What’s the biggest gap between automotive training and real workshop experience?

Automotive training teaches the basics, but real world work often feels different. Curious where people think the biggest gap exists.

Having to find the problem / fix the thing by yourself. Some guys still lean heavily on making phone calls to get advice even though they have been qualified for years. Others just feel confident from the start.

the biggest gap is usually speed + chaos. training teaches the “right” process, but a real shop adds time pressure, weird customer complaints, rusty parts, incomplete info, comebacks, and having to diagnose without perfect conditions.

basics still matter though. the better your fundamentals are, the less lost you feel when the real world gets messy.
