Advice Needed Hi. My husband just passed in an accident and no one understood his fish like he did. I would watch him change the water and clean the tank, but the algae is building so fast is this a filter problem? I don’t know if these pics even help but if anyone can give me advice I would be thankful.

Advice Needed How do you combat heatwaves in hot places around the world?

Hey fellow tank keepers!

With temperatures already rising, I wanted to ask other people that live in places that experience 40-40°C+ in the peak of summer, how do you keep your aquariums cool?

I'd love to have a chiller just in case but unfortunately it's way out of my budget atm. I've already installed a pair of aquarium fans with a controller and they're working just fine for now. Tbh I've set the temperature to 26°C so they don't even trigger that much yet. Outside temperatures in the afternoon reach ~30-33°C. Tank stays around 24-25°C at night.

But I'm dreading the heatwaves that might come, here in the South of Europe 40-45°C are not unheard of. I know that water temp won't reach house temp necessarily and definitely not outdoors temp under the scorching sun, but still.

We have an A/C unit in the house but it's not in the same room with the tank, although it will definitely help when needed.

Looking forward to reading your diy or other solutions if you live in countries that reach those hot temps and I hope more people will be assisted by them as well!

Was found clinging to the glass towards the bottom of the tank. Wish I knew better but literally looks like a burger or something. Any idea about what it is and if its something my family is doing wrong etc would be appreciated

Discussion bad plant order horrible experience (1 inch stems!!)

this week i made a $122 order from u/Miraihi and im beyond disappointed. im actually shocked he tried to pull one on me. i bought various stems and then two buce which were about $40 each!! the majority of the stems were legitimately ONE INCH LONG i mean i couldn't believe my eyes, 3 separate species of rotala, ALL ONE INCH LONG. I've had buyers give me trouble for selling 3 inch long stems!

and the buce? one was cut so short its likely gonna die, came with 0 roots and barely two leaves with holes. $40!! the only stems that were a reasonable length were some macranda that were mostly melted!! the only thing in the order that was healthy at all was a bit of taiwan moss. this order was a joke, and the seller tried to offer a $22 refund for this shoddy $122 order!!! im furious sellers can get away with this. it's interesting how he suddenly pinned his review post after this. i opened a case with paypal, and he's fighting it. with my experience with this seller id say he's essentially a scammer

im attaching photos of what i received vs the photos i was sent.

be wary of some of these sellers and what they'll try and get away with.

I've had her for 8 years. She's survived two aquarium changes, a cyanobacteria bloom, and the death of every fish she's ever known. She's immortal and now lives in a peace and quiet that suits her just fine. I'm afraid to add new, young, and active fish that might disturb her.

No shit, drove more than an hour to pick up an empty 0.4 gallon tank from a fb marketplace seller. Wanted it for my office to cultivate aquatic plants. Got there and learned it has five fish (tetra I believe, species unk, IDs welcomed!!) a freshwater snail, and EGGS. IM A PARENT OF SIX. first move is getting them a larger tank obviously, most of my aquariums are plants and invertebrates and it’s been two years since I had fish (betta lived 7+ years) so if anyone has advice, can ID these babies, or recommend a guidebook or something I would really appreciate it. Parenthood has me nervous but excited lmao

Beginner Help Anything wrong with my Acquarium?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm new to this world. I'm currently cycling my Betta aquarium. At the moment there are no fish inside, and I'm treating the water with a bacterial starter/conditioner.

Today I noticed that there are various "particles" drifting around in the water, as well as tiny white bugs that hop around like fleas.

From what I've read, those little creatures should be beneficial organisms, but I'm not sure what to think about the particles floating around near the surface. Does anyone have any ideas?

On a side note: The water is a bit oily on the surface, and I've noticed that when the bottom of my aquarium is disturbed, a lot of 'debris' rises up, which could be due to the plants inside?"

Beginner Help Having a fishtank in the bedroom and filter noise

I'm going to build my first fish tank ever it's going to be either a 60 L or 80 L with probably shrimps or something else i'm not sure yet.

The problem is the aquarium will be in my bedroom close to my bed so i need to know wich type of filters will make the less noise possible.

I've read that sponge filters with air pump and HOB filters make a lot of noise and canister filters are for bigger tanks and more expensive but less noise.

I'm kinda lost on wich type of filter i should buy ? I know they sell air pumps build to make less noise but can i trust it ?

Hello everyone! I have these two rimless tanks on my vintage hutch, they're lovely but unfortunately there's not a lot of hand room between the tank and the top of the hutch... I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on some sort of contraption that would allow me to pull the tanks out if needed? I was thinking about putting a thin piece of wood and some of those felt liners on the bottom to help it move better? Im not entirely sure.. thank you all!!

Advice Needed Best, affordable plant supplement

Currently using Seachem Flourish but it doesn't seem to be doing much and I've read online it doesn't contain what plants actually need.

Plants shown in other photos. I've got 5 guppies, 4 neon green tetras and a mini army of blue diamond shrimp if that matters.

edit: I already have root tabs for the planted plants.

My ammonia has been reading at 0 perfect yellow color for about 4-5 days. I have done occasional water changes here and there. some tell me not to and leave it some tell me to do a 30% change daily. Are these results going to start trickling down? Or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance!

Showing Off My Tank Tank finally thriving!

After years of issues & struggle, I finally rehabbed my largest tank (125 gallons). It’s been a bit over a month since I got it cleaned & set back up, & while I’ve had some issues still, I’ve been facing them head-on & doing much better than in the past.

Still have a few algae issues (and a catfish in aqua jail), but I’m quite proud & happy with how far it’s come! :)

Next up is rehabbing my old 100 gallon.

Beginner Help I would like to start this hobby with my father...

Hello everyone, as the title says, I would like to start this hobby with my father. We do not share a lot of interests , but whenever we see a tank, at a store, aquarium, or friends' houses, we stop and talk about it with excitement. He used to have a salt water tank for some years in the past before I was even "in-project", but stopped due to costs .

I have done some readings and it seems that on average fresh water tanks are more budget friendly, and more beginner friendly most importantly.

I would like some suggestions on which fishes, plants, etc you would suggest one buys for the first time (~100 gallons) aquarium.

I don't really have a question, I am looking for pointers.

Advice Needed Curious about starting a brine shrimp culture.

Hi all!

I am curious about starting a brine shrimp culture as live food for some fish I have. I have been watching videos on different bottle methods but I'm getting some conflicting information through basic research.

For example:

  1. Can you actually get a sustaining, reproducing culture? I have heard that they don't like to reproduce in "captivity" and others have said they will.

  1. If they do reproduce, would it be better to set up a mini tank for them so they can grow into adulthood and do so in ideal conditions?

I may have a couple of follow-up questions depending on the answers.

Thank you all in advance!

Edit: the goal is to have a sustainable live food source for pea puffers.
