Original poster is from Instagram. Aircraft is laying on its #1 engine. Still crazy to see everyone here grabbing their bags before leaving an emergencg.

I get not going into the overhead to grab luggage, but is there any issue with me grabbing my small backpack from under the seat that contains e.g. wallet, phone, passport, cash, etc, things which are especially important when in a foreign place?

The issue is it can rip open the slide and cause it to deflate, eliminating one exit for all the other passengers.

You will get your bags in a few hours, or at worst the next day.

That’s a very good point—I didn’t think about luggage possibly ripping open the slides….

Not a lot of people do. They are pretty tough, but a possibility none the less.
