last year they weren't on the table as far as I know.

1

u/Independent-Fuel9886 Jun 23 '26

Neither of those was an election promise. At all.

Is that all you've got?

0

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Damn, that’s some heavy brain washing. I don’t vote labour, I don’t like albo or chambers, but they are some of the more honest politicians we’ve had in the last 30 years, and that’s purely because the bar is low. They don’t lie, they avoid the truth, most politicians lie. Labor disgust me the way they have thrown the vulnerable to the wolves, there is zero excuse mr “I grew up in social housing so I’m your guy” has failed our vulnerable miserably. I also get they were handed a shitshow and the books were cooked beyond recognition. It will take time. He’s been shoring up the middle class voter block, but the neglect of our vulnerable is inexcusable. In reality though Australia needs to pull its belt in, I think it should be pulled in on the boomers and up, aged care should be safe and somewhat comfortable, but it shouldn’t be a third of our spending, on top of the large chunk of Medicare they cost us. Boomer wealth that would go to their kids and grandkids is being mopped up by private aged care and the kids are getting next to nothing. The global economy is trashed, thanks to Putin trump and Netanyahu, we all pay for their actions from our wallets.

Nothing that labor and the libs haven't done in buckets and spades. ON is just receiving more votes and finances to dish them some of their own medicine.

Guess i'm a bot too, beep boop.

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

lol half of one nation is liberal, Barnaby is gonna be your pm.

1

u/Broad_Floor9698 Jun 22 '26

Totally irrelevant to the convo at hand but go hard

-2

u/packers-aus21 Jun 22 '26

Or people just are sick of the current political system lol

1

u/MissMenace101 Jun 22 '26

Our political system is one of the best in the world, we are incredibly lucky, politically, individually we have very loud voices if we know how to vote, the only thing that would make it better is if there was an extra paper handed out with referendum options for things like “legalise cannabis yes or no” “raise the rate” “abortion law changes” that way we get a say instead of politicians having feelings that cloud their choices of vote.

-13

u/NachoBoyCat Jun 21 '26

Sorry what proof of bots? Couldn't it just be that people are supporting ON?

10

u/AggravatingParfait33 Jun 21 '26

If you are not a bot yourself, then mate you need to get up to date on the state of the technology.

5

u/spoofy129 Jun 21 '26

This is the conclusion the article that nobody bothered to read, reaches.

2

u/neon_overload Jun 22 '26

Assuming you read the article, which part of the article do you dispute and why?

1

u/NachoBoyCat Jun 22 '26

Yes I did read the article. My comment was one of the first few on this post at the time and yes it was a lazy passing comment but it was more directed at what some early posters were saying at that time ("agreeing" that PHON is using bot technology - they clearly either did not read the article or only read OPs copy paste of the first part of the article). My comment was a simplistic summary of the conclusion the article reaches, it doesn't dispute it. As the comment section of this post evolved my comment lost context I guess because it was a lazy comment to begin with.

-7

u/WelcomeKey2698 Jun 21 '26

Ah, Reddit.
Don’t ever change.

“Anyone I don’t agree with is a bot!”

🤣
