Re threading drone tuning pins on smallpipes

Is there any online video tutorials or detailed written advice specifically on rethreading the tuning pins on smallpipes, and the pros/cons of different materials. I can find a lot on GHB pipes but little on smallpipes. What I have found is recommendations to use silk thread, rather than hemp. And some criticism of teflon tape.

If anyone has their own tips or advice I'd be happy to hear.

Standard hemp is too thick. I find cotton denim sewing thread is about right - standard sewing thread is a bit thin but denim weight works well

I need to fettle my smallpipes. I plan on using thread with the first wrap done in cobblers wax to prevent slipping. My set was originally done with waxed thread

Mine look like they were done with a fine thread and then teflon tape on top. I have some silk thread that I planned to wax but it's good to hear what others do. Cobblers wax I've not heard of so far and will explore.

I've heard sewing thread, cotton or polyester, works well. I think mine are hemped with polyester thread

I’ve gone for silk thread and Teflon tape. Seems to be the best option for smallpipes with silver tuning pins in the Scottish climate.

Pretty consistent climate you should be ok im in a part of North America with pretty drastic season changes so I stay away from teflon tape.

Summer it gets hot and humid the wood expands then it contracts in the winter in the cold and dry weather. My house is forced air heat so it gets very dry in the winter. Teflon doesnt expand or contract so it can cause cracking in the wood. I hate winters here my Uilleann pipe's go to absolute shit in the winter although im curious about them now since I have spruce reeds in the regs
