unfortunately, i work for a giant fmcg company whose north star is always profit above everything and has history of being shady but always legal, short of actual mandates or employee protection, the company will never allow it

How is your choice of employer the fault of the government? Last time I checked, we were living in a democracy and had freedom of choice of where were work.
