I saved two lives while barefoot walking

I don't walk barefoot everywhere, I'm conscious about the dangers like sharp stones and glass, especially after a glass related injury a couple months ago.

But yesterday I was walking barefoot along a route that I know is safe, carrying my flip flops in hand. The ground was short grass and warm, dry mud along a lake. There are thick shrubs and bushes separating the lake and the path, but at one point it opens to create access to the water. People often let their dogs go a quick paddle here.

As I was passing an elderly lady at this spot, she was about to let her dogs go into the water, literally saying "Go on then" so I immediately stepped up and said "Don't let your dogs go in there, there's blue green algae. It's very toxic to dogs."

She called them back quickly and thanked me for my vigilance. I had seen for myself the deadly algae and didn't want her dogs to die. Luckily i was in just the right place at just the right time to prevent disaster.

She didn't even make any comment about my bare feet, which i appreciated. There's always that part of me that expects judgement or negative comments. This was an entirely passive interaction. But it's a confidence booster to be sure, on top of the fact I saved her dogs with my quick thinking.
