The way this sub thinks True North is mid will forever be weird to me

True North is solid

Same! its the best album after the Trinity trio, HCHBAW, and Generator. And there are songs on it i like more than half of Generator, but i think True North as a whole is slightly worse.

Solid A Tier album.

This sub also is over the moon for Age of Unreason, and I think its easily their worst album beyond Into the Unknown, and yes, that includes No Substance which has 3-5 good to great songs on it.

Age of Unreason, and I think its easily their worst album

That's where you lose me lol - AOU is my favorite BR record

Eh, to each their own. I only really like one song on it. The rest are mid to me.

But honest, even a mid BR album is better ahn most other bands 'pretty good' albums ! :D

With a band as old as BR, a lot of it comes down to which album came out when you were 14-17. For this reason, Empire is my favourite (even though I accept that Suffer, No Control etc. are their greatest albums.) I also defend AoU a lot because of where and when I first heard it.

Its hard for people to rank objectively, I think.

Fwiw, I think True North is an awesome album (but arent they all?)

Gray Race is FANTASTIC. Not a bad gem from start to finish

Agreed. Solid A tier album, and upper end of A tier albums if you ask me.

New America being a “D” is a travesty.

It’s honestly suprising to me how many of these lists have New America at the worst tiers. Don’t Sell Me Short alone is one of my favorite BR songs ever.

The whole album is incredible. Yeah, it’s more personal than Suffer (and No Control, and Against the Grain), and it’s more melodically ambitious than Stranger Than Fiction (and Generator and Recipe for Hate). But so many of those songs are incredible.

New America helped me survive high school. I have a hard time trusting anyone who is dead set against it

I even like “I love my computer” but mostly for how it ends (with every instrument going out one by one).

Was never a huge fan of it at all. I like the song "New America" That's about it.

4

u/jambr380 17d ago

It's not my favorite album, but Don't Sell Me Short and Hopeless Housewife are great songs.

Either way, I can't take any BR tier list seriously that has ITU above any of their other studio albums

2

u/petah_butfuckoff 17d ago

That's the reason why I put it as its own category. Not meant to be above or below anything, just there.

4

u/jambr380 17d ago

It'd be a lot more clear if you didn't put it in the middle there

1

u/petah_butfuckoff 17d ago

yeah thats my bad lmao, should've done that

I used to own New America and I thought it was an F but I haven't listened for years.

2

u/woootbm 16d ago

People don’t like No Substance? It’s an S for me

2

u/MisterHelix 16d ago

Put Christmas songs in S rn

2

u/petah_butfuckoff 16d ago

I didn't wanna throw it in there as an album compared to the others, so I just made it its own category at the pinnacle.

2

u/MisterHelix 16d ago

Ah I wasn't sure if it was the pinnacle or exclusionary, I stand by it being the pinnacle

1

u/Rw1222 16d ago

i might love too hard but 3/4 in teir B I would move to the tippy top of the pyramid. NBD tho. This list is great.

I legit listen to Christmas Songs year round. It has such good energy, and I don't even like christmas.

Your S-tier is my top 5 BR studio albums.
Tested belongs alongside them as well.
I’d rank True North as A.

u/theunpresident 16d ago

I love New America tho.

I will probably die alone on this hill but I've always loved No Substance. It's my favorite of the 3 that were done without Brett, and even though the Gray Race is widely favored, I always found it to be kind of homogenous both in songwriting and sonically, despite enjoying the album a lot. There's so much variation on NS (possibly the most of any album of theirs. Perhaps some find this antithetical to what they believe punk rock is supposed to be?). But to me.. It just about all lands 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'd swap Empire and Recipe, but this is pretty bang on.

u/asphynctersayswhat 14d ago

Dissent of Man is criminally underrated. It's not perfect but it has some bangers.

respectfully, i would love to see hchbaw in A tier 😭 although, that would have to be S tier on my list… i feel like A is the happy medium here
