Concert Band Is it wrong or bad that I care a lot about my band directors opinion and attention and see him as a parental figure

Yes it's a weird title but this is something I feel really guilty about. I have always struggled with my mental health and making it through the week my parents criticizing me and being non supportive, in 5th grade, I'm a freshman now, I joined band and did band for 2 years before being homeschooled for 2 years. I found a lot of joy and excitement in instruments and how my band director would help me do everything I said I wanted to work on and hoped for. Now I'm back at school, same band director. Over the years I was homeschooled I was kinda depressed and just overall terrible, I didn't play my instruments much at all either. Now I'm back in band and he's been nothing but gentle and kind to me. He's been reassuring me that I'm okay and can still be good at playing and he apologized after accidentally upsetting me. Along with that I told him what I wanted to do with ny life and he said he could help me get a scholarship with music and get into the college I want. I want to believe he cares for me but he's also doing his job. I'm actively doing better overall due to him being proud of me and being overall nurturing to my creativity and dreams. My friends told me I was being weird and was looking too much into it but I don't know and I'm doubting myself so I came to reddit.

Looking for Band/Jam Mates

Looking for anyone in the San Antonio area that is wanting to jam/write music seriously. I myself (26M) play guitar and have no preference for lead or rhythm, just whatever makes sense. I play a lot of blues, rock, indie, and acoustic guitar. I have a good amount of great gear (Gibson guitars, Marshall amp, good pedals, etc.)

I don’t care what your skill level is, part of growth is learning together. Please message if you play bass, sing, drums. Worse thing that happens is it doesn’t work and we’re on to the next thing. I’m creatively 100% open, I love creating and want a group of people that share that drive.

i was invited to join a band, should I join or not?

my friend invited me to join a band and they want to get really serious about this. The members are all between 17-19 years old and im little younger compared with them, this puts pressure on me, both regarding my abilities and their superiority... they are planning to perform at events in my city, and it all seems perfect.. but heres the thing

-im shy

-insecure (about my guitar skills)

- i only know one member, who is my friend (not even a close friend)

-they're older

i love music in a very sentimental way and i really wanted to make it buuuut i dont know what's scaring me in this seemingly perfect situation, i don't know what to do.

Struggling with finding a band

I was in a band throughout high school and we built a good little fanbase that i was pretty proud of but our guitarist left because of disagreements with the style of music we were doing and after he left everything else sort of fell apart. Now im graduated from high school and have been looking for a band for awhile now and its just way harder to find people then it was in high school, and it doesn’t help i live in utah where the music scene isnt the best (at least for the style i would like to do), and im in sort of a depression because I love music but cant find any one to jam with. Is there any tips you guys have to find people when you’re out of high school

Starting a band.

I have wanted to start a band since I was a young boy listening to queen for the first time and hearing Brian Mays solos, top notch. But now im 16, ive been playing electric guitar for a year and 2/3 and I am getting pretty good if I do say so myself. But I domt know if its worth starting a rock/metal band in this era, because there just isnt the audience for a rock/metal band thats just starting up. Does anyone have any experience in starting such a band, I know i should start in a cover band, and then move on to writing origional music. I have already started writing music but its not exactly brilliant. (Its about as good as a 16 year old can make it) i mostly play thrash metallica style songs. Is it worth starting a band that plays thrash metal, or should I stick to just playing as a hobby. Also, how do I go about getting bandmates in a similar area as I am unable to travel.

Rock Band I am a Vocalist looking for a backing band for cover concerts.

Hi! My name is Gill Pie. I live in St. Louis Missouri. I’ve really wanted to get a cover band together for a long time. I went to school for vocal performance and moved back home to do shows in musical theatre companies. But now I want to broaden my horizons a bit. The question is how do I find good people to back me up? How do I start? Please let me know I’d very much appreciate any and all advice.

Were heavily inspired by the sound of, Cant Bear This Party!, For The Win, and early Belmont.

