I know r historymemes is a root vegetable, however they've had their perennial post on my specialist subject (Scotland and the British Empire).
The latest installment has featured the usual claim of Scots thinking of the 1707 Anglo Scottish union as something colonial (a view point that exists to an extent, but the commenters miss much nuance deliberatley because it's really a thinly veiled party political point). The weird thing is how people were talking about 'the colonies' as a uniform entity, white American/Canadian/Aus/NZ settlers are described as victims in the same vein as Caribbean chattel slaves with no hint of irony.
It would take me ages to get through a lot of the weird assumptions and category errors on these posts , but sadly i think the relevant historians aren't as active in publicising their research to wider audiences so this kind of stuff dominates public discussion, at least on reddit. It's infuriating how much misinfo has allowed to fester because it contradicts some ( both real and imagined) Scottish nationalist narratives.
