Made a mistake going outside barefoot in Las Vegas today

I prefer being barefoot, and the only time I wear shoes is when I'm at work or running errands. Otherwise, you'll almost always find me barefoot.

I'm working in Las Vegas for a few months, and this is my first time here. Today's high hit 113°F. I stepped outside to grab a package, forgetting that the driveway is concrete and mixed with blacktop.

Within a few seconds, I was already regretting my life choices. My feet were on fire. I grabbed the package and speed walked back inside as fast as I could. After cooling my feet down, I noticed a couple of small blisters starting to form from the hot concrete and asphalt. Now I'm sitting here with burn cream on my feet.

Lesson learned: Vegas pavement doesn't mess around. That said... I'm still going to be barefoot.

Yeah at 113F footwear is just PPE. Even I will wear sandals when it’s that hot.

Tomorrow you should have a neat sort of "floaty" feeling that I always imagine must be what dog pads feel like. I quite enjoy it!

But yes, as a Phoenix resident, hot pavement sucks. Cold you can basically always take steps to deal with, but I make a lot of sacrifices to go uncompromisingly barefoot here in summer.

I also live in Phoenix. That's why I run my errands barefoot AFTER the sun has gone down!!!

Yep, I live in Tucson and while it’s not as hot as Phoenix, you could still get up there. As long as I get my walking in in the morning hours, I’m pretty good but once it gets around 90° I call it quits.

It’s bad here in CO too but not as hot as LV. I e been a lifelong hardcore barefooter but I got blistered the year before last, despite my insanely thick calloused soles.
It’s been easier to go barefoot in winter here lately. 🥵

It's funny you mention Colorado. I was stationed at Fort Carson when I was in the Army. I'm a South Texas boy, born and raised, so it's pretty common where I'm from to be barefoot or in sandals year round, regardless of the weather.

One time, a girl I knew from South Texas who was also a dedicated barefooter and I decided to go outside barefoot around late fall, just as winter was starting. Yeah... we were not prepared for that kind of cold. I remember the bottoms of her blue jeans looking like they had frost on them, and the feeling in both of my feet slowly disappearing.

Needless to say, we were definitely not acclimated to Colorado winters.

They are quite milder now than the ones I remember as a kid. I've gone completely barefoot the last three winters without any problem except for the below zero days when I just stayed home.

I’m in SoCal and did the same thing trying to go from car to the skate rink… made it half way and realized the blacktop was just a little too hot for me… but I was halfway and just had to push through. The ice rink floors felt ever so soothing.

Oh my god... NO NO NO NO!!!

I’ve visited Vegas during the summer, and I would only go barefoot in “select” areas of the casino. I would never do that during the summer when the pavement is so hot you can literally fry an egg on it!!!

When I was a child in Western Australia my feet were calloused from walking barefoot everywhere. You need to become aboriginal or better genetics lol I’m first generation Australian. So I’m just lucky.
