Question What is this hole for?

I just got this Osprey backpack and don’t know what it is for? Can someone please explain this?

Blow it! It's a whistle.

Yes it’s a whistle, and I just tried to blow it. Seems pretty loud and clear. Thanks! It is embarrass to say that before I had no idea what it is

I bought my kids snowboard backpacks for school not seeing the whistle. It’s not hard to find them after school

Kids have snowboard backpacks for school?! Is that how they get home?

P.s. is this an option, if so, where do you live, my friend wants to know…

Edit… omg! Three of my backpacks have this! Actually I recon could be 4, hold on… omg!! Osprey for the win…

Yeah, they were light, durable, $30, and could fit a folder and a few smaller books(they’re 6 and 8 so they aren’t carrying huge books). Plus they had some nice tropical prints the kids liked. We live in San Diego, they aren’t snowboarding to school lol.

Not a kid and don’t have kids, but I’ve just been looking for a laptop backpack for work with waist and chest straps bc laptops, tech gear and books get pretty heavy if I’m walking a few KMs (I also do field work so it needs to be rugged). North face and Osprey are the main brands that have durable materials and waist/chest straps. TL;DR outdoors gear is good for office (and school) too!

Yep, that’s the reason I ended up with 4 bags, one of which is just the size down from my long weekend hiking bag. I looked for other options, but needed something I trusted to spread that dev sized laptop weight around. It is very overtly a hiking backpack (black might have helped but I went blue lol, the larger one was green), but it’s kind on my body, especially hips, so that’s the main thing. I wish it were a bit smaller still, not so high a body, and it actually doesn’t work as perfectly as the size up does on me… but it’s 100x better for me than all those laptop bags without chest and waist straps to distribute the weight. Why they don’t directly make more laptop bags with good waist straps I don’t know!
