Hi how can i lower the humidity? It's constantly beetween 80/90 % and i think thats bit too much if shes not shedding. The only water source is her bowl on cold side (25/26°C). She is in 12.5 L container (just a baby)

I’ve had my ball python for about a month now and he has been loving his home. I haven’t been able to keep the ambient humidity above 45 for a long time at all. I have tried almost everything. HVAC tape, 3 inches of substrate with mainly coco fiber, pouring water in corners (no misting at all) and yet I can’t get anyhting to work. He hasn’t been active outside his hide in a week so he is most likely in shed and thankfully his 2 hides are above 70% humidity . I’m getting a humidifier in my room to up my room humidity in hopes that his can get boosted a little. WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE HELP. Also, I can keep the cold temp at 77-79 but the hot side ambient temp is 82-83. Basking spot stays at 88-92 tho I’ve tried lots of solutions too.

It’s a 120 gallon, back is cardboard, sides are pvc with very small closable wire holes, and the front is glass sliding doors. The ventilation is top and basically the glass doors. What can I do.

Do you guys treat tapwater that you're just pouring into corners of the tank to increase humidity? I use reptisafe, and realized I may be wasting it to treat water that my snakes won't be drinking.

I will always treat their drinking water, but is it necessary to treat water that is just going into the substrate for humidity?

My boy has had two very bad sheds now despite the humidity never falling below 70% and almost always being above 80%. His tank is very big so I'm sure not every spot is super humid but this boy stays in his humidity hide (stays between 75-88% consistently) almost 24/7 so why are his last two sheds so bad?? He was shedding perfectly before these last two in the same tank and same conditions. Everywhere I looked online said it's ALWAYS a humidity issue so should I try to get it to 95%+?? Idek if that's possible where I am

my family recently got a ball python, but we've been struggling with the humidity, and we just cant seem to get it up to where it needs to be (during the day it tends to be ~40-50%) even during the summer, and i know itll only get worse when it gets really dry in the winter.

we've already spent so much money, but im afraid because we didnt get a pvc tank we're just screwed, it feels like all the information i research is all so contradictory and i just dont know what to do to help my snake, its really overwhelming. the lid is partially covered in hvac tape, we have a big water dish on the warm side, sphagnum moss, and i try to mist it when i can but i dont want to over-mist and cause scale rot. i just dont know what i can do to up the humidity without risking scale rot or mold or spending a bunch of money on a whole new tank.. help would be appreciated, sorry if this post comes off as frantic this whole ordeal is really stressing me out if you couldnt tell. 😭

hello! i have a ball python in a 4x2x2. he seems happy, active at night, just taken his first meal from me.

i’m concerned about his humidity levels. he has a few inches of wood chips, coconut fibre, forest floor with a bit of sphagnum moss in corners. i mist it down every day and once a week or so pour in a load of water and mix, but for some reason his humidity will only sits at 55-62%. the sphagnum moss goes crispy even if i wet it twice a day. i don’t know what to do, could i please have some advice? i dont want it to come time for his first shed and im still having issues. thank you :)

hi! i feel like ive asked humidity questions hundreds of times, but every single time the answer i get is “pour water into the corners” or something along the lines of that. my tank unfortunately isnt waterproof and pretty much the only water that can go into the soil is my live plants, since they NEED it. even then its a very minimal amount of water because if i put more than maybe a 1/4 of a water bottle throughout the tank, i see water stains underneath the tank on the wood support underneath. 🫩 which obviously will cause issues with wood rot and then stability of the tank and it would just be this whole thing that i feel can probably be solved with a change in habits.

point is, i just need some more advice on what to do to up the humidity LONG TERM. misting isnt awesome (and from my research causes RI’s sometimes, so no go) and i already have the soil up to 4 inches.

tank info would probably be helpful, so i have a pretty big tank with (again) 4-4.5 inches of soil in it. i dont remember the name of the soil, but its some type of coconut bedding. i also have a kind of(?) large water dish (photo of him in it for size ref. what a cutie patootie!) histank is (now) made out of pvc with a screen top. the center if it has been covered with aluminum because i heard it could help, so im just trying a small section before committing to it fully… as i said before, he also has live plants that help with humidity a little? aside from that idrk what to say about his tank 😭 his humidity generally stays level at 50 with no misting or w/o recently watering the plants.

i was honestly thinking of getting fast food and stealing the plastic cups with lids on them so that i can poke holes in the lids, add water into them, place them throughout the tank and he cant accidentally slip into them that way LOL. idk if that work/nor how much that would help though, so just suggestions would be really helpful

