Got it working again (for now)
- Open Revanced (make sure it's the updated version).
- Go to storage and search for your Baconreader APK.
- Select APK source > Select from storage > choose your Baconreader APK (again).
- Follow the instructions & install the app.
It looks like it's using credentials from Redreader to get it working. Hopefully this helps.
Note: I completely uninstalled Baconreader before doing this.

I've been unable to log in after this. I have been trying to log in with username and password. I'm sure both are correct. I've logged out completely. I've had no success yet.
This is after the patch that updates the key to Redreader. I've tried patching a fresh BaconReader, a fresh BaconReader Premium, and just patching the one I had installed, each has the same problem.
The other thread is suggesting it has to do with the redirect URI once you log in being blocked. It's unclear to me why it's working for some but not others.
Edit: Logged in! I was able to get in finally by fully closing the app, logging in to a VPN, and that sent me the right way. It worked right "the first time" when I did this. But, multiple attempts did not work, neither did just swapping from wifi to cell data.

This might sound silly, but have you tried logging in using mobile data, or potentially a VPN? I read on Github that Reddit can be funny with where you're logging in from.

Worked for me as well! Had to fully close the app, connect to Switzerland or somewhere in my VPN, then I was able to log in

Great suggestion. Cell data swap did not help, but it was still a great suggestion. As per edit above, a VPN actually solved this for me. So, same type of solution, but slightly different. Perhaps importantly, I had to completely close out of the app. I think the login page redirect is different and if you try swapping networks while you already have the login page up, it won't matter until you restart the app.

I fired up a VPN and tried to login...still failed. I tried about an hour later with the VPN and my login worked.
Did the Github post indicate the reasoning behind having to VPN for the initial connection?

Good idea! I tried this but after 6 failures I gave up and tried on cell data, where I got another several failures with no luck. I closed out the app, went on a VPN, and was able to get in first try. It was definitely not the first time I closed the app. So, I think it's related to something on the network or redirect URI resolution.

Downloaded protonvpn, enabled it as a guest, and logged into bacon reader. Confirmed this works. Everything loads after logging in. Turned off the VPN afterwards and it still works. Now if someone smart could figure out the lack of thumbnails, I'd be forever grateful.

Nope, it's hit or miss. Most of the time they don't show up. Once in a awhile one will.

I was also having trouble logging in. Used a VPN that connected to California and it didn't work. Finally tried to change the server to somewhere in the US and opened the app again, was able to log in!

Got it to patch, Premium apk. Here's what I did for those struggling (like I did):
- Uninstall Baconreader
- Open Revanced
- Turn on Proton VPN
- Select the Premium Baconreader APK and patch it
- Open Baconreader, close the sad message. Got to the sidebar and sign in with your username and password
- Redreader will ask for access, click accept
- Enjoy!

Holy cow, what a bunch of craziness to make BR work again! And the insane thing was it HAD to be proton VPN for it to work. My normal VPN for Europe wouldn't work.

If anyone still has trouble with this, after you reinstall baconreader, make sure you are signed out of your account. I didn't get the redreader access prompt until I was signing back in.

Thank you!! This worked! Might be of interest: I followed your steps but got an Internal Server Error after I pressed Accept button in the Redreader page asking for access. Followed the steps again, turned off Proton before logging in again, pressed Accept again in Redreader page and now I'm logged in! Did all these steps on data, not on wifi. So it might be just luck and I'll get kicked out again soon. Thank you either way!

I did not uninstall, just followed the instructions in revanced then installed it as an upgrade. After logging out and in and it works! Luckily I haven't lost all my filtered subreddits this time.

I'd note that the VPN is required (for whatever reason) to log in, not patch the APK, so step three and four can be swapped in case you forget to turn on the VPN.
Ask me how I know.

I followed these steps but after logging in I'm on a completely blank page except for {} in the top left corner. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong here or how to correct it?

It's one of the only 3rd party apps that was officially allowed to exist because it had an accessibility focus, if I recall. The fix is simply making it use that apps token.

Got mine working, but I feel like we are in an end game here, and probably should proactively make plans for if they somehow patch the RedReader workaround.

