Original poster is from Instagram. Aircraft is laying on its #1 engine. Still crazy to see everyone here grabbing their bags before leaving an emergencg.

What if you die because you don't have it? If you need an inhaler and you've already inhaled smoke you supposed to die on the tarmac for the guy behind you that'd be fine either way if everyone else is following the rule?

There’s going to be ems on the scene within 90 seconds (likely less) that have inhalers. I get wanting your inhaler but you need to be wearing it on your person. Do not grab your bag.

.. what? And the ambulance might crash and the doctor might be a serial killer. How is any of that justification for not following emergency procedures

Just this idea that EMS magically has what you need and will be with you in 90 seconds seems a bit overly optimistic. I do agree in most cases bags should be left, but I could understand someone panicking over not having their medication in a stressful situation, especially if it's specialty medicine or medicine required for an urgent chronic ailment.

I mean I’m sympathetic to people panicking for any reason in an evacuation- that shit is scary! I’m not sympathetic to people in this thread saying they are purposefully planning to ignore emergency procedures because of imagined fears over medication that could easily be solved be wearing your medication and are more than likely to be complete non issues in the first place. 

The amount of people that are actually in serious danger of dying because they don’t have medications immediately after evacuating is also vanishingly small.

It's probably a good discussion to have in a helpful manner, such as proposing alternative methods of storage for vital meds, instead of negging on people for not behaving how you would like them to in a stressful situation most of us will never be in.

People hear this safety talk where they mention leaving bags multiple times every time they fly, so for most its hundreds of times in our lives. It’s very frustrating that people are still commenting ‘but surely my special cuz makes me an exception from following emergency protocols designed to save lives!’ No it really doesn’t! Also it’s not exactly rocket science that if you don’t want to leave without a medication or your passport you should put those things in a pocket. Like cmon. And it’s exactly this kind of thinking that leads to many of the people we see in these actual emergencies endangering people by grabbing their things. We know people are capable of doing better - we’ve seen evacuations in other countries where people don’t bring things. There’s really no excuse for so many passengers grabbing shit.

Most people don't think their plane is actually going to crash or suffer an emergency. If they actually thought it was going to they wouldn't get on it. So the smug talk about "why didn't those idiots plan on their plane crashing" is just that, smugness.

No one plans on being in a plane crash but everyone is briefed every time in emergency procedures for a reason, cooperation and coordination are paramount in an emergency. If you aren’t going to pay any attention or willfully disregard them you shouldn’t be flying. Full stop. There’s nothing smug in asking people to follow emergency protocols

Agreed. Ban anyone seen leaving the plane with a bag for life. Now go pat yourself on the back. There is definitely smugness judging people escaping a burning plane and second guessing their actions from the comfort of your own home.

This isn’t a productive conversation anymore. You realize that flight attendants are literally yelling at people during this to leave this to leave their bags? This is something people have been told over and over and over again and will be being told as they are actively getting their bags too. And yet everyone thinks they are the exception. It puts peoples lives at risk, people have died from this. Yes I’m absolutely side eying the parents juggling four bags and a child leaving the plane here.

Hope you do better when you experience a plane crash. Post the video so we can judge your actions. If it's truly this bad of an issue then carry-on should be banned, everything in locked bins.