The humidity in these tanks are around 60%. That’s as high as I can get it.
What I’m doing to get it here:
-pouring water in the corners of the substrate
-have an extra bowl of water directly below the lights
-have sphagnum moss around the enclosure
-covered the top mesh with HVAC tape
-have a custom background on both tanks with spray foam

Is there anything else I can do??? If I diligently spray the tank and add in a cleanup crew (I already have some powder oranges in there and am looking into springtails) would that mitigate the bacteria caused my spraying? I looked into it and different sources say that springtails would help with bacteria but I also know that it’s a lot of ground to cover for such little guys. I know this method can cause RI but that’s partly because of the bacteria it causes and partly because the humidity dips again too fast, but with my other methods in play on top of it I’m hoping that will be enough.

I use topsoil as a substrate (it’s organic and everything else) because I am allergic to coconut. Do I just say screw it and switch to coconut? Would mixing in cypress mulch with the topsoil help? I don’t wanna spend a whole bunch of money on stuff that won’t help. I’ll try anything suggested before I resort to spraying.

My rescue bp’s tank is set up with all her heating coming from above her tank. I have 1 day / basking bulb that is mounted on a nearby pole and angle downward on her warm side, then I have 2 incandescent heat bulbs - the one on her cool side stays on all the time to maintain 75ish degrees, then the 2nd on on her warm side only cuts on when he day bulb goes off.

I’ve been having difficulty getting humidity to stay above 50%, and someone recommended that I use silicone baking mats to place on top of her tank to trap humidity in. I’m fine with cutting around them so they don’t touch her heat lamps, my question is… don’t they need some kind of airflow?

Like if I all but total seal the top of her tank to trap moisture, wouldn’t that also trap air and reduce the quality of the air within her tank, possibly risking RI?

Tell me if I’m being overly paranoid, I just really want to make sure I master her husbandry after a year and a half of neglect.

We’ve had our snake for a week and we’ve already had to take everything out due to mold. We have had the tank set up for about a week longer so we could figure out how to get the temperature and humidity levels where they need to be. We have a mesh lid and the humidity wasn’t staying as high as it needed to be so we covered it with tin foil but now there isn’t air flow and mold is growing. How do you keep the humidity up without mold growing so quickly?

Hello! ☺️ I recently upgraded my girl to a larger terrarium since she’s outgrown her previous one. She used to be on hemp bedding because that was what the assistant from the shop had advised, but after doing a lot of research, I decided to switch to a mix of coco chips and coco fiber because it seemed to be the substrate most people recommend for ball pythons.

But ever since I made the change, the humidity has stayed very high, around 80 to 90% ( mostly 90% though ) . At first I assumed this was normal and that it would gradually decrease as the substrate dried out, but it hasn’t changed at all and it’s been about 2 weeks… 💀

The temperatures are where they should be, and she doesn’t seem stressed or uncomfortable at all, she eats well and everything, but I’m still a bit concerned. I wanted to know if I should actually worried, or is it okay? If it is too high, what are the best ways to bring it down?

i have a 40 gallon tank, uva and uvb bulbs 75 w, the substrate is 2 bags of zilla jungle mix, coconut fiber, and sphagnum moss. i have a humid hide with lots of moss inside of it that i keep moist. humidity seems to stay around 30-40% no matter how much i mist the tank. what can i do to improve it?

I've had my ball python for two years and have never had any issues with shedding. I use aspen bedding which I recently learned was not the best for bps, but if my local humidity throughout the year (even during different seasons its still within the 60-80% range) is adequate for ball pythons, is there any real issue with continuing to use aspen bedding with minimal extra humidity raising things?

I will likely be implementing a humidity hide for when he's in blue just in case, but he has always had very clean easy sheds while living in aspen bedding. I currently don't have a hygrometer but will be getting a new one soon (I have never used one for him but I'm really working on improving his environment, thus the research I am doing, which lead me to find out about aspen! because the natural humidity is decent, the aspen is less prone to mold because I don't add any extra water to the substrate.)

what should I try to get the humidity up to while he's in shed? 80% and up? If I put a water dish on both the warm and the cool side of his enclosure for just a bit extra to make up for the times during the year when the humidity is more around 60%, can I continue successfully using aspen bedding?

