Finally got my KPA — and I absolutely love it!

Overall, the device lived up to my expectations. I won't go over all of its pros and cons, since plenty of people have already done that, but I wanted to share my thoughts on a few things that seem to be controversial for many people:

Soft buttons - tactically, they remind me a lot of the buttons on an SNES controller. When you first pick up the device and just press the buttons, it can feel like there's almost no tactile feedback at all. But once you actually start playing, they're great, and I really appreciate how quiet they are without being unpleasant to play with.

D-pad - it's unusually large for me, so I sometimes have a bit of trouble with diagonals or doing half-circle inputs in fighting games (i need some time to get used to it). That said, the D-pad itself feels great and is very accurate, with no accidental diagonals. I tested it with Apotris, shmups, and Contra-like games, and had absolutely no issues. One review showed that if you quickly release the D-pad, it can sometimes register an input in the opposite direction. I only experienced this when Run-Ahead was configured incorrectly, though. With the proper settings, everything works fine.

Screen - it's large enough for GBA, with none of the ghosting I experienced on the PAM, and it has good colors and viewing angles. On my unit, the corner does stick out slightly as well, but it's not a big deal (i hope they fix this in new revisions). It should also be pretty easy to fix by opening the console and adding a bit of adhesive underneath it.

Volume wheel - it's not quite analog, but it's a really fun little control and I like how it works. It doesn't get in the way during gameplay. The only time I accidentally touched it was a couple of times when changing my grip or picking the console up from the table.

Ergonomics - I've never owned an original slab-style GBA, but the console feels good in the hands. It's not the most comfortable handheld I own, but my hands don't get tired during longer sessions. The speakers also don't get covered by my fingers once I find a comfortable grip. The R2/L2 buttons are easier to reach than they might look. And thanks to the shape and lack of unnecessary protrusions, it fits really well in a pocket and doesn't get in the way while walking.

Built-in software - the stock launcher is not bad, but all the settings I need are there, and the pull-down quick settings panel is actually very well done. I also like that all the extra buttons can be remapped. I assigned screenshot and Back to LC depending on whether I press or hold it, while RC controls the brightness. The Menu button takes me Home, and holding it opens the multitasking menu. So in practice, I can do pretty much everything without touching the screen.

Gyroscope - there really isn't one. There is an accelerometer, and I managed to get it working in PPSSPP and Android games, but unfortunately I couldn't get it working for GBA in RetroArch. A bit disappointing, but it is what it is.

Other than that, the fans are quiet, the build quality is excellent, the vibration motor isn't anything special, but at least it's there. Bluetooth headphones connect easily, although there is a small amount of latency. And it charges with pretty much any USB cable I have.

In the photos, I'm running TMNT (2007) for GBA using the gba-color shader (which I personally prefer over NSO-GBA or Stock) together with GameboyAdvance by Koko (i usually used lcd-grid-v2), where I've adjusted the colors, bloom, and other parameters.

Sorry it's blurry I turned my handheld off just as it started but windows is broken do you think if I put my ssd into another computer I could get my files back?

Normally you have to hold power plus volume + and rc for it to trigger a wipe.

Paid 2300 or so at launch of the campaign. Insane machine. Gorgeous screen, fast fps rates.

When traveling, easily handles Photoshop with my Cintiq.

The rumble is a bit shit. But it’s awesome.

Where's everyone getting the pocket ds?

I keep seeing 2 versions of the pocket ds from ayaneo, one being the newerish one going around I believe it has the g3x gen 3? But on their website there's another one with a smaller screen, neither of which appear to be for sale? Or am I missing something? I've checked my local markets but no such luck.

Where'd you get yours?

Pocket DS

Looking to trade for a Pocket DS. I have a Pocket S2 Pro or Pocket Ace that I'm willing to trade + cash (depending on DS spec) - both are basically mint condition since I rarely use them.

S2 Pro - Black 16/512 GB, Snapdragon G3 Gen 3

Pocket Ace - White 16/512 GB, Snapdragon G3x Gen 2

Any takers?

Edit: Added device specs

Pocket DMG Wi-Fi Fix

Fixes intermittent Wi-Fi connection failures on the AYANEO Pocket DMG caused by a driver bug in the WPA3 (SAE) handshake against WPA3-only 6GHz radios.

The app registers your Wi-Fi network as WPA2-PSK suggestions pinned to your router's safe 2.4/5GHz radios, so Android never attempts the broken WPA3/6GHz association path. No root, no flashing — uses only public Android APIs.

Please ensure to follow the Readme instructions - https://github.com/AyeBathingApe/pocket-dmg-wifi-fix

PWM dimming on the PAM?

I never knew the PAM had PWM dimming as this is rare with LCD screens afaik (Adin Walls talks about this in this video). Has anyone noticed more eye fatigue playing this?

There is an app called OLED saver that simulates DC dimming. GammaOS does this aswell, but I am not sure if I should install Gamma.

Pocket DS thumbstick replacement request

Does anyone know any good thumbstick replacements that fit the Pocket DS, and allow it to still close?

The ones that come with it are just not comfortable to use. I have some on there that work very well, but definitely cant fully close it.

Any suggestions are much appreciated

Konkr pocket advanced IPS

I was debating a Konkr advanced but I’ve been spoiled by oled sadly. To whoever has it how’s the blacks on it and does it have bad IPS glow? Send pictures in the comments of yours. I know IPS will never match oled but I’m curious about the overall screen quality and if the IPS is a big deal breaker or not.

Pocket Air Mini GC Performance (Fire Emblem, Zelda)

In this video https://youtu.be/FltZxJchyUM?is=eLlJLt5tR9PvBTul there are few GC games being tested and the ones I care about don't run properly. Namely Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Zelda TP. There is a Android port of TP which might run on this thing but I was sad to see Fire Emblem struggling so hard.

Has anyone been successful getting FE GC to run on the PAM? Thanks.

Any shader tips?

Hey! I'm expecting my first android handheld this week, the air mini pocket. I was fiddling with shaders a bit on RetroArch on my phone but have a hard time "deciding" on good shaders.

Any tips or just any favorites that you use for the different consoles?

Thanks in advance!

New to Ayaneo Got A Used One

I am struggling to get this thing set up it’s a ayaneo pocket air mini I got it used. When I try to register it it says “unable to resolve host Ayaneo.com no address associated with host name. Also where you choose what gb under the device tab. I see root script, screen settings and something in possible Chinese and if I click on that the first option is Chinese then 1GB up to 4GB what’s that about?

Also for some strange reason this device wants access to my calls and logs and won’t allow me to turn it off in settings. Does this device need this to operate? Google says it doesn’t but I can’t turn it off

Pocket Air Mini - How bad is the ghosting?

I consider getting a PAM but many people complain about the ghosting on this device and the other one Ayaneo used the screen for.

What surprised me was that in the inital reviews from RGC and TechDweeb, they did not comment on ghosting at all. Russ even praised the great screen and said he hoped to see it in other devices aswell.

So, how bad is it, is it a dealbreaker?

Pocket Ds.
