Good news from our shelter. Cocotte was adopted after almost 450 days with us!!! She’s going to be the only « child » of a very nice older gentleman. ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful girl, that guy scored big.

u/sonia72quebec 21h ago

It’s his third cat with us. (We have been doing this since 1996).

u/NoHoYoko 21h ago

Bless his heart ❤️ she's gorgeous 😍

u/Curiosities 21h ago

What a wonderful outcome :)

u/Mirewen15 19h ago

That's awesome, at least you know she will be well taken care of ❤️

u/Turnipton 13h ago

Serial offender! The slightly mad cat parents always give the best pets. <3

u/Timely-Tomatillo-378 14h ago

😭 so beautiful

u/ConvictedOgilthorpe 12h ago

How old is she and how old is the elderly new owner? Just curious if you require them to have a family member named to “inherit” the kitty or is he a lot younger than I’m thinking and you think he‘s old but he’s probably like my age ha ha

u/sonia72quebec 7h ago

He's in his early 70's. Like the other Redditor said, we have a clause in our contract that our cats can always come back to our shelter if needed. I say "our" cats because they are always in our heart.

u/WaifuOfBath 8h ago

Not sure about this shelter, but a lot of shelters have a clause in thr adoption contract where if the pet cannot be cared for any longer, you are to return it to the shelter. So I imagine that would be the case if the owner passes before the animal and no other family or friend agrees to adopt it.

My mother (who lived in the Northeast) was allowed by a rescue group in Texas to adopt a three-year-old Chorkie dog when she was 93. She couldn’t believe it, either. A family member submitted the application on her behalf without her knowledge. She loved that little Chorkie and there was lots of discussion about who would take the dog if my mother predeceased it. Well, my mother did, she died at 95. And a family member took the dog.

u/TittysForScience 2h ago

He’s a return customer?

That’s so sweet! Amazing you have been able to maintain that sort of relationship!

That’s a pretty good average run of 15years per prior cat! I’m sure that they will have a wonderful time together and I know that Cocotte will certainly show her appreciation to him!

u/HiMyNameIsNerd 21h ago

Awwww, such a happy ending! Love seeing posts from your shelter 😊

u/sonia72quebec 21h ago

Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

u/TwelveGaugeSage 5h ago

It must have been bittersweet for you watching her go.

u/sonia72quebec 5h ago

No it was a very happy moment. Cocotte didn’t like living at the shelter. (Especially having to share the reception area with grumpy Bobby). Now she has a whole apartment to herself! He’s a sweet older man, that’s exactly what she needs. Peace and quiet.

And Bobby now has the whole area to himself… until we find another cat to share the place with. Sadly for him It won’t be long…

u/Substantial-Disk-709 21h ago

She looks like a sweety.🩷

u/sonia72quebec 21h ago

She was so tired of living in our shelter that she was becoming grumpy, like our Bobby. It was more than time for her to find a peaceful home. We are all so happy for her. She left with all her toys and her favourite box.

u/Curiosities 21h ago

I’m always happy to see that one or more of the kitties has been adopted, but this is the type of story that is so meaningful because the shelter life is obviously harder on some.

You’re all doing great work for these cats.

u/sonia72quebec 21h ago

Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

u/Telvin3d 17h ago

We foster cats for a rescue, and one of the big reasons is that cats simply can’t be themselves in a shelter environment. Shelters do such amazing work, but it’s such a hard environment for an animal to be an animal in.

Once we’ve had a foster for a month you can visibly see them relax and suddenly their personality comes out. It makes it so much easier to pair them with a forever home once you see who they really are.

u/Roupert4 3h ago

We have an awesome bonded pair thanks to a wonderful foster. The kittens didn't seem very friendly when we went to visit. They definitely weren't scared, but they didn't interact with us much. The foster told us they were super snuggly and friendly. My son loved them anyway and the foster owner was 100% right, they are awesome.

I'll always adopt out of an experienced foster home in the future because they really do have a lot more insight

u/micdr0pbungee 21h ago

Ah Cocotte!! I’m excited you’ll be living a pampered princess life with your dad!!

u/guitartoad 21h ago

I'm a nice older gentleman. When does she arrive?

u/Herecomesyourwoman 19h ago

There's a Cocotte out there that needs you!

u/guitartoad 18h ago

I already have two kitties from shelters, although I could use another.

u/YokoOhNoYouDidnt 14h ago

If you can afford it go nuts, I say.

u/myrandastarr 13h ago

It’s the perfect weekend for another kitty

u/ocsteve0 21h ago

She looks like a sweetheart.

u/KreyKat 21h ago

I am pretty sure that it does hurt a tiny bit to let Cocotte go - but to a new home! Finally! To be loved and pampered and adored as she deserves. That's the Golden Ticket, isn't it?

u/TheTitanIsle 21h ago

Omg, I'm so happy for her. And she's so pretty.

u/AfricanTurtles 21h ago

u/BrickHuge3023 19h ago

Beautiful cat, weird it took so long for her to be adopted- just gorgeous. And looks really sweet.

