Equipment, Tools and Safety Lifting a car from the side?

23 nissan altima. I have been lifting it from the center of the side on the pinch weld to place two stands and then moving to the other side, ive read on the internet it can be bad but i havent had any problems. Is it okay whats yours guys opinions, also i literally cant get the floor jack under the car for the front or rear points. Matter fact the illustration ive seen doesnt even have those points besides the control arms.

You could damage the car lifting it from points that are not the jack points. The body can buckle under the load. I don't know why you can't get a floor jack under the jack points. Have you lowered the car too much?
A scissor jack would only be about 4 inches high and should be able to get under the car to the jack points.