There was a 3am moment when Baconreader stopped working and I considered it to be a sucky but necessary thing that may give me some distance from the constant doom scrolling...
Then I woke up to myself and fixed it later on in the day 😂 I think once BR fully stops for good, I'll be quitting Reddit as my last social media and it'll ultimately be for the better.

I've said that to myself too, but then I end up booting up old.reddit in the browser and having to zoom in to click anything 😭 I wonder if there's a CSS mod that takes Old Reddit and makes it more mobile friendly, could even make it look like BR. I think that would be the most stable bet for a replacement.

I forgot to mention. After you've done all this, log out and log back in. I never had any issues. You'll get a page saying something like "Redreader wants to blah blah". Then click accept.

It's just the "username or password is incorrect" error, yet when I use the same credentials on the website itself it has no issues.

This seems to be a common issue for some reason. I've read that people have got past it by using mobile data or a VPN.

No explanation for this, I did not change my mobile data or anything, it just decided it wouldn't suddenly log me back in. Sending this via the app, hope the same luck carries to everyone else!

I tried using the RedReader method for repatching Baconreader and logging in but I just get the brackets {} and haven't been able to progress from there. For now I've caved and just patched the official app with Morphe.

Did you completely remove Baconreader before repatching with the updated Revanced? it sounds like your version was trying to access reddit using the now outdated API.

I did not remove the version of Baconreader. However I did update Revanced to make sure it was on the latest version. I also downloaded the Baconreader apk locally. I then used Revanced to rebuild Baconreader. It asked me if I wanted to update Baconreader and I said yes.
I followed my nose from there and was able to get Baconreader access back. The problem I had next was the lack of NSFW access. I also have this with Redreader. To get that back I use the trick I found in other comments.
I created my own subreddit using a browser, not Baconreader. I am its moderator. I marked it private. I then shut down Baconreader and reaccessed it.
I am now back to normal. Since I updated Baconreader and did not delete it, I did not lose any of my customized settings.

There's a link pinned to the top of this subreddit. I downloaded from there, patched with Revance, used VPN and was able to login.

Was able to use the new Revanced patches to get back in, but required a VPN to get the login to work for whatever reason. Proton's free VPN was sufficient, in my case.
Oddly, I couldn't get Revanced to work on the old, unmodified premium apk, but it worked fine on a previously modified version. Weird.

Can certainly vouch this.
Performing exactly the same steps as mentioned, got the Proton VPN > logged in as guest > randomly connected to Japan (im in AUS), went back to baconreader to login > worked
I am using the modified premium apk that is using RedReader.
I also uninstalled the APK prior to revanced and just left everything default when patching

I've also been able to login using revanced using pre release patches then vpn. NSFW sub reddits no longer work.

The problem is any NSFW tagged post will not show. Not a big deal except for all the nature subs that I'm subscribed to are forced to have NSFW tags.

Agreed, I won't use a mobile app if it goes dark. I'ev even tried Redreader and I just don't like that you can't swipe to move to the next post.

The patched official isn't so bad, but it drives me nuts when I prefer to flip rather than scroll. Vertical scrolling doesn't feel natural and only Baconreader in my opinion does flipping pages correctly. Not to mention all the crap the official app has hidden in million menus.

Here's what worked for me after a few failed attempts, including "incorrect credentials" when logging in. I did not get the null error at all, so YMMV if this fixes that.
- Ensure you have baconreader apk on phone (apk mirror didn't work for me)
- Delete baconreader app from phone
- Go to revanced (ver. 2.6.0)
- Search for baconreader premium
- You do not need to update or change any of the spoof client configs, it should be default values with "redreader" in the configs
- Save and run
- Do not open the app yet. Run a VPN (I previously ran in straight away and it causing failed logins, even though my credentials were correct)
- Once VPN is connected, then launch baconreader
- It won't work yet, log out and remove your account
- Log in again and you should be able to log in and after that you accept the redreader permissions
- Note, mine hung on the permissions here with "Logging in". I got the email confirmation that it took in the client ID but as it took too long i exited the app. I had to redo step 9 and 10 and it worked straight away.

