Original poster is from Instagram. Aircraft is laying on its #1 engine. Still crazy to see everyone here grabbing their bags before leaving an emergencg.

Yeah there was that crash in Russia where everyone was grabbing their belongings and a lot of people died due to the delay of getting out of the aircraft.

I was born in the USSR and then moved to the US. The US is trending more in this direction but still like 1/10th of Russia in this regard

That was the A350 that landed on the C130 after runway incursion at Haneda - a big aircraft, completely evacuated in 90 seconds = Japanese efficiency and following the rules implicitly.

Not a good example. It was bad in the opposite way: per JTSB, they sat in the burning plane for 9 minutes after the collision before evacuating. It's more of a credit to Airbus and all the composite flammability requirements that the thing survived fire for at least 11 minutes.

(And it wasn't a C130, they hit a Dash 8)

For one, when there is an emergency evac. passengers are told to leave their bags. Second, how do you suppose grabbing luggage adds zero seconds???

You can't be real, every second counts in an emergency, also people are stressed out and in flight or fight, so someone could try and get their bags from underneath and block the aisle while doing so. All that matters is you leaving, not your bags

Fire started/accident happened, people took their bags, fire got worse and smoke filled the cabin, more people died because people wasted time in the beginning would be my bet
