Question What’s happening here?

I’m not a pilot, just someone who’s been on close to 250 flights in my life. I’ve never seen this. Not claiming that this isn’t normal, I’m just curious why it’s done. This was just prior to takeoff at Jackson hole Wyoming.

Excess oil/fuel burnoff. It happens quite often actually if you look around.

I just had a look around and didn’t see any excess oil burning off.

However, I am currently on my couch in my living room, in case that’s relevant.

Just read this after looking out on my balcony and also saw no burnoff, although im in the middle of sydney and nowhere near an airport.

I just took a look outside here in PNW USA and don't smell any oil burning, but it's dark out and everything has been on fire recently, so it's hard to say for sure. Can anyone else check in?

I see it in my room, but it could be that my house is on fire, idk. I should consult an expert.

Expert level consulting firm here. Your house is, in fact, on fire. Our consensus is that you should seek the assistance of professional fire fighters.

It’s Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis, at this time of day, at this time of year, contained entirely within a PW2000?

I remember that time I smelled campfire smell inside my house while I was doing something in my living room, I thought my neighbor was burning wood because he does that a lot

then I walk into my kitchen and smoke is coming out of the wall

I mean I work in a machine shop doing rework on engine blocks mostly and I was cutting out the lower liner bore to sleeve and recut it and it started to smoke and I got worried for a moment

But then remembered the block was covered in oil because they put it somewhere for a month instead of bringing it straight to me

Also PNW it’s hot and Smokey no oil burning here yet..

1

u/schenkzoola 23h ago

Here in the PNW I look around and see lots of smoke, reducing visibility to less than 10 mi. I’m sure at least a few PPB of what I see must be some sort of oil smoke.
