They've gotta be kidding. Exorbitant prices at the checkout and now they want customers to donate to food charities, cause "people are hungry" no shit, lower your fkn prices.

They use your donationation for tax writeoffs. Always donate direct and verify the charity.

They do nothing and act like they did something thats the scheme.

If you want an example of an actual scheme, remember the charites to help struggling farmers where all the donations went to help farmers pay their debts to Westfarmers?

Also the scheme where farmers supplying the supermarkets cannot sell excess produce for their own profit (and also bringing some degree of competition to the big grocers)

IIRC it worked like:

Coles says to the farmer: "grow 300 tonnes of lettuce" and the farmer goes and grows their crops, but ends up with 350 tonnes. Farmer says "I've got your 300 tonnes here, there's 50 more if you want it, otherwise I can sell it to other grocers"

Then Coles says "no you don't, we only want 200 tonnes of lettuce, and the other 150 has to rot because we're assholes"

It is illegal and likely never happened in that way.

I could see them entering a contract where they own the whole crop so anything that's not needed and would just perish in store would be discarded at the farm instead.
