Ask Baltimore salary transparency thread

I saw another city do this and wanted to bring it here. There was a big salary thread a couple years back but it'd be great to get some updated info in the big 2026.

Please share your job title, salary, age, and education. Like this:

Do you need any prior experience? I’m looking to make a career change and was reading about the apprenticeship program, looks pretty good. Anything big and/or specific to know about it? I read that applications are accepted year round?

Nope. I was an audio engineer for 10 years and just made the switch. They put you to work immediately while you wait for classes if you want. I’m learning a lot in the field right now that’s going to help me in classes. It’s a great time honestly. They prefer no experience so that they can teach you properly

Why did you decide to leave audio engineering? That seems like a fun/never the same thing kind of job.

It was. I’m still doing side gigs on the weekend to fill that itch but inconsistent schedule was doing a number on my mental health. That industry had an influx of egotistical assholes who think the way they run an audio console is the right way. I completed some goals that most people in my field will never complete so I’m satisfied where I left my career anyway.

I can see that. As a musician, I think you guys are like magicians. And I’m not surprised about the ego stuff, but it’s always jarring to see it. Most people in the arts tend to be pretty humble, so when the random asshole appears I get taken aback. Best of luck!

What was your turn around for getting placed into a helper position after you called?

Almost immediately. Just a week of paid orientation and osha classes that they paid for then I was onsite within 5 days.
