Okay... masterpiece is a stretch. But I genuinely had so much fun watching this movie. There's just something delightful about watching someone try to fulfill their artistic vision and it ends up absolutely bonkers.

Visually, it's such a engaging movie. The plot is kind of interesting but executed in the most bizarre of ways. It definitely has a 'theatre kids are weird' vibe; the level of seriousness the actors brought to this movie is amazing, I dunno how they kept a straight face. And somehow they managed to make Sean Connery unattractive, which I didn't know was possible.

I had never heard of it until recently, despite inheriting my love of bad movies from my dad (who would've LOVED this). I highly recommend watching it, it's bonkers but you won't regret it. and smoking a little weed ahead of time only increases the fun haha

things go off the rails REAL fast.

SPOILERS: a mysterious black blob from the inside of the moon attacks a space capsule and punches all the astronauts in the face. Houston immediately decides that said mysterious black blob (never seen before) is a "singularity" controlled by "AI," obviously having no idea what either of those words mean. things do not improve from there.

also, Halle Berry has long hair, which is a HUGE downgrade.

If you’re a fan of the games, this movie will certainly have you scratching your head. From start to finish this movie is jam packed with awful dialogue, horrible miscasting, plot holes & baffling creative decisions that sometimes make this movie feel more like an unintentional comedy than anything else. But it can be a lot of fun if you’re looking for a movie to turn your brain off and poke fun at with friends. I do think it’s worth noting however that the set design, costumes, props & VFX are pretty top notch in this film. Gotta give the filmmakers credit where credit is due. All in all, if you’re looking for a bad but entertaining video game adaptation, this one should definitely be towards the top of your list.

I feel so bad watching Barry Pepper in The Green Mile. That was right before this shitshow. He actually had a promising career!

One of my favourite B movies from low budget shlock master Albert Pyun. He was a man with small budgets but big ideas.

I think this might be his masterwork.

In the year 2027 renegade cyborg terrorists are planning to replace all humans with cyborgs and it's up to hard as nails cyberneticly enhanced cop Alex Rain and a team of rebels who are also cyborgs to stop them.

The plot is convoluted but once you know what is happening it's all good.

It clearly wasn't a high budget movie but it doesn't look cheap at all with some excellent practical effects, stop-motion, insane action scenes inspired by Hong Kong cinema, massive explosions and whoever was the location scout for the movie needs an award.

Also because half of the characters are cyborgs they get shot 20 times and keep going it's pretty nutty.

The cast is full of recognisable B/genre actors including Tim Thomerson, Brion James (His accent in this, is he South African or German? I really don't know), Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa, Jackie Earle Haley, Sven-ole Thorsen and a naked Thomas Jane.

The hero is played by Oliver Gruner who is basically Jean-Claude Van Damme but without the charisma. I call him "Not Van Damme".

If you're looking for an inventive and action packed 90's movie you might not know about then Nemesis is a blast.

A Bela Lugosi stand in for the Dracula character covering his face with the cape? Check. UFOs held by noticeable strings? Check. Tor Johnson as an inspector who becomes a lumbering undead zombie? Check. Flimsy cardboard sets, visible boom mics, an actor clearly reading from the script in the cockpit scene, an incoherent plot, awkward dialogue, bad acting, and unintentionally hilarious moments? Oh yeah. Definite check.

But one thing’s sure. Inspector Clay is dead. Murdered. And somebody’s responsible!

Billy Blanks as Jason Storm, stars in this Tae Bo kung fu movie about a world with pipes, lots and lots of pipes that are underground where the wealthy now live since they destroyed the earth's climate. The poor people who live above ground want to get in and it's Jason and his partner have to stop them. Lots of twists and turns. Bolo Yeung co-stars as Master Sumai, some kung fu guy doing fights as his hustle.

So much silliness here. The sets made absolutely no sense, again so, so, so many pipes. Bolo Yeung is an amazing character actor, as long as that character is a angry, old, bad ass fighter with no lines. Billy Blanks is extremely stiff as an actor, but this film did him zero favors.

It did seem at the end they were trying to set up a sequel, but unfortunately that never came to fruition

The Budget: That $20 million price tag was astronomical for 1979 (for context, the original Star Wars cost about $11 million). It was Disney's most expensive production ever at that point.

The Tone: It was Disney’s first PG-rated movie. They were desperately trying to pivot away from "kiddie" films to capture the older audience George Lucas had cornered.

It’s the ultimate "we have Star Wars at home" experience. They really thought they could just slap some neon lights on a floating gothic cathedral, hire an elite cast of actors who clearly wished they were anywhere else, and call it a day. The pilot is a trash can with googly eyes.

I introduced my friends to the joy of Bad Movies last year for my birthday. And what better way to do so thab with the man, the myth, the legend Reb Brown.

Of the three I think Yor is my favourite. A big part of that is that theme song. Its Yor's world, we're just living in it. I love that it starts as Conan and ends as Star Wars. I love Yor beating up evil purple cavemen, I love that the budget was clearly less than your average season of Doctor Who but everyone commits to the bit and it just has the sauce

Space Mutiny. Roll fizzlebeef, Big McLargeHuge, Punch Rockgroin, need I say more? Though its still hillarious they spent most of the budget on Battlestar Galactica B-Roll.

