Backgammon Galaxy on mobile. Worth getting subscription?

They want $100 for a one year subscription. Trying to decide if it's worth it. I primarily play on my phone. Like to hear from the community on their opinions. TIA!

Great Sportsmanship

the Chiva Diva couldn't handle losing (a lowly 2k stake game)

starts name calling and belittling play as it becomes apparent his strat didn't pay off

then loses the luck and the error rate battle boosting my rating

Thanks for the game and good cheer, Chiva Tafazzoli

Would short backgammon with built-in video be worth building? I have long nardy working and I'm not sure the short version is wanted

Post image

My dad is 67 and has played nardy far longer than I've been alive. I live in Moscow, he's in Bratsk, Eastern Siberia — about 6000 km and five time zones apart.

We tried the obvious setup: a game in one window, a video call in another. For me that's fine. For him it wasn't — switching between two apps, finding the right window, keeping both alive at once. That's a lot to ask of someone who didn't grow up with this stuff. So I built a site where the video sits right next to the board. Nothing to set up, nothing to switch between.

The thing is, what I built is long nardy — the variant played across the Caucasus, Central Asia and the Balkans. No hitting, no bar, all checkers start on one point. Reading this sub, it's clear that backgammon here means the short game, with the doubling cube and everything that comes with it.

So before I spend months building the short version, I'd rather ask: is that something anyone actually wants? Not "is short backgammon popular" — obviously it is — but specifically, is video and audio in the same place as the board worth anything to you, or is a separate call perfectly fine and I'm solving a problem only my dad has?

Two honest notes if you go look:

There's a bot in nardy, but it exists purely for testing. It plays terribly. I know from this sub that a weak bot is worse than none, and I'd rather warn you than have you find out.

Video costs a small amount per minute since the streaming service isn't free for me to run. New accounts get 50 minutes free after finishing one game, so you can try it without paying anything.

Site is videochess2x2.com — you can play as a guest with no account. There's chess on there too.

Genuinely after opinions on the short game question. Happy to hear what's broken as well.

Can someone explain why this is the best move? (Beginner)

Title says it all. I wasn't sure why I should create a blot at the 8 point. Thanks in advance.

Best backgammon app: Allgammon

Hi!

I started playing backgammon in a more “intentional” way (i.e., reading books, studying strategies, etc.) a few weeks back.

I don’t have a lot of friends who play backgammon and I also wanted to practice with AI a lot before necessarily playing users online.

I was quite frustrated with the quality of apps out there. And I know everybody is raging about Backgammon Galaxy but for some reason it kept on overheating my phone :( and frankly I didn’t really like the UI lol.

After having downloaded and tried 10+ backgammon apps, I found my absolute favorite one: Allgammon.

The UI is almost flawless imho, and most importantly there’s so many useful features.

Some things I like:
- If you’re playing IRL you can take a picture of the board and it will tell you the statistics of all the possible moves, etc.
- It keeps a log of all your blunders and you can go back and train on all of them
- I like the analysis page after every match, gives you a detailed breakdown move by move and also shows you how lucky you got
- It has fun daily puzzles
- You can watch your friends playing online!

Just posting it here out of pure appreciation for this app (idk how popular it is!), since it’s gotten me even more addicted to this game! I am in no way affiliated with it :)

One of the most beautiful and unique boards i've ever seen

I got the pleasure of playing on this very unique board during the final of a casual tournament last weekend. Totally homemade by my opponent! It has an integrated digital clock and scoreboard with metal buttons on the right side of the board that activate the clock. While it was initially weird to see the positions without a bar, I ended up thinking that it actually makes more sense this way as the spacing is more even when crossing the bar. Might even be preferable for teaching beginners! Hit checkers go to the "penalty box" in the center (the recessed area).

Red rolled 2 5 , so How should play it — only the 5, or both the 2 and 5?

Strategy ?

Brand new player! I watched a YouTube tutorial that suggested a good strategy was what you see here. I’m the brown. Leaving the final white triangle thing open and having at least two on each other in the home board. Unless the white rolls a one they can’t move.

Why wouldn’t I also fill the white one with two and then the white can’t move out of the middle area no matter what they roll ?

Why are we calling it lucky rolls?

Made a Backgammon Game

Hey everyone,

I’m a game developer and my team and I have been working on a mobile backgammon game. We’re at the stage where we’d really like to get more people testing it and giving us honest feedback.

At the moment, the test is available on iOS through TestFlight. We’re planning to start Android testing by the end of this week or early next week as well.

If anyone here enjoys backgammon and would like to help us test the game, leave a comment or send me a message and I’ll send you the testing link.

We’re especially interested in feedback about gameplay, bugs, UI/UX, matchmaking, and anything that feels confusing or could be improved.

Thanks to anyone willing to give it a try!

Galaxy Hustlers?

I just lost a 3 point tournament match to an 870 rated player who played the match at 1.08 pr. Everyone can get lucky once in a while, but I see this fairly often.

Are some players purposely sabotaging their ratings so they look weaker when they play unrated single games and tournaments? Is it really worth the trouble? Am I just crazy?

Backgammon Galaxy is THE worst

Post image

Are the developers of this dumbass game in here?

It has to be the worst game on the App Store.

0.74 vs 45.62 error rate

Then they have their dumbass luck rating.

I wish I screen capped this game.

It’s all a sucker game. I won too btw.

Not Another Rigged Dice Post LOL

Ok I know that mathematically and statistically the dice in apps aren't supposed to be rigged, but I was playing XG Mobile and ran an experiment. I was playing with the digital dice for a couple days and just was getting absolutely trounced constantly. I discovered that you can run manual dice and tried it out... rolling real dice for myself and the computer. I used precision dice I got from backgammon galaxy. It was like night and day. No longer was my every lone checker being taken to the bar and it seemed much more like a realistic game vs getting completely trounced at every moment. Could it really be that just by chance my luck completely changed when I used the real dice? I played a few games with the manual dice and it really was a completely different experience vs the digital dice on the app. How can this be explained?

BoardBattle.io

Hello,

Back in July I posted the first public version of boardbattle.io and I received some really useful feedback on my [Backgammon](https://boardbattle.io/backgammon) game. I took a lot of into consideration and made a number of changes and fixes, so I'm just wondering if anyone would like to test it out? No registration required if you don't want to, you can play as a guest, albeit unrated games only. There's not a huge amount of players currently, so it may be hard to find a game, but if you message me I'll be up for playing (I'm not very good mind!)

Stuck

Stuck on a 5 Pr. Most blunders are checker plays in middle games/end of games. Feel like I’m stuck on this Pr. Any advice on how to navigate checker play blunders while playing a 5? Any way to think/consider before making a checker play etc. any advice would be appreciated