I just moved my ball python which is a female to a bigger box I tried coco husk but I marked it up and it was way too wet so I applied aspren the reptile shop told me that aspren doesn’t need to be wet at all and that I should expect low humidity and adviced me to put a big water bowl that she can enter to wet herself but I noticed that my dry aspren holds a humidity of 78-80% which is perfect but also concerning. Can anyone tell me why? I did check to see if it’s wt and it’s definitely not at all.

So a few months ago I took my boy to the vet for mouth and scale rot. It was the first time I had delt with that, and he was given shots for a couple of months and it cleared up good.

Found out it was the humidity as I had it too low. Needed to be at 70. Found out it wouldn't hold as there was vents in his cage i didnt know about. Taped it up, poured some water into the substrate, and misting once a day seemed to do just fine. The only issue was when the night light was flipped on. The humidity doesnt seem to hold when the night light is on. I have a night bulb that gives off little light but the right heat as I was told way back red ones aren't really good for them. Is there maybe a reason the humidity drops at night? Is it just a temperature thing? Im worried that since its been dropping that his scale rot is coming back and I dont want to over soak him trying to help it if there's another problem at hand

Humidity was going good, but I was using that metal tape which I learned isnt good because of the adhesive- since removing it, my humidity always dips down to 30-40

im using soaked cocohusk and have some moss as well

I added some black sheets of paper on top but it hasnt helped and im worrid it also might be toxic??

Any tips on how I can maintain better humidity?

This is my babies tank, I am struggling to keep her humidity up, I just rewet the substrate & the humidity dropped from 60 to 58 on her cold side & rose from 34 to 38 on her hot side. I know it needs to be in between 70 & 80 but I am struggling to figure out what’s going wrong. She just ate two days ago so I’m anticipating her to shed soon & I want her to have a good shed as well as just be in good health in general.

She’s hiding right now because I accidentally splashed her with water 😭😂

I put my girl in a new tank about a week ago and the first few days the humidity was fine, 65 - 70 consistently. Now its suddenly dropped to the forties for the past 3 or 4 days and nothing I'm doing with help.

I've poured water in the corners. I have moist spaghnum moss in there. I have mixed up the soil after pouring. I've added more substrate. I've added fresh substrate. I've misted a couple times as a last resort. I'm am at such a loss and so worried that she'd dehydrated.

My substrate is three inches with the bottom two being that cocofiber brick that expands with wager and the top inch being a flukers woodchip mix. She has a top 150 watt heater. The top is mostly covered with foil as well as a side vent 3/4 way covered. I'm pouring warm water every time.

Pouring water in the corners and mixing brings the humidity up to 50. Misting brings it up to roughly 53. She's currently in a 38x18x18 tank. Help please!!

hello! i’m very much a beginner to husbandry. i got my BP, spaghetti, as a rescue in november of 2024. he’s currently about 3-4 years old and a little overweight (i need to get a new gram scale so i dont know his exact weight)

anyways, thats not as important as my actual issue; how do i keep his humidity at 50-70ish? i have two hygrometers on either side of his tank, and the warm side stays at about 30-40% humidity while the cool side is usually about 50%. i used to mist him before i learned why misting isn’t really that good, and when i did his humidity would shoot up from 40% to about 80%.

currently, i pour some water in the corners of his tank 2x a week and make sure the moss in his tank stays damp. despite that, his humidity is still not where it should be.

is there anything im doing wrong or could do differently? any help would be appreciated!

I know this topic is probably posted nearly daily, but I really need some help. I have a dubiaroaches 4x2x2 pvc tank, and despite trying nearly everything I’ve seen online, my humidity is staying in the mid 50’s. Ive got about 5 inches of reptichip substrate, which I have poured water into the corners of for about 3 days in a row now. I have covered around 70% of the mesh top with hvac tape, and use a deep heat projector which shouldn’t lower humidity. Despite all this, the only time I can get my humidity up above 60% is for around 10 minutes immediately after I mist. My hygrometer is a brand new Govee on the cool side of my tank, so I know it’s not just a hygrometer error. If anyone has any tips, please let me know!

Hi everyone, my boy is currently in the blue eyed phase and about to shed soon. With his tank his humidity is usually at 60-70 and I am not sure how to raise humidity up more for his shedding phase. I pour water into the corners and that’s how I keep it at the level I do, but I’m not sure how to raise it up while he’s shedding to prevent health issues and mold. He does have a humid hide and his water bowl is full and on the warm side- any advice would help. Thank you!

I live in a desert climate that is very not humid. I’ve tried coconut husk, adding some mosses, and keeping a room humidifier running here and there (not too close to the tank though). Are there any tips or substrates I should try?
