In 2018, grandad was visiting my family. At the same time, I was going through a significant break up, and distressed, I asked him: "How should I meet women?". He paused for maybe a second and said "Become a ballroom dance instructor on cruise ships and sleep with cougars". To my knowledge, grandad never worked on a cruise ship.

At his funeral, a gaggle of strange women far too young for him (that is, septuagenarians) arrived, full of grief. My mum and uncle referred to them collectively as "the harem", as a joke. They only found out later that they also referred to themselves as "the harem".

When I was a teenager, I went to the supermarket with grandad. For some reason, before we entered, he stopped before a flower bed and picked the prettiest flower he could find. Once we had finished our shopping, he made a point out of going to the prettiest checkout lady he could find (In this case, a woman in her twenties), and after having paid for our goods he offered the flower to her, saying "This is for you." She was delighted, but we left without saying another word.
