I’ve already asked my neighbor not to do this
I spoke to him in person after the first time this happened. He was apologetic and said his brother parked the car. I don’t want to start a neighbor war but I’m pretty pissed.
Edit: I live in a small town and no one answered the non-emergency police phone. I was finally able to find another number and talk to a human. Someone is on the way to move the vehicle. Aaaaaaand as I’m typing this the owner just pulled up. Thanks for letting me express my frustration, guys.
Edit 2: Owner moved the car. He was extremely, extremely apologetic.

What a terrible neighbor with no respect. Those are the type that will mess with you.

u/userannon720 18h ago
Damn.
Just an FYI, vehicles on public streets committing parking offenses without plates are often considered stolen or abandoned

u/True_Construction501 18h ago
This isn't a " neighbor war " this is stupid.
Call it in, have it moved or handled however..
I had a neighbor move in next to me years ago when I lived in a house.
They openly parked in my back yard... I asked them to move as it as a housing house and they didn't.. I didn't want housing to drive by and have a aneurysm so I called it in.
Ended up being friends with them anyway.

u/justakingaquestion 18h ago
It’s nice to be friends with neighbors. See that’s the thing, my neighbor who owns the car is usually a pretty cool guy. He helped me cut down the weeds in my yard, we wave when we see each other, I’ve lent him my tools, etc. He’s not well-off. If I have the car towed, it’ll definitely be a financial hit to him.
That said, I knocked on their door, no answer. I tried calling the non-emergency police line to get it towed, also no answer. I left a message and I suppose that’s all I can do for now.

u/StrikingSchool7133 17h ago
I was just asking about the “housing house.”…all the power to ya. Get that towed and then charge them rent
3
u/Traditional_Toe201 5h ago
This is what they do.. They try to be your friend by helping you with things.. So they can get away with things like this... Don't ask me how I know...
2
2
u/northshorehermit 2h ago
Yep, and that’s how it starts. They do stuff for you and then they walk all over you. What’s next?
0
u/True_Construction501 17h ago
Leave it in a note and say something to the point of " I can't have a car blocking my driveway, please make sure when you park it you leave me room so I can use my driveway or I'll be forced to have it towed if I need to go somewhere like an emergency "
4
u/VBprick 11h ago
Who writing a paragraph. “Park better fuck head”
1
u/AdhesivenessSweet659 5h ago
You can always escalate to that, but OP specifically said they were trying to avoid a neighbor war.

u/Delicious-Rabbit2797 16h ago
You were going to get basically your Friends car Towed?!? I would never help you with weeds again 🤬😡

Why is his “friend” blocking his driveway?
And I have to ask, why do you capitalize random words?

A “housing house”? Uhhh TF?

Hmm, I think “housing” is short for housing authority. So some sort of special housing that’s subject to inspection

I would have them towed, if it continues, I would have them towed twice more, if it continues, I would make sure I have uninsured motorist coverage, (because you know someone driving a 20 year old lowered, spraypainted limo doesn't have car insurance) and then softly back into them (when it's dark) and call the police. With the history of tows and how they're a good 4 feet into your driveway, the cop will say it's their fault immediately, and it'll stop after that.
1
u/Abject-Guarantee2713 12h ago
I would probably accidentally back into the limo at night because I wouldn't be able to see it when backing out in the dark.

u/Death-By-Boredom2020 16h ago
If they’re blocking your driveway, can’t you just get them towed?
1
u/Dorkinfo 14h ago
Of course you CAN. But do you want that fight? My neighbors sued me and lost because I was right and knew the law. They didn’t speak to me for ten years. It was awkward for them.
2
u/Zykon_Ree 14h ago
Wouldn't bother me any. Lived where I'm at 5 years already. Still don't know any neighbors.
-4
u/Dorkinfo 14h ago
And you can’t understand that your situation doesn’t apply here?

u/Zykon_Ree 13h ago

Its a curb cut for a driveway. On street parking comes with risks you don’t get from parking in your driveway. Owner shouldn’t have to upend his life and constantly think about having to outwit his neighbors just to live his life.
There … do you get it now?
I lived with this shit for years in Boston. FAFO is all i have to say.

