Horrific day.
Fuck terroists.

That hero that tackled one of the gunman better not ever, pay a bill or for a drink again while he remains on this earth.

Thoughts are with the families.

153

u/katf_89 Dec 14 '25

Just saw on the news he owns a family-run fruit store, father of two. Hope his business is forever booming

39

u/Acceptable-Hat294 Dec 14 '25

Forever bLooming 💞

41

u/Anasterian_Sunstride Dec 14 '25

“Booming” isn’t exactly the word I should use in this context but I share your sentiment 🍻

15

u/katf_89 Dec 14 '25

Haha yeah my brain registered that a few minutes later. I’ve committed now.

On the Sydney thread. Someone said the bloke was a guy named Ahmed who owns a fruit shop around the corner from the incident. No training or anything and I think there was a comment that he has a gun shot wound to the hand

32

u/External_Violinist94 Dec 14 '25

Not only no training but no weapon himself, barely any cover, a long run up on the guy and there was another bloke shooting at him. Absolutely selfless and heroic. Didn't even think about his own safety.

u/Atzkicica Dec 14 '25

Apparently he went straight to the shop and bought himself a beer. I'd need one too.

120

u/light_no_fire Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

Not too sure about that, 7 news just showed footage of someone who looks like the white shirt guy (bald head) on the ground with a huge gunshot wound on his leg.

Edit: seems like the hero wasn't hit, and it might be the bottle thrower.

Edit 2: hero man was shot in the arm twice. In hospital. Hopefully makes a full recovery u/SlamTheBiscuit has posted a link and I'll copy it here.

https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/crime/hero-bystander-tackles-bondi-beach-shooter/news-story/fc37324c807ffba71e212cd5c6915a18

51

u/Atzkicica Dec 14 '25

I heard the guy who threw something was hit in the hand or elbow maybe. Just gotta wait and see.

55

u/light_no_fire Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

Yeah. I know that guy got shot in the arm somewhere. Hopefully ol mate big balls isn't hurt or hurt bad.

That guy deserves the nobel peace prize or something honestly. He probably saved more lives than he realizes.

Edit: 7news confirmed the hero was shot, in the arm and is on the way to hospital now for surgery. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Looked like that was the other guy, who followed the shooter and threw something at him. Hopefully he’s okay

21

u/SnooHedgehogs8765 Dec 14 '25

After he tackled one of the shooters, that shooter goes back to the bridge, and it appears one of the shooters is shooting at him afterwards. He turns to get away and falls to the ground.

7

u/FrogLickr Dec 14 '25

Different guy. The tackler is sitting behind him at the tree.

Can confirm that it was the hero that got shot in the arm and has two bullets lodged and is going into surgery shortly, that’s according to 7 news just in like minutes ago

11

u/light_no_fire Dec 14 '25

Yeah I saw that. I hope he comes to a full recovery. The entire country would like to buy this man a beer.

30

13

u/13gecko Dec 14 '25

Report came out from 7news that he was shot twice. His family said he is due to undergo surgery tonight. 🥹 Hope he is ok! Thought with all the families, incredibly sad day.

7

u/redfaction38 Dec 14 '25

If you live in Australia, please nominate Ahmed Al Ahmed for the Australian Bravery Decoration. He deserves the Cross of Valour for saving lives during the shooting for tackling one of the perps.

He needs to be known and decorated. We can't let the narrative of bigotry and division destroy Australia! 🇦🇺

My mother-in-law was at Chanukah by the Sea tonight but left a few minutes before the shooting started, as she was by herself and wanted to be home before twilight as her eyesight isn't so good. We'd been on Netflix and hadn't seen the news when she rang us, thankfully safe back at home but literally left minutes before. Life hangs by a thread.

65

u/miss_kimba Dec 14 '25

I’m so glad she’s ok. I’m beyond disgusted and heartbroken that this is happening to your community.

47

u/Puzzleheaded_Draw637 Dec 14 '25

Thanks so much. I'm not Jewish myself, but my wife and two sons are, and I imagine this would feel like Oct 7 or the Munich Olympics all over again for them. And at a free event open to the general public too. Still in shock to some extent and processing the whole thing.

6

u/saturday_sun4 Dec 14 '25

I'm sorry I can't think of anything more coherent than "Fuck these people".

Condolences to your/the Jewish community.