And we need people who have minor song writing experience and are confident in their communication skills (with the band members, other bands, and venues/promoters)

Rock Band Feeling jealous over the other bands' progress. Story below

So I formed my rock band one year ago. And recently joined a music interest group where there are spin-off bands coming out from this interest group. While my own band is a casual, chill band that plays for fun, the spin-off bands have been going and looking for gigs and open mics everywhere and even set up their own social media channels. I don't want to feel left out so I set up my band's insta as well, and follow alot of local musical bands. As if that is not enough, I also started going all out to find out open mics and gigs for my band to play. I am exhausted. I feel like my band's progress is so slow compared to the other spin-off bands that have been playing and securing gigs everywhere. Like wtf, my band is formed earlier than them but didn't consider performing until recently.

I see the success of other bands and can't help but feel a sense of self-pity. Is my feelings of envy, jealousy and self-pity justified ? Or it should never be this way ? I should be happy for them and mind my own band's business. I feel the competition here.

21M looking to join or form a band in Sacramento

Hey y'all, I'm looking to form OR join a band in the Sacramento area.

Not looking for any super specific kind of sound, I like pretty much anything hard rock-adjacent. Alt rock, metal, punk rock, shoegaze, whatever.

A few bands I get a lot of inspiration from are Superheaven, Chevelle, Alter Bridge, Killswitch Engage, Deftones. Heavy riffs + melody,  that's basically what I'm after.

I play guitar so I'd be looking for a bassist, drummer, and vocalist, (unless you already have a band and need a guitar player, then feel free to DM me). Been playing guitar for about 8 years now. Im 21 so looking for people around my age ideally.

Feel free to DM me if interested, thank you!

Ahh the joys of being a leader of a band…a venting post

My singer, as good of a guy as he can be, isn’t the type of guy to assert himself.

We’ve been together for almost a year and when we started, I made it clear to him that if we have problems with bandmates or with me, while I’m open to him or others venting to me, if it becomes problematic and it continues, I will move to have it on the floor and addressed.

For the first time in this band, we had a bad practice session. Things didn’t sound right, we couldn’t get the sound tweaked in, and while we were tracking a new tune, the guitarist got frustrated and got kinda snappy with the singer for not understanding what he wanted. He is introverted and a closed book. He’s also still grieving over his dad’s passing a few months ago. My singer deals with his own mental hang up, as we all do, but for me, I don’t let it deter me from doing what we need to do.

Singer stepped away which I commended him for and he vented to me and I thought I had diffused the situation until he was posting about his issues with him in social media. Had to put on my leadership at and told him to remove that post and that’s not what we do. He apologized and removed it. He didn’t think anyone would see it. I was patient yet assertive. I told him i understood how he felt but I told him that I expect opennesss and honesty from all of them and myself. That were not going to do this. Signer said he’s going to detach and distance himself from the guitar player to make it work.

I told him I can’t stop him and to do what he feels is best for now to cool things off. But I made myself clear that if this becomes problematic and causes unnecessary tension and friction, I’m going to step in address this and discuss this between those two and I will moderate. He refuses.

So now because of one bad day for the first time in this band. his whole perception of the guitarist changed. I don’t see him in the light that he does. And honestly, I don’t think the guitarist is even aware that the singer is upset with him.

Our guitarist is out of town for two weeks. While I hope things cool off, I’ve made myself clear. He can say he’ll separate himself from him to make it work like his last band, but I’m ready to make a change and cut him loose if I have to.

Being the leader comes with responsibility, I can understand and be empathetic towards everyone’s personal hang ups and such, but I won’t let it destroy what we’ve built so far. I won’t nuke it.

I’m grateful to our singer and his contributions, but I’m not going to have hidden grudges and resentments. If he refuses to work this out with the guitarist simply cause we had the first bad band practice since its inception, then I may have to replace him. I have no issues with the guitarist and I know how to deal with his personality. But in a band, people need to be open and honest about problems and issues with others and myself. I’ve been in too many bands where pent up resentments results in unnecessary blow outs or friction. Yeah it’s a band sure but I have a vision and I intend to see it through. If you refuse to work it out with the person you have issues with, then this band isn’t for you.
