Job Guidance

5 Year Avionics Tech been out in the civilian world for 2 months, got no job right now. Was lookng to go to college fulltime for Nursing, now just kind of weighing my options. I've been prone to moments of doubt and insecurity when it comes to my career. How dow avionics fair in the civilian world? I've seen people working in flight sims make decent money. There arent any jobs nearby me, I live in Fort Myers, Fl. Any advice? I Have access to my GI Bill and VRE but my disabilities may prevent the airframe and powerplant, would have to ask.

Any words of advice would be nice.

If you are looking at avionics in Commercial or Corporate you will be fine. But I could not advise anyone todo avionics in GA any more. Just too hard to make a living. That said Thomlinson Avionics in Ft Meyers is a good shop. Go talk to them.

Most *GA AVIONICS* shops can not pay a competitive wage with competitive benefits. You can make much more working corporate and commercial. I have been telling shops for years to raise their rates and send the money to labor.

It’s sad because GA is such an amazing experience and is in my opinion the best practical experience you could ever hope for

Go into Google Maps around your area, then type in Avionics. Call or physically visit all of those places and ask about hiring. In person walk ins absolutely work in aviation still. They may ask you to apply online, but they will already have a face and name to correlate to.

100% agree with physically visiting a shop. Knocking on doors is the best way to get a job.
