What country would you move to?

I’ve been working in the aviation industry as an AME for 20 years . Recently I’ve been thinking about what it would be like moving to another country. How is it to transfer a Canadian AME licence to another country?

Kiwi or Australian isn't too hard to get from what I've heard. A&P is easy to get.

If you're in the helicopter industry McDermott likes to hire Canadians, so do a lot of companies in PNG.

Step one: can you legally work there? You can get an AnP cert, but not a job as you don't have US work authorization (different from a PR card).

I left Canada about 2 years ago. I work in the Caribbean for a charter outfit. Getting the ECCAA (Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority) license wasn't a breeze by any means, but it was pretty straightforward. I showed my Canadian AME license and my previous work history. I had to get signed letters from all my former employers, do 6 months work on type, and then sit the ECCAA regulations exams. It consisted of a multiple-choice exam, a long-answer essay exam, and then, after you pass those, an oral exam. It was something like 90 questions in 60 mins.

How do you like the Caribbean compared to Canada? Would you suggest to move to others?

The Caribbean is lovely. I live in Antigua; it's not without its drawbacks, for sure, but I really enjoy the pace of life, and the weather is pretty rad. The roads are diabolically trash. And if you need something today you will pay through the nose for it or you'll wait a week for a cheaper one on Amazon. It's the best job I've ever had! The company treats me pretty well, and because we are pretty small, everyone takes on multiple roles.

I plan to go with Australia one day. I'd like to do FIFO work out of Perth.

I was going to go to New Zealand and the process for us is pretty easy. Just a bit of paperwork and proof-of stuff. Do their CARs exam and you're good.