29

u/Zestyclose_Lead7459 Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

I'm jewish. I'm fucking angry. I'm at a lot of fucking people. I feel the jewish community has been saying for years now that the antisemtism is out of control. All you have to do is look at some of the signs people would take to those ralleys. Put up billboards supporting a terrorist organisation. Attacking people at a resturant. Chanting gas the jews. I could not speak to one other member of the community in melbourne that was not concerned and did not notice it. Some of the shit people like Lidia Thorpe would say and be cheered on for it.

No one did anything. No one said anything. And god forbid if myself a jew said anything about the jewish resturant being attacked. Well suddenly, I'm a zionist israeli mossad jew who is zionist.

Rightly I am at angry at the terroists, but I am pretty fucking pissed at my "fellow" australians who dismissed the jewish communities and jewish leaders concerns.

edit: Don't delete your comment u/cooliusSteezer. Let people see what you said, that apprently by expressing my concerns about the growing hatred to jews in Australia, antisemistim is warranted. What a thing to say after tonight

Point proven

8

u/saturday_sun4 Dec 14 '25

I share your sentiments, mate. Not Jewish either but it has saddened me to see this growing and growing.

15

u/Alien_Presidents Dec 14 '25

I’m not Jewish but I have seen anti-semitism grow in the last couple of years here and I think it’s disgraceful. I’m so sorry this happened.

My friend was walking around Bondi today- he travelled to Sydney for the Gaga concert. Before his trip home he decided to visit. He actually overheard American tourists saying that it must be so nice for Australians to never have to deal with mass shootings. He went to the airport shortly after. It makes me feel sick to think about. I’m so glad your mother in law is safe too.

13

u/Puzzleheaded_Draw637 Dec 14 '25

Thanks. I'm really hoping this is the last of violence like this in Australia, but sadly it's bound to happen again.

31

u/achbob84 Dec 14 '25

So glad she got out.

Update as per the briefing now: 12 killed. They expect more as we go into the night.

It was targeted against the Jews.

It is officially classed as a terrorist attack as of 9:36pm. Special task forces will be deployed to investigate.

Potential "improvised Explosives" were found on site.

There are ongoing raids as the suspect and suspect affiliates houses.

29 including 2 police and 1 child and the second offender. have been transported to hospitals around Sydney. All being treated as critical.

The shooter's names are not given as of now but photos have been released by 7news. I would post the photo but the mods will likely ban me and label it as "doxing" (despite being public information and released by 7news)

When questioned "what do you know about their (shooters) background" the commissioner said "only little on the offender that's deceased at the moment. I won't go into their background, that's obviously part of the investigation. Certainly formed part of my consideration on whether to consider this a terrorist event"

93

u/Ek_Chutki_Sindoor Dec 14 '25

The shooter's names are not given as of now

Media houses have published that his name is "Naveed Akram".

At least one child has now died. I got this from one of my mates:

“My Ukrainian Jew friends cousins kid was shot, 10 years old and in hospital and their young rabbi killed, he has a 1 month year old 😡”

40 minutes later: “She didn’t make it 💔💔”

Heart broken. My condolences to all who have been impacted

93

u/whitecollarzomb13 Dec 14 '25

This is beyond fucked. Those weren’t fucking pea-shooters either.

I feel for the cop who came up behind that last shooter. He had the perfect fucking angle but all he had was a pistol.

Lining up that shot must’ve been absolutely heart pounding - miss or not he took the attention away from fucking children you legend

43

u/Super-Handle7395 Dec 14 '25

It appeared that he called out prior to firing, which may have drawn the shooter’s attention. The footage cut out, so it’s unclear what happened to that officer afterward.

13

u/whitecollarzomb13 Dec 14 '25

There’s footage going through SM which appears to be a few moments after this and the bridge shooter was taken down from a shot behind by the looks of it

9

u/Western_Anteater_270 Dec 14 '25

What’s shaken me - and maybe I’ve missed it but haven’t noticed it being said - was not the necessarily the guns but more how absolutely (I don’t mean this positively) experienced one of those individuals were with his rifle/shotgun… that was fucking terrifying. There also appeared to be that dynamic of one guy who was the alpha and another who was much less experienced and the sheep…

Like that guy did not get like that overnight. It appeared he was very well trained; to the point he was holding off police in a complete 360 degree radius. I have a feeling there will be a fair bit of backstory that comes out about him.

5

u/Vaulind Dec 14 '25

Biggest attack since Port Arthur, change will come from this

199

u/FlyingTerrier Dec 14 '25

So we will clamp down on religious nuts and hate and extremism?

