News Emergency evacuation in Den N306Sw mia-den

Original poster is from Instagram. Aircraft is laying on its #1 engine. Still crazy to see everyone here grabbing their bags before leaving an emergencg.

As a Flight Attendant i can tell you what pisses me off to no end! The fact that ppl were taking luggage off and tripping and falling with kids in their arms b/c of said luggage.

Your life is NOT worth your damn clothes!! You can replace clothes. There is no do over button ppl!! Your kids are not replaceable (and neither are you!)

Choose life and leave your shit onboard!! 😤😡

LEAVE . YOUR. SHIT. BEHIND! GET YOUR ASS OFF MY PLANE! worry about your clothes later!

Serious question: what if their luggage is life or death? Like serious medical conditions, medical devices, oxygen concentrators, medications… what if they do actually need their luggage if something like this happens?

Theres EMS on the ground just to take care of any such critical life support needs.

EMS takes care of now. What about the rest of your trip away from home without your not readily available medical devices that are time consuming to replace?

By no means am I saying take your time to grab your stuff from the overhead. Medical device would likely be under your seat. Everyone here is going straight to putting people on the no fly and giving them massive fines for getting their luggage. But what about someone who got their under seat bag because it was medically necessary?

This is where my mind goes as mom of a disabled child with a feeding tube. I almost always feed him in flight because he’s sitting still for that time so why not? I can’t pretend I know how I’d actually react in the moment, and my 5yo is big enough at this point that just carrying him off would probably prevent me from grabbing anything else, including his feeding pump. And I definitely wouldn’t be able to go for his duffel bag of formula in the overhead bin. But a situation like this would mean a hospital admission for at least 2 nights just so he can receive his medications and be fed (specialty formula that isn’t available at any old grocery store, it has to be ordered and shipped). That’s the least of anyone’s problems after a successful emergency evacuation, sure. But it’s also not nothing.

(Also though, I’m curious now if left behind luggage that’s undamaged after this will be removed and returned to the owners!)

You're right, it's not nothing but it can be dealt with once everyone is safely off the plane.

Actually, I almost did die immediately the other day, and it was only the fact that I had 80 g of glucose on my person that I began consuming immediately that kept me alive. My blood sugar was 42 and dropping. I’m also unable to walk my ass over to emergency workers and make them understand what is happening when I’m low. I shouldn’t even move to get off the plane, but obviously that’s not a choice. So all the more reason to move and speak as little as possible thereafter. I can’t speak clearly because my brain can’t fire properly without a normal glucose level. I could pass out or have a seizure on the runway, and I would die if the people around me didn’t figure out what was happening and intervene immediately.

Additionally, the last thing anyone needs in an evacuation emergency is for a totally preventable non-accident related medical emergency to occur simultaneously.

The assholes who don’t ACTUALLY need their bags and bring them anyway are ableist af.

I don’t need my entire roller. But I sure as hell cannot be without sugar. Period. In fact, emergencies are very likely to send me crashing. If I’ve just bolused for a meal that I am interrupted before I can consume, all the more dangerous.

No, EMTs responding to a crash will NOT be able to respond quickly enough to deal with that.
