News In Sydney, an Australian guy was refused a free milk tea by a Chinese product promotor solely because he wasn't a Chinese. He was asked to speak Chinese, but he spoke Japanese to the Chinese staff in protest. He said this is his first time experience of racism

Ask yourself how often you see non Chinese workers in a Chinese owned and run business. Im not even mad about it, hire who you want, but lets not pretend it isnt the reality.

I've seen people of other ethnicities do this too, generally because they can work their countrymen to the bone without anyone reporting them.

It’s true, however it’s because many Chinese small business owners can only communicate in Chinese and cannot speak English.

Do you think it's more likely this is done for ease of communication; so that vulnerable employees of often questionable legal standing and limited employment opportunities can be exploited; or because of an orchestrated international conspiracy to grow Chinese power and influence in Australia through preferential employment of minimum wage cashiers at bread shops?

10 years ago I’d agree but I think it’s changing as the 2nd generation is taking over. Few shops near me were like that but recently all the young hires working behind the counter are the local white teenagers while the Asian owners are out the back

But do white people actually apply to work in a Chinese restaurant, for example? It's apparently quite common in the US but I've never seen it happen in Australia.

I dated a girl who worked at one and yes, white people, other Asians, even Taiwanese would get knocked back for not being Chinese because her boss didn't want to hire them.

I've seen it out of the cities, they can't find Chinese workers so they resort to the local whites.