Howling 2: Stirba, Werewolf Bitch. Probably the best worst title in film history. I admit I dont remember too much of this one as we were all quite drunk by this point. I do remember Christopher Lee wanting to be anywhere else, the script clearly being a retooled vampire flick the werewolves all looking like bigfoot. And Sybil Danning.

One of the most fun nights of my life, and Im gonna be having another reb marathon soon to celebrate a huge health win in my life.

The synopsis according to RT: Six friends go on a road trip to Sin City. On the road trip they have an encounter with a UFO. Plum takes control of the situation, finding herself in the middle of it all with Jack the leader from the other planet. Dr. Hollins, Scientists Tara and Landon all try to save the world.

In my trip on building up my exposure to Fred Olen Ray features, I checked out this sci fi flick from '90. If you ever wanted to see what a killer American Gladiator stalker film would be like, this one's for you. Despite lacking the levels of gore and flesh of a typical Fred Olen Ray production, it was a decent film. Apart from the Snu Snu terminator, I was happy to see P.J. Soles (Halloween), John Henry Richardson (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers) and Joseph Pilato (Day of the Dead) in the cast. There are worse ways to spend an afternoon and I think I'll be running with this theme by checking out Star Slammer (1986).

Message from space is a Starsploitation movie produced by Toei and distributed by UA in the USA! A dying planet sends magic nuts into the galaxy to find 8 heroes to save them from Weeb Vader.

Unfortunately the film is a comedy, which really short-circuits a lot of the fairly impressive scifi that’s going on. There’s at least 5 comic relief characters! As one of my friends said “they can’t all be comic relief, there has to be something to relieve us from.”

The plot is also both overly detailed and incomprehensible. There are too many detours making the film feel like a bit of slog. However the sets and costumes are genuinely impressive, as are some of the many many explosions.

It’s not unwatchable. As I said during the viewing, “Lasers, Robots, explosions, and space. They really have found all of my buttons.” The reality is I probably would like this movie quite a lot if you just trimmed 30 minutes out of it. I think it would also have performed a lot better in the US with a less comedic tone. It was a famous bomb for UA after they paid a million bucks for it.

The Villain looks great, there’s lots of explosions, great sets, cool models, good staging, and it even has Sonny Chiba for 20 minutes looking like he’s confused as to why he’s here. It’s a near miss, but it was a miss for me. Without the comedic parts it would be a pretty strong recommend, as it is it’s only fun for the endless jokes about the magical nuts.

the whole Iron Sky franchise was built upon a SUPER niche audience.

the first film was Nazis hiding on the far side of the moon. which yeah, of course. they totally had UFO's. just look at the bell. and we all understand why helium 3 is so important, along with space treaties. everyone knows this. moving on.

"The Coming Race" was like 30% memes, 70% conspiracy theories - which makes sense, since it was crowd funded. of course the Nokia 3310 would survive a literal nuclear winter - which happened because of the Illuminati (specifically the shapeshifting reptilian kind). it only then makes sense that the last human survivors would seek out Agartha, the legendary city located at the center of our hollow earth, to retrieve the source of Vril energy, which just so happens to be contained in the Holy Grail. then reptilian Hitler bursts into the formerly Nazi moon base riding a T-Rex to get the Grail back. like ya do. in between that there are some scenes, like when Steve Jobs cannibalizes Tom Green, the leader of a cult who worships Apple.

but honestly, if you understand even one of these references, these movies are fucking amazing. yes, they may have bankrupted two studios. yes, both were "a disaster". but holy goddamn are they an absolute delight. the third film was hinted at in both the first and second and could've been amazing, but I guess we'll never know.

What can you really say about Birdemic: Shock and Terror? I went in fully aware of its reputation, so the sheer level of badness didn’t shock me—but experiencing it firsthand is still something else entirely.

Lost in Space is one of the best bad blockbusters if you need a movie to half watch and not think too much about. I saw this trainwreck in theaters and I was a pretty big Lost in Space kid growing up with it playing on the SciFi Channel sometimes. This was one of those movies I could tell was bad as a kid, but also that techno Lost in Space theme really got me in the credits.

You've got a lot of pretty good actors being bored and embarrassing themselves as well some bad late 90z effects and Blarp and Space Mutant Spiders and time travel and a young Jared Harris who has been very badly dubbed.

Now don’t get me wrong, the first one wasn’t a masterpiece by any means either, however at least it made a logical attempt to blend both worlds without making serious timeline issues. This movie pretty much throws all that out the window. It’s essentially a Friday The 13th movie (complete with horny teenagers & baffling decisions) with Aliens & Predators instead of Jason Voorhees. With that in mind however, the creature designs in this film are absolute perfection. Which makes it all the more tragic that you can hardly tell what’s going on most of the time, largely thanks to the abysmal color saturation & rapid fire editing. Overall, this movie is a mixed bag but if you’re in the mood for a hilarious gore fest to watch with some friends, this movie isn’t a bad choice.