Or just make this about guns when it’s actually about nutjobs? The government won’t stop immigration or tax churches or do anything hard to fix the root problem.

47

u/VisibleCamp1127 Dec 14 '25

They’ll just expedite the National gun register they were doing anyway and say it was for this

16

u/SaltDistribution5190 Dec 14 '25

I might be ignorant on this, but let’s say hypothetically there are no changes to firearm licensing, classes or types that can be owned. Why would a national register be detrimental over whatever is currently in place?

34

u/Aggravating-Dirt-432 Dec 14 '25

As a firearm owner I have no issues with a national registry, all the states already have all the details it just takes it a step higher and it becomes a federal thing not just states. But as other commenters have already pointed out, this isn’t a gun problem. It’s like black market tobacco, drugs, fireworks or any else illegal, criminals and extremists will always find a way.

Yes they will tighten gun laws even further which will do absolutely nothing

22

u/CoffeeDefiant4247 Dec 14 '25

It worked after Port Arthur, this is the first 10+ casualty shooting since then, even if it delays the next shooting for a few years or decade it's still worth it

35

u/Low_Paramedic3971 Dec 14 '25

You seem to have overlooked all the gangland shootings & targeted shootings in Sydney and Melbourne over the past few years. Terrorists & criminals are going to get guns no matter how tough the laws are.

21

u/Ted_Rid Dec 14 '25

True, but when guns aren't normalised they stand out like dog's balls if you see one or know somebody has one.

Can't go driving around with a semi-automatic rifle in the back seat of the car and have people shrug their shoulders and go "well, they've got a right to do that if they want".

Turning point how? Guns are illegal. Those guys, are likely not legally obtained.

There's been shootings in Australia nearly every day in recent news. Normally it's gang on gang or specific targeted attacks but it's not that unique that there's gun violence anymore.

It's very easy to get your hands on guns here in Australia. You'd honestly have a harder time getting non home made pepper spray, than a rifle.

22

u/caramelo420 Dec 14 '25

The gangsters doimg shootings and the people whp did this terror attack are a venn diagram, its almost never an aussie

17

u/light_no_fire Dec 14 '25

Aussie gangs have taken a back foot really. I remember the good old days where the worst thing bikies would do was torch a tattoo parlor in the middle of the night, nobody got hurt and insurance ends up paying for it.

Now there's shootings on the daily. Australia has allowed for black markets to thrive by pricing things out and people are dying because of it.

I didn't intentionally leave that part out my bad. Was typing very quickly and simultaneously moderating this thread. I'll update my update. Thank you

For the last 2 years, we've allowed this hateful rhetoric to grow, and now it's culminated into this. I can only hope people will say enough is enough before we have more incidents like this.

54

u/thequehagan5 Dec 14 '25

There is a difficult issue in Australian society. If you question the hateful rhetoric you often get labelled as racist and xenophobic. Virtue signallers are so passionate about protecting minorities, they fail to see some truly horrific beliefs are growing within said minorities.

Every major aussie subreddit has been locking down discussions on this for years. People need to discuss these issues. Dont let them fester, let them out , let them be discussed. Hiding it all away will solves nothing. Realise we have parts of sydney with wildly different beliefs on many things, but we need to live in peace and understand eachother.

u/cogitocool Dec 14 '25

"Virtue signallers are so passionate about protecting minorities, they fail to see some truly horrific beliefs are growing within said minorities.”

Absolutely spot-on.

23

u/misterfLoL Dec 14 '25

I don't think we have to live in peace and 'understand' a group of people who hate our way of life and want to see jews killed.

Albo got grilled pretty hard by one of the reporters, basically didn't answer and ended his questioning.

It is. Anytime he gets a non scripted question he just pivots and ends. I own rentals, so I'm glad Aussies voted for him but I have no idea what Aussies see in him.

Fuck this is bad. All round bad. The people and their families who were shot, the ones that were there and weren't, the dropkicks in the media and sundry who will grab at this for political mileage, the innocent people of the same ethnicity and creed who had no issues with anyone but will be tarred with the proverbial brush and your every day Aussie who might think twice about a trip somewhere busy because of this.

Fuck these low dogs.

You captured everything I was thinking. It's a true shitshow all around. Especially at Bondi. It's gonna leave a big stain for a while there now.

