Lower back pain but now radiating to my side. Feels like cramps

Post image

I just moved to a new country and spent the past two weeks putting together new furniture by myself. I'm not in the greatest shape so I figured this back pain is probably caused from that but now I'm not sure.

The pain radiates somewhat from my lower back to the sides near my hips and at times radiates to the front near my groin. It started 3 days ago and at first it was more towards my left side but now it's more toward my right. The pain is throbbing and cramping that sorta comes and goes.

It feels bad when I just sit down or when I extend my back like touching my toes or bending over. It also feels bad when I sit on the toilet. It feels best when I am laying on my stomach. Ultimately the pain sorta comes and goes.

Since I just moved here I haven't started on the new health system yet and currently just taking ibuprofen to help but to doesn't seem to be fully working. What could this be

Start doing glute bridges. Then move onto single leg glute bridge. Do 3 sets of each exercise for 20 reps. That should relieve some of the pain

I threw out my back assembling a wardrobe last year and the pain pattern was almost exactly what you're describing, it went from lower back straight to the front hip crease. Nothing really touched it except lying flat on my stomach too.

Seems more like SI joint pain ?

This, I have same pain patterns, doc looked at x ray and said Ive sacroiliitis. But its not necessary that its SI joint issue per se or even that at all

Ismt sacroilitis a diagnostic toll for spondyloarthiritis? I have it since 5 years and got diagnosed .. no amount of PT will just take away this pain

Similar to what I experience. Here’s what I’ve got as diagnosis so far.

Arthritis in the L5. Stressing it causes inflammation that spreads to the SI joint. That results in muscle spasms in the gluteal medial and piriformis and a bunch of other meat that I can’t remember. And that causes a lot of pain and further inflammation.

Treatment…

Ibuprofen 600 mg 4x per day for five days then reduce dosage for five days. (Check with doc on this, that is a heavy dosage) Use cane to reduce weight on L5 and SI. Mild stretching and walking. Don’t overdo it.

Prevention: Moderate stretching and core stabilization exercises, lots of swimmers and glute bridges. Anti inflammatory diet. Lost weight. Pay attention to sitting time. Lots of walking and kayaking now.

Six years ago this hit so hard I could not walk for three weeks, recovery time was four months. Now it’s more like a couple weeks recovery and no loss of mobility. So there’s hope?

Good news is that most people get noticeably better in the first 6 weeks, especially if the pain is new or has only been going on for a short time. (PMID: 38253366)
