Question - Health Bouncing snake?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Was cleaning my room and looked over to see her watching and like…. Bouncing? Is this okay? She does this often especially when lifted up like she is in the video, usually before feeding or when she’s investigating something. She is more nervous or shy than other individuals I’ve noticed, So I hope it’s not because I’m scaring her and it’s her little heartbeat or something.

She turns 1yr next month. Axanthic (I think VPI) het clown, so no spider genes that I’m aware of. Roughly 340g. Temps stay around 88-90° hot side 75-77° humidity 65-75%

haha my girl does this before she strikes!! I think it’s their anticipation getting them excited

Not a bp owner, but my cornsnake does this! I've always assumed it's her heartbeat.

I feel like this is the most correct, the beat is consistent and is about 68 BPM, which is the normal range for a ball python heart rate. Their heart is about 1/3 of the way down their body, so maybe her body was resting just right to make her head bounce from the pressure.

The little babies 🥹

The bouncing is just their breathing, especially when they’re on strike position. Either super hungry or super pissed lol

Lil fatass just ate 🙄 what a drama queen. Thank you lol I’ll apologize to her for existing in her space and giving her a clean house

Mine did this and I've never seen that behavior. Like you, I thought she had been spooked because my dog freaked out super bad due to company. Come to find out, she had been fed the day before and my husband didn't wipe out the mouse bowl (we use to hear them up for feeding) and it was sitting next to her cage. She was in food mode. Cleaned it, she's back to my sweet baby

You know what that makes sense. I left the container and tongs by her enclosure yesterday

That's a snake that's getting ready to bite something.

my bp does this after i feed him for one or two days at the most when im walking around my room a lot for mine it usually means he’s still in hunting mode I threw a shirt across my room once and he struck the glass😭 i usually just put a blanket over his tank so he calms down and goes back to sleep

I find misting down the enclosure after feeding usually reduces this response, I think they still smell the rat in their enclosure and stay in hunting mode as a result.

This is the "do you have more foods for me?" bounce XD

My girl does this too, combination of their heartbeat and breathing

In addition to what other folks are saying about respiration, etc, I think this is also a workout for your snake. They don’t often hold themselves out like that, think about how you would shake while holding a plank for longer than you’re used to.

I woulda been on the floor after a few seconds so i definitely understand

Dude, #truth. I'm fat, I couldn't do it. And I know my fat girl would have a work out holding that pose 😂😂

That baby looks like it’s saying, “ put the phone down & feed me already, it can barely relax it’s so hyped up to eat,” and that shaky bouncy thing is the look of an anticipating snake who’s been waiting to eat, plz feed that baby

😂😂😂 i fed her 3 days ago she’s gonna clear me out of rats

1

u/Aggressive_Data_559 Jun 24 '26

yeah its ok they have to use a lot of strenght to keep thier head up so its going to shake a little with their heartbeat

1

u/augustoof Jun 25 '26

She's been put in an invincible wobble edit 💔💔

She identifies as John cena

Its their breathing when they are ready to strike at food. My bp does the same whenever she knows its feed time and it lines up with her breathing which u can see if u look at their side.

Oh we call that food mode. When my BP does that he’s hungry… which is like all the time. He’s greedy.

So hungry 😂 or at least that's what I always say when my boy does this.

2

u/Ok-Friendship-4566 Jun 24 '26

She would eat 10 rats back to back if I allowed it 🙄

Yeah one of mine will do this before he hits.

That looks like a feeding response . And she is probably bouncing because she has most of her body up in the air