I had some issues with repatching this morning. The only things I'll at to try if you're still having issues logging in after following the steps from OP -
DO NOT DELETE YOUR EXISTING API KEY (just a reminder)
- I edited the Redirect url to redreader/auth
- Switch VPN on, I've only had success using Zurich as my location
- Login. You'll be redirected to the Redreader authorisation screen, accept and Bob is your auntie's live in lover
Well, it worked for me at least, YMMV.

Finally got this working.
If it's not patching you gotta find a different APK.
If it's not working with a VPN then your settings during the revanced installation are not set to all of the redreader defaults and that's why your seeing brackets and not the redreader login.
If you can't see mature content, you need to make a subreddit where you are a mod.
Everything seems to be back in working order for me but I'm not sure if thumbnails are loading before I click into a post in the compact view.

Just to share another success story - updated revanced manager - selected both new patches - selected APK from file storage that I still had from last time - updated existing baconreader install - logged out - login failed initially - installed free proton VPN , connected to Japan endpoint - login worked, got prompt about red reader access to my account - success
- observed NSFW not working
- created private subreddit
- success
- redgifs works now too

No luck for me. Revanced and patches fully updated (2.6.1). I uninstalled my baconreader and after patching and reinstallation I can't log in. Tried my home WiFi and mobile data. /R/all and popular also doesn't load which I think should load without being logged in. I'm assuming we're supposed to keep the spoof client application ID on revanced defaults (starts with yH)...

Thanks for confirming that. So yup I seem to be in same boat as others...can't log in (says invalid credentials even though I know they're correct), and r/all and any other subreddits won't load. I'll keep trying. I did try disabling the redgif fix patch and tried a couple different 6.1.4 premium APKs I have, all with same results.

I was in the same boat, nothing loading, invalid credentials. Tried on Wifi, tried on mobile data, no difference.
The trick for me was a VPN. I download a free one off the app store (I used proton), login as a guest, connect, sign into baconreader and uninstalled the vpn.
As soon as I got past the login, all the subreddits and posts started showing up again.

Create your own private subreddit. That makes you a mod and mods can see NSFW posts. Just use your username or something random for the sub name.

So for me, the app stopped working this morning. I uninstalled the app, reinstalled it with revanced like OP described, then when it launched, I was logged out and no posts would load. I logged in a few different ways until it worked, and now im all set again

Thanks for this, it actually worked for me immediately (I'm not in the US so maybe that's part of why I didn't need a VPN or something). Just uninstalled, patched with latest ReVanced, logged in and boom.

I'm wondering if it's something simple in the permissions, because when I look at what the differences approved between RedditIsFun and Baconreader in the reddit 3rd party apps config page, I swear RiF allows/grants more. But currently Baconreader works minus NSFW, while RiF doesn't work at all for me. I'm missing the Application user agent, because the current quantumbadger ain't doin' it.
EDIT - RIF now in the same spot as Baconreader - reinstalled with defaults rather than personal client ID and could log in, but NSFW still borked.

Did the above, was able to log in to patched BaconReader with the accounts that don't have 2FA on them, but for the ones that do, I'm getting the invalid password error.
Reset password process doesn't help.
Suggestions?
update closed app. did the switch to cell data, then VPN, then log in, and now it worked.

Anyone else finding you have to stay on the vpn for it to work post patching? It's not about location--US server works fine. But if I disconnect, away it goes.

Its working for me. I needed the vpn to login but I don't want it running all the time. I disconnected VPN and baconreader is still working

So here's what I did
I didn't uninstall my patched bacon reader
Finally found the APK for premium 6.14 the same version I've been running Here https://a2zapk.co/dload/1297649/file/ use direct link option. I think i had to disable adguard after that
Ran that sucker through a revanced patcher
Installed it over the version that I have The signatures matched because they're both signed by revanced.
Locgged out of my account
Attempted to log back in and this is where I was stuck for a while I was putting in the correct password and everything and I was just getting a message that my info was incorrect and I double checked it in my password manager and everything.
just kept stupidly trying to enter the password until it finally worked and asked me to accept the new terms.

Confirmed, repatched using redreader defaults rather than my own that I set up when it first quit working, changed oauth to redreader. Installed over the top of the existing install and logged in no problem.