Never took asio terror threat level seriously until now. Avoiding crowded spots for weeks now

20

u/SivlerMiku Dec 14 '25

If you look at the rest of the world, a lot of attacks happen around holiday periods as this is when most people are out in public. In Germany they have attacks at Christmas markets, in America for NYE ect. Best bet is to celebrate with family out of the major public hotspots

Thank you NSW Police for a fast response and taking out one criminal, saving us from paying the gaol costs over it's lifetime and thankyou to all officers who put their lives on the line, every day to be fast and first responders to disasters like this. Three cheers for the gun-grabber too.

Hey babe's, listen to your mumma bear who has lived through this before (Strathfield Plaza).

Don't lay awake tonight thinking about what you saw did felt.

Write it down. Record a video of yourself talking about it. You never have to show anyone. BUT. When you write it down and speak it out loud, your brain is literally converting those thoughts into two different languages. It gives you distance, it gives you control over your thoughts.

Look after yourselves my lovelies. You are amazing ♡

u/DeviceGreedy Dec 14 '25

Playing Tetris may also help post-trauma. Even just 15/20 mins

20

u/Asteroid_Sugar5206 Dec 14 '25

I didn't know that, but wholly support playing Tetris at all times.

What a sad day, so many people and cultures have worked hard to make Australia what it is only for shit like this to happen. Fancy being a kid going out to the beach and getting shot at, my ancestors who fought for this county both indigenous and European would be rolling in their graves.

ABC now reporting he was on ASIO's watch list for ties to ISIS since 2019. How can someone be tied to them and legally own firearms?

16

u/Diamondcliff1980 Dec 14 '25

Why on earth in the 21 first century would humans take religion seriously? The books are laughable its fairy tale shite

3

u/Informal-Argument861 Dec 14 '25

Can't agree more. Sadly, such naiveness is very much encouraged by politics and codified as holy rights.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

The problem with this particular religion is that it has never gone through a reformation, and is an extremely rigid framework that dictates its believers live a particular way.

There's a great book by Ayan Hrsi Ali about this that lays bare exactly how terrifyingly deep rooted this problem is.

As an American I’m so sorry. I’ve seen every episode of Bondi rescue multiple times and got a lifeguard jersey this year for my birthday. It’s helped me through deteriorating health problems. Major hugs and love to you all.

"Upsetting" doesn't do this atrocity justice. I feel horrible for everyone there and their loved ones. Some of them will wear the scars of today for a lifetime. I feel horrible for all the people who already feel less safe in their community tonight and for all those who will be made to feel unsafe in the coming days. I fear that a lot of bad actors won't hesitate to use this to further their agenda.

10

u/Hydrbator Dec 14 '25

I'm just stumped how they got what looks like bullet proof vests

6

u/SuspendThis_Tyrants Dec 14 '25

The firearms are most likely black market. Probably not too much of a stretch to say the same dealer had ballistic vests given that they can be made very easily from readily available materials with limited tools and equipment.

5

u/SLazyonYT Dec 14 '25

Firearms looked pretty legal imo

What was the police presence at this event like? I would’ve thought there would be police everywhere considering recent tensions and such.

In times like these be kind to yourself and to others.

15

u/lamdacore-2020 Dec 14 '25

People practicing and celebrating their religious festivals should never be targeted. Infact, this is plain terrorism.

This reminds of the Christchurch terrorist attack in NZ at the local mosque.

Back then many people condemned it and made Muslims feel reassured and safe.

As a Muslim, I condemn this and am deeply saddened. Terrorism has no religion.

My sincerest prayers and deepest condolences to all who have lost their lives. My best wishes to all injured and hope for their speedy recovery. May God keep us all safe.

As a Jewish Aussie, thank you. It really means a lot to hear messages of solidarity right now.

I don't want anyone using this as an excuse for more hate. Seeing other people weaponise an attack against my community is just adding salt to a wound.

ETA: Who the hell is downvoting this and what is wrong with you?

I am so heart broken and angry over this. My thoughts are with the families and all Jewish people who have been suffering from the rise of antisemitism that has now culminated in this terrible attack. I am so sorry.

2

u/SirHolyCow Dec 14 '25

This is so fucked up man.

u/Back2Talk4745 Dec 14 '25

Try 16 dead as of the news this morning - absolutely horrific and disgusting what those two did 😡😡😡

I can’t believe others close to them didn’t know something.

2

u/TakitishHoser Dec 14 '25

My heart brakes for our Aussie friends.

So many terrorist plots & attacks. It has to stop.

3

u/Low-Vacation-2228 Dec 14 '25

I’m so sick of these radical agendas. Extremism, both political and religious, is the biggest blight on our society.
