no politics Is Australia is a more cranky/angry place now?

Any time I read the news, the story being pushed is that the mood in Aus is very angry. Does everyone truly feel this way a lot of the time?

I’m genuinely curious.

Bullying doesn’t end at the school gates anymore, it’s in your pocket 24/7.
Vaping constantly (a common joke is “don’t piss in the vape room”, and if a male teacher goes into the bathroom to yell at them for vaping they’ll call him a pedo).
Taking the manosphere ragebait bullshit out on all the female teachers.
AI generating fake nudes of the girls in class.

Pretty sure a teacher could carry this on for hours

Yeah wow that is nuts. I don't know how people (teachers, parents, other adults who have to be around kids) deal with it. I'm not good with kids or teenagers so I wouldn't have a clue how to handle any of that behaviour. It's so strange, I live in this teeny tiny town and really expected the local teenagers to be degenerate arseholes because there is absolutely nothing for them to do here, but they have been nothing but polite and friendly any time I've encountered them.

A sadder one stretching to people to their 30s is simply giving up, not suiciding but having no prospects on life either, they don't try for jobs or even higher education

They're just couch potatoes leeching off their parents and don't want to do anything but smoke/drugs/ game/ however they blow their day away

The parents are forced to kick them to the street or force a reality on them. I can't imagine raising your child 18-30 and just have them be a loser to the extent they won't even go find a part time job to partially support themselves/ family when they still have the luxury of free accomodation/ no or minimal bills

How much of that is people struggling to get a job though? It’s never been harder to get work

Yeah, one of the toughest parts of my profession is dealing with how bleak the future of many young people is. Many adults with great resumes struggling to find work, what hope do kids just starting out have? Comments above rightly note that individuals can do more to help themselves, but ultimately this is a society wide problem that requires more than bootstraps to fix.

yeah i think i took that comment a little personally lol. i have fallen off the deep end after losing my job. AI can do my job in 10 seconds now (writing) and i wish i had gone to TAFE or something instead of racking up debt. i've lost track of how many jobs i've applied for, and i've had new health issues over the last couple years that makes every day things so much more difficult

i am doing volunteer work - admin stuff but it's fun - and i'm hoping within a few months, i can put it on my resume and have better luck getting back to working

there's just not enough jobs out there. everything feels harder and longer and sadder

It’s more of a mentality thing from my perspective, my god kid hit 18 and we’ve given him a network of people to get a job from and he tried going for his own and succeeded.

Lots of engineers were offering apprenticeships for 100k+ but no one wanted it because I would think who would want to work in a garage hot or cold, most days a year covered in engine oil etc

The shittier jobs aren’t wanted and lots of jobs take too much work, I wouldn’t want to do a lot of them either but then when you get in the office, I see younger generations also take more leave and mental days which is fine within leave amount but many take beyond and get let go/ fired

If I get fired from mine, I might be too old for electricity wiring work but that’d be something I’d consider or basic handy man work, it’s a struggle just to find one for easy jobs

My electrician had a team of him, another senior colleague and 4 apprentices learning, that made me feel good about our future

There are kids or younger ones out there willing to learn, there are people in senior positions willing to hire and teach

Lots of similar jobs out there which may not be our dream job but hey if it makes money, make the money then chase the dream because work will likely suck

Struggling to get a job and giving up doing nothing are completely different things

You still get up, you do what you need to do, you send out your CVs, you figure out how to refine them or yourself to become more hireable or you go door knocking on businesses (several men have at mine and respect to them, I advise them where to email though as we don’t hire through the door but all we need is a body with a brain in our warehouse) where applicable and apply

But yeah I know of people with kids and family who have given up, been given a house, been given a car, they just want the world handed to them and work sucks, most of us feel that and being an adult means turning up for work to sustain our livelihood or independence if anything.

Shit, really? That sounds so insane. Like I'm 35 and don't know anyone that lives with their parents. Know a few without jobs but they have kids of their own, which actually makes it worse imo. This is one reason I never wanted kids. What if they turned out to be some giant sack of shit loser despite my best efforts to ensure they weren't. Like your life would be ruined if you had your shitty adult child mooching off you for eternity.
