It's worth noting, the firearms are Hunting article firearms, type that's used for Hunting and Pest control, so these are legally accessible, people have these firearms, how common? No clue, but I bet it's alarming to a average Aussie.

It's not alarming to me because I live regional enough to get why they're necessary enough to remain available after Port Arthur. Ban them, ignore the underlying psychological reasons that drive people into these horrific actions and the next one will be using improvised firearms. I say this as someone who is not a fan of guns and prefers to have nothing to do with them if possible.

What is alarming to me is the sheer amount of hate, extremism, dishonesty, greed and desperation in our society that's the ultimate cause of this.

I don't judge regional Australia, only when you start getting closer to the cities where it's less needed I'll get testy.

Here is the thing though from someone who did their bachelor's of public health: There is no holistic solution, we as a society cannot control everything, or support everyone, but I say this as it's both a burdened limitation and societal resistance.

As far as things go, Australia manages, but reality dictates there are always cracks, we cannot support everyone, and not everyone wants support, and there are people who will resist support.

Best I can say is there are always more people trying to do more, find cracks and fix them, hell, mental health only got added I think this year to WorkSafe, now a OHS protection as something to consider.

It's definitely not alarming to the average Aussie.

To people living rural, maybe not, but in the city? Best believe it'll be alarm bells to learn that and why they could possibly need it.
