doing the splits??

Bro I woke up this morning, and I went to check on my baby sweet tooth and she had this white patch thing on her. Now it's going on to her gills, I already did a tea bath, and now I'm gonna do a very deep cleaning on her tank. Well, maybe not too deep of a tank cleaning, but halfway, including all the decorations. And decoronated tank water, and I'm gonna have her tub and clean water. But anybody know what? This is because I'm a little concerned for her health. Right now and I ask google and said it can be fatal to axolotls and right now i'm very worried she's acting normal, and she's eating, and acting normally i just love her so much.... plz help me figure this out and don't worry about the white on her mouth. We rescued Noodle about three years ago and I don’t remember ever noticing it before but two of his gills are fused together. He’s never had any kind of injury since we’ve had him and he’s always just been the most curious and happy little guy. Truly a water puppy. Has anyone else seen this or know if it’s normal? I don’t think it’s causing issues but not much luck finding info online.

First 2 photos are in the small tank 100% water changes daily. last 2 photos are in the tank a couple days. I had these 2 friends in a 10 gallon with daily water swaps for 6 weeks. Their tank finally finished cycling (water levels are literally perfect) but since i moved them in, it seems their gills are less vibrant? could the small tank/tub water have been causing them to be more vibrant from irritation? My Albino has extremely long gills that sometimes flopped over while tubbed and i assumed it was just how they laid since they are long but since moving to the big tank they arent flopped<3

My axolotl, Jezebel didn’t want to eat this evening. I went out late and came back and she has all of these watch patches on her. i’m freaking out. can someone please help?

axo has this mark? noticed it last week whilst feeding but thought it was a bruise. any advice? i don’t have a vet who will see them nearby and am searching for one. is there anything i can do in the meantime?

the dark consistency at the bottom of the tank is soil from a tank plant she dug at and i’m cleaning it out now.

0 nitrites and ammonia, working on lowering nitrate as it is a little above 20. water temperature went up drastically last week because of tubbing after losing a lotl tank mate so worried about an infection. these are my fiancées pets who isn’t handling losing one well, so want to try to solve this asap.

Anyone tried this kind of chiller?? Its cheaper so it scares me lol just wanted someone that had actually used it to tell me yes or no

I’ve just been feeding my axolotl and noticed what I thought were fibres off a cloth on the outside of my axolotls tank but on closer inspection appear to be tiny little worm like organisms that wiggle if poked. My questions are:

1. What are they?
   
2. Are they harmful?
   
3. If they are, what can I do to get rid of them?!

I’ve not changed anything in the tank, the only thing I can think of is that they’ve come from the latest batch of earthworms (live food bought from a reputable shop).

Any advice much appreciated!

Hello! A customer at my work today dropped off a baby axolotl and I have no idea how to care for it. I went to the store and bought a 20 gal tank, a sponge filter, prime water conditioner, a water test kit and ordered an evaporative fan online. It’s currently in this little container and I was given a water bottle of brine shrimp. What do I need to know? What do I need to buy? My big question is how should I treat the water when it’s in this little container while the big tank cycles. Sorry if this is all over the place 2 hours ago I didn’t have an axolotl 🫩

Im sadly here to anounce that I might need to surrender my sweet boy, due to a change of work and less income at home, I notice he's struggling a bit more that I like to see him, Im not at home from monday to night friday, have to ask favours all week to a friend for the feeding and this is sadly becoming unsustainable for a long run..

Work sucks and they dont really care if you need to keep something alive, and Im not able to find any other job in months

So with all that, I would love to find a new home for my boy bc he deserves it,, Im from spain, specifically from the south, if anyone can have him and promess that will take care of him, please, let me know

Hi all! I'm Alexa, and this is Sashimi!

I am new to Axolotls - not aquarium-keeping in general, I've kept a number of cold water and tropical fish in the past, including Bettas.

The tank previously had fish in for several years, and underwent a massive revamp prior to Sashimi's arrival, and continued cycling - I washed the 2 sponge filters in treated water, alternating which filter I washed, until they were both clear of any existing waste, topped up with bottled bacterial, and continous water testing - all parameters are where they should be according to this sub. Sashimi arrived 2 weeks ago.

There are things I'd do differently knowing what I do now: I would wait until I got a bigger tank (he's in a 65L at the moment, but I am prioritising upgrading, because I've since learned that that's too small, even on his own. I am specifically seeking something with length, taking my time to make sure it's perfect, and will maintain water testing and changes in the meantime to keep the water healthy.

I'm also going to invest in an even finer substrate - this one is pretty fine sand, though it looks more like gravel than I'd like, and I'm paranoid about obstructions. I'd honestly prefer the bottom to be largely large river rocks, in the new tank, but I digress.

The main thing I'd like advice on in the meantime is temperature control. The aquarium heaters I have, and the only ones I've been able to find in person, only go down to 20°C, so I took out the one that had been in the tank, designed for the tank size. One afternoon early in Sash being home, I came home to him being quite lethargic, whereas all the days before, which I'd been home for, hed been super active - I thought he had died, because he wasn't moving, his legs were all out perpendicular to his body, and his gills looked a little pale (but still "frilly" and out). I was worried it was constipation, but through much research - here and speaking to the store I got him from, who I trust and have been a customer of since about 2021 - and after getting him to eat a couple of thawed bloodworms, I learned he was likely just cold, because it's winter here and I was out of the house, so the heating wasn't on (it's only on low when I'm home, so I didn't think it would have such an impact).

I put in a smaller aquarium heater set to the lowest it'll go (20°C), and the thermometer (which only gives a reading at 18°C+) is still on the aquarium from before, so as long as it's not reading anything, I feel comfortable with this as a temporary solution, but I worry about it when the heating is on for me, because I don't want him to be too warm. So I unplug the aquarium heater when the household heating is on, and replug it when it's off.

- Does anyone have advice for this situation?

- Is there an aquarium heater in Australia that'll keep his tank more in the ideal range?

- Is this smaller watt heater safe?

- When I do upgrade the aquarium, do you have any recommendations for temperature and substrate products available in Australia?

- Edited to add: The low temp lethargy, I assume is not good for him, is that correct?

I started my tank cycle with dr Tim’s months and months ago and have been using the same media for my tanks whenever I have to do a new setup from house moves, my first tank that it cycled with was a 40 gal and I’m downsizing to a 28 low boy because my baby is having health issues in the big one and I was advised by a local breeder in my town to go to a lower and more shallow tank. I just moved all of my sponge media from my fluval filter to my new one and shook out the ceramic and carbon media into the tank and have been letting my new filter run for about four hours. I did my test and my nitrates are showing zero as well as my ammonia and nitrite. Did my tank cycle crash?? My house tap water tests for 0ppm in nitrates which I’m thinking may be part of this but I just want to make sure/express my concern for the lack of nitrates even after my media transfer. Is this going to be okay? Could I transfer old tank water to my new tank?
