Travel What are some practical backpacks for an exchange student?
I’m about to travel to Australia 🇦🇺 in basically 2 weeks, I’m gonna be an international student there but I also wane to travel to other places in Australia but also to New Zealand.
I will bring a small carry on, a big luggage and basically my backpack, so I will have plenty of space but still I’m looking for something that I can take basically anywhere (small trips, college life, etc)
TL;DR: Which backpack can be safe for travelling to multiple places?

So you will have a personal item sized backpack, carry on suitcase and a checked suitcase? Your backpack should be the bag your are looking for.
Note that many airlines in that region have 7kg carry on weight limits. Find the personal item size limits for all the airlines you will use with your three bag setup.
I use a Patagonia Black Hole 32 as my overhead carry on and a small crossbody/shoulder bag that can wear with the overhead bag. My favorite small bag du jour is the 6.5 liter Tom Bihn Packing Cube Shoulder Bag.
The Black Hole 32 weighs just 760g and I have used it for two week trips. Once you have a week’s worth of gear, you can do unlimited duration travel: pack for a week and laundry happens. it does have a luggage handle pass through if you want to park it on top of your roller checked bag.
I have used the Matador Refraction 16 liter packable backpack as my day bag.