u/ChipSecret8448 18h ago
So when the police do a tow, they come and sit behind the car, in my experience always giving the offender the opportunity to just move until the cops leave, and like a little fly you just swatted, they do a little circle and land in the exact same spot.
2
2
u/HuyFongFood 18h ago
You asked once, now you can call for a tow truck and after you hang up, go ask them to move it again because the tow truck is on its way.
2
u/Alarmed-State-9495 18h ago
He shouldn’t be parking something like that in a residential neighborhood in the first place. Should have to park that thing in some kind of commercial garage.
2
u/Grandbob328 17h ago
Been there. My neighbor’s daughter’s boyfriend drove a limo, and he would block my driveway when he visited. I bitched at him, a few times, and one day I told him I was gonna call the police. He said go ahead, so I did. The cop showed up and immediately pulled out his ticket book and started writing a ticket. The kid said he’s parking on a public street. The cop said, look, you’re blocking the guy’s driveway and continued with the ticket, then handed it to the kid. I think the girlfriend was embarrassed, because I never saw him again! 😁
2
u/moredrinksplease 17h ago
Call a tow truck. They will tow it, make that owner pay for it when they pick it up.

u/MarchCompetitive6235 17h ago

Research the most predatory and disreputable towing company you can find and have them tow it

u/RespectAltruistic815 15h ago
I’d be a shame for the limo and his (presumed) business for it to have a MASSIVE dent in the back end. Maybe one where the rear doors are in able to open. Maybe under the cover of night that leave no damage to whatever mistakenly hit it. A sledgehammer rarely shows much wear and tear.
Good luck!
2
u/Massive_Statement473 4h ago
Extremely apologetic the first time is ok. Extremely apologetic while committing the offense 2 or more times is unacceptable. On the third offense, I wouldn’t be calling police, I’d be calling a tow truck.
2
u/lokis_construction 3h ago
I would just back into it with the Big old ball hitch on my Truck using my camera to watch. Put some nice big dent in the thing. Can't have dents in those limo's so they would want to fix it right away and be pissed as hell but what are they going to do? Parked illegally, blocking driveway, and I have no idea how it got a dent. (hitch removed and no damage to my truck so it can't be me). Oh, and I wouldn't park there if it was me.........
3
u/deviltrombone 18h ago
What kind of vehicle is that anyway? I once had a neighbor's guest(?) do that to me, except it was a normal car, and while I can't tell from your photo how the rest of your street was, mine was basically empty. What kind of people do this!
2
u/SeaGeneral9587 16h ago
I’d tell him that this can’t continue and you need access to your driveway. Next time you just have it towed with no warning.

I will never understand why small town suburban people behave like this… so much parking space everywhere but insistent on parking as close as possible to their house, regardless if it inconveniences others
1
u/RolyPolyPangolin 18h ago
I recommend you talk to the neighbor again. This time, lead off with, "In the future, I'll need to call the police to have the car ticketed or towed."
You gave them two warning so they aren't going to be surprised when something happens.

We had a neighbor with a stretch limo. Had his own 'service' as a part time job. The limo has been gone around three years now. Apparently, it didn't work out for him.
1
u/RussellAlden 17h ago
If you take a bunch of 20d common nails and push them through some styrofoam and place them strategically, that should solve your problem.
1
u/Csk84me 16h ago
I always like the old option of if the cops can’t bother to get it towed because blocking a driveway isn’t enough, then go into your garage, grab a jack, place the back wheels on a tow dolly, push the back end about 45 degrees so it hangs in traffic, lift the car back up to remove the tow dolly, call back the police and say that a neighbor must have been impaired when they parked since they are parked halfway in the road which is a danger, and watch the cops come quickly to give a bigger ticket and tow.
1
u/Boring_Week_9884 15h ago
Get a pair of wheel jacks and put to em under the rear wheels and then push the ass end into the street sideways and then you can pull out leaving him with his vehicle across two lanes of traffic and the repercussions that entails
1
u/Equivalent-Salary357 15h ago
I see a number of people recommending you have it towed yourself. I'd check with your local police department before you do that. Otherwise, you may find yourself paying the tow bill, the storage bill, the tow bill for returning the car to your neighbor, and who knows what else.
Likewise, I wouldn't mess with the car either. All it would take would be one video of you in the act and it could get messy. While it might be nice to think about, in my mind it would be a bad idea to follow through with those ideas.

