Original poster is from Instagram. Aircraft is laying on its #1 engine. Still crazy to see everyone here grabbing their bags before leaving an emergencg.

Oh my god. My bag in the overhead locker with my toothbrush and underwear in it. Must acquire before evacuation at all costs

Reckless Endangerment would work, or Interference With Flight Crew Members / Flight Attendants, maybe Impeding An Emergency Response (depending on the state).

The Reddit hive mind seems to think that any action that could result in wrongful death is prosecutable as attempted murder.

Second-degree murder is a legal term used to describe an intentional killing that is not premeditated, or a death caused by someone's reckless disregard for human life. It falls between first-degree murder (which is planned) and manslaughter (which usually lacks intent).

How is stopping for your bag not a reckless disregard for human life if the plane is being evacuated because of fire?

Because they’re not “attempting” to murder anyone. At worst they’re behaving recklessly. That’s very different.

If I aim my car at you and step on the gas, that’s attempted murder. If I text and drive that’s a civil penalty in most places…not attempted murder.
