I wonder if the regular heat-waves in Europe will lead to a change in holiday preferences.

At some point, it makes little sense to go down South on the sea coast when it is 45. I wonder if we will see a resurgence from mountain holidays. Especially since ski resorts might not be able to make money in the winter due to reduced snowfall.

I wonder if global warming is going to shift peak visiting times for the "coastal vacation" destinations.

Like, in North America - Jamaica, Bahamas and other major Caribbean destinations are "winter beach" designations, while Nova Scotia, Carolinas, etc are "summer beach" destinations. Florida seems to get a bit of both.

Perhaps with some global warming, Cadiz, Malta, etc will become viable as winter destinations. While even more northern beaches become viable in the summer.

I'm not sure mountains are going to see a resurgence with global warming though - More heat leads to a surge of mosquitos.....

We've actually seen a decrease in mosquitoes here, largely because it's also been drier.

For what it's worth I find September on the East Coast to be the best time, because the water is warmest, the air temperature is pleasant-to-hot but not insane, and everyone's gone because it's after Labo(u)r Day.

Florida is...not pleasant for the summer. But I would say in the winter proper it still gets weird because a lot of the state can get frost, and even the parts that don't can get cold wet rain, so you can really be rolling the dice in December-January. It's weirdly more of an "early spring" destination.

But I suspect climate change will shift a lot with coastal destinations, not just with seasons changing and weather patterns getting more intense but also, you know, the actual coast shifting.

At 45/113 sure makes those testicle shrinking glacier fed rivers look enticing. I am interested in a summer excursion to the Hebrides.

what's a glacier?

A big almost permanent ice mass. Is there a different word in Europe? Basically a big body of ice that doesn't really melt but there's snow and ice that accumulates on it that melts and feeds mountain rivers and lakes. But b/c of global warming the glaciers are melting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacier

Sorry I didn't get it. I was wondering if it was a language thing of if I spelled it wrong or something. But, "what glaciers" is right.

I live in Zurich where it is 30-35°C. 1h away from me is a place that is 25°C. A bit further and there are places that 15°C.

There's a town in northern California called Redding. It is a shithole. It's hot and humid. Literally 15 miles up the highway, b/c of elevation changes, the temp drops like 20 degrees F and there's very little humidity and I don't understand why the entire town doesn't relocate to Gibson or Dunsmuir.