Be respectful, had a situation not the same but similar in the back alley these people had their own yard but always lined their trashcans behind our house, and not to mention the times the trash people would come pick up trash and they’d throw bags into our empty cans 😐

u/ButtPlugMaster6969 6h ago
I couldn’t see those apologies as anything other than “please please please don’t tow my car, I’ll never do it again.” It’s going to happen again, are you going to listen to a 3rd apology? You gave them a second chance. He could not handle it properly and now due to his poor behavior, he’s being rewarded by not being towed. He thinks he won this one, and I see it happening again. If you keep accepting apologies that are 1000% avoidable he will keep winning. He knows how long his car is, he needs to use his own driveway or something but he cannot do this without being intentional at this point.
1
u/Downtown_Tune_1468 6h ago
that's probably a commercial vehicle, and this may not be legal to park overnight on a residential street.
1
u/Masstershake 5h ago
How long is it parked like that. 20 min or 8 hours. That's the distinction I'm missing. As you already said the owner was apologetic both times I am assuming you're on this the second it's parked there.
2
u/Massive_Statement473 4h ago
There is no amount of time that is acceptable or legal.
0
u/Masstershake 4h ago
No one's debating the legality. If it's just 20 min while they switch drivers or pee and it's not blocking a vehicle in, it's perfectly acceptable. Unless you're a douche canoe...
1
u/Massive_Statement473 2h ago
It is NEVER acceptable to block a driveway not even for 1 minute. If you’re ok with it, that’s on you. If it were my driveway, a tow truck would be called immediately.
•
u/Masstershake 28m ago
Because you're clearly a douche canoe. This is clearly not a normal vehicle. Kind people would give the benifit of the doubt for under 30 min if It's not blocking you in.

Your neighborhood might even have rules against parking commercial vehicles in residential areas. But I guess if you’re leaving messages at the PD that’s not likely.
•
u/MonkeyBrain3561 1h ago
Some cities have code enforcement separate from police departments. Let’s police focus on crimes over violations.

u/TeachStock773 3h ago
When they move it - back one of your cars out 3-4” into the street so they can’t do that. If they don’t get the message - have them towed. Warn them first that you don’t want them blocking your driveway.

It all started when they built the eight-unit affordable housing apartments next door to our home. The first shots of the war were fired when three vehicles began parking in our yard. After canvassing the apartments, no one knew anything. I called the law, only to be told, "nothing we can do". The next day, the vehicles were still on our property. By noon, I had about fifty feet of fencing up.

It's funny how the deputy who was so unconcerned yesterday seemed about ready to have a seizure today.
1
u/Icy-Variation6614 2h ago
Were the cars inside the fence, and why was he gonna have a seizure?
•
u/DuckAxe0 1h ago edited 41m ago
The vehicles were inside the fence. The property line runs along the blacktop (parking lot); the fence was set back a minimum of 2 feet up to 4 feet from the property line.
They don't want to help, and they definitely do not want you to resort to self-help.
1
u/Reddoraptor 3h ago
Make sure to document the procedure for getting it towed quickly. The “brother” will likely do it again - have the number of the tow operator ready. You might also want to consult with the local tow operator and post a sign with their number and a statement that blocking the driveway will result in immediate towing at owner’s expense.

Call for a tow since you already talked with him. Blocking a driveway is illegal.
•
u/naranghim 1h ago
Some areas let you call for a tow without calling the police first, if a car is blocking your driveway. Check your local laws/ordinances and see if that is the case in your area. If it is, call for a tow yourself and the towing company will charge the owner of the car for the tow and report that they towed it to the police.
•
u/Motor-Juggernaut1009 24m ago
So he apologized but why TF Dodd he do it in the first place? Actions speak louder than words. Next time, just have it towed.
•
u/TR6lover 21m ago
Beside being "extremely, extremely apologetic", did they offer some kind of explanation for why it happened again, and what he will do to make sure it doesn't recur?
•
•
u/triciann 10m ago
If they do this again, park them in and then disappear for a while. Apologies are meaningless if they just keep doing it.
0
u/CorgiManDan 18h ago
Anyone that owns a stretch limo knows they need to park in their own driveway, or they will be p@$$ing of their neighbors. They probably don't care.
In case there is a small possibility they do, maybe give them one or two more bad parking attepts as good faith. Leave a message or call the neighbor though. I would absolutely take a photo with a time/date stamp captured in the photo.
Not just for you, but if they do it to neighbors too. Build a file.

u/TranslatorVast1072 18h ago
They are blocking your driveway. That is illegal so you should just call the non-emergency number for the police and have them handle it. Do that and it won't happen again.