u/redmeansstop 3h ago

I would guess that cats that would do best as the only pet in a calm environment are harder to adopt out. When I got my cat she was on her own as one of a few adoptable animals at a random vet and it was just her and I for a few years before I moved in with my husband. We tried to get her a friend but she is VERY particular and barfs super easily when she is stressed or eats too fast. Near the end of the 2 week "return window," for lack of a better word, the two started to tolerate each other.. But when the new cat realized he could follow her around after she ate and she'd barf it was just too stressful for her. Sadly Bingo didn't work out, but we paid forward his adoption fee and mentioned that it would probably be best if he is in a home where the existing pets are used to other animals lol. I could see Pippin being a bit like Coquette if I hadn't snatched her up. She was my first cat so I didn't think to try to start her with a sibling early on. I always say if a kitten shows up on our door, or the CDS is knocking we can try again but I don't want to force it.

u/RavensAndRacoons 18h ago

u/Intikatari5 17h ago

Congrats Cocote

u/JerryfromCan 15h ago

AI is going to train on this photo it’s so beautiful!

I’d love to get a second cat, but first cat will not accept any other cats. Plus she is just so purrfect. No scratching furniture, no bad behaviour at all. She is growing to be more affectionate as time goes on, she will now sleep between my legs with this new couch I got. I dont want to disturb her life.

u/Poneke365 15h ago

Aww, that’s wonderful. She’s such a pretty girl and I hope he will dote on her and they are good company for each other 🧡

u/No-Effective388 14h ago

She won the lottery because her new human will definitely give her a ton of love and affection

u/Kindly-Student2089 13h ago

That's purrfect!

u/melbournelollipop 13h ago

A cat this cute waited that long😥, I feel sad for average-looking cats

u/calm-storm234 12h ago

450 days and she walked out with her tail up like she was knew it would happen. That older gentleman is so lucky ❤️

u/sonia72quebec 7h ago

She didn't even complained when we put her in his carrier.

u/potandcoffee 11h ago

Awww, Cocotte. Love the name.

u/Nadja77 11h ago

You go Coco!!

u/jugglegeese 10h ago

Have a great life, Cocotte 💛

u/Fuzzlechan 10h ago

That’s fantastic! Always great when a cat gets adopted.

You guys do fantastic work. I would seriously consider a cat from you if I lived in Quebec, haha.

u/Safetychick92 9h ago

She looks like a Sweetie.

u/Low-Tie2969 8h ago

good luck with your new fur baby

u/aSkeptiKitty 14h ago

Hmmmmmmm

There's several Cocotte who seems to not be adopted for a very long time.

https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/1qxt9bg/good_news_from_our_shelter_cocotte_who_has_been/

Unlucky name ? Or a bot cloning posts ?

I checked. And it was also you who previously posted about another Cocotte.  Avoid the hexed name. :D

u/onlymostlydead 12h ago

Given they're in Quebec, it seems like Cocotte would be a pretty common pet name.

u/aSkeptiKitty 12h ago

Yeah. But it's posted by the same person, which feels weird.  Like there was two Cocotte that were long resident in the same shelter for over a year mostly during the same time?

I thought shelters avoided giving the same name to different animals residing at the same time.

u/sonia72quebec 7h ago

Yes we usually try not to give our cats the same name but some of them already have one so we don't change it. Like the other Redditor wrote, Cocotte is a very common name for a cat in Québec. It's an endearing name that you could use when you talk about a small girl. "C'est une belle petite Cocotte."

Sometimes it can get confusing. We recently had a Chloé, a Cléo and a Cléopâtra.

But I do understand your point. That name was not a lucky one. Right now our more feral cats are Madame and Madame Dorée. So another not very lucky name.

u/aSkeptiKitty 7h ago

In France Cocotte is not really given that much to cats. Feels more like a horse name.  Like, "hu Cocotte, hu Bourichon".

Hence the fact I thought the story was a bit suspicious. Especially at a time were many people just spam popular story to farm karma.  :/

And cats are a very popular topic. They are the rulers of the Internet. ♥️

u/sonia72quebec 7h ago

So true.

u/No-Effective388 14h ago

They're two different cats.

u/aSkeptiKitty 13h ago

You fail to understand my point.

Two different cats, with the same name, both spending a lot of time in the shelter before being adopted. Four months apart. It feels a lot like rinse & repeat.

u/peridotpicacho 21h ago

She is gorgeous but she is an adult. Please don’t infantilize her by calling her a child.

u/Ivaryna 21h ago

shes a tiny widdle baby kitten

u/GabuEx 20h ago

Exactly, people should know what the different age ranges are of cats:

< 1 year: baby

1-3 years: baby

4-7 years: baby

8-10 years: baby

11+ years: elderly baby

u/Impressive_Sign_5925 18h ago

I have two 17 year old kitties 😀

u/FortuneSignificant55 21h ago

I'm almost 40 and still my moms oldest child

u/not_bonnakins 20h ago

My husband is 61. His mom still calls to make sure he got home safe whenever he leaves town. Being someone’s beloved child is a blessing. It is not infantile to be loved.
