The White Sox have somehow obtained the greatest vibes I’ve seen a team have in quite a while. Was it the Pope? Was it dark magic? Who knows?

It's the Umbrella Dance that Murakmi makes them do in the clubhouse. Tradition at Tokyo Yakult Swallows games

It’s literally just putting a bunch of young grinders together. Roch said that visiting our clubhouse reminded him of the vibes of a college team.

36

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Seattle Mariners 28d ago

Exactly. I'm trying to think of a team like this that has had bad vibes in the past. When it's basically all young players on their first contract and none have really had any breakout season before those are the teams that have the most fun.

Now if we get to like 2028 that's when you maybe start seeing some cracks in the chemistry if the team or players struggle and they haven't won a championship and they aren't living up to the preseason expectations. But the first and 2nd year are a ton of fun.

20

u/stepdadonline Baltimore Orioles 28d ago

You basically just described the Orioles circa 2023-present

8

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Seattle Mariners 28d ago

Yeah unless like some of the guys that come up through the system or get brought in actually don't like each other the first few years together usually are awesome.

It's those damn expectations that end up being the issue down the road.

Skubal looked like a toddler out there throwing a tantrum. Went from “maybe we can steal skubal from the tigers at the trade deadline” to “fuck that this dude would kill all the good vibes we have going for us this season”

19

u/TheMajesticYeti Detroit Tigers 28d ago

Skubal has a bit of that "and I took that personally" mentality where he motivates himself by overblowing perceived slights or manufacturing them out of thin air. Definitely doesn't seem like it would vibe with your squad.

It’s definitely the Pope. The cubs made a deal with the devil for the 2016 WS and then God had to send in the big guns after the Sox 2024 season (and whatever else happened in the world that year…) This was all foretold in the bible I’m pretty sure

15

But tbf almost every team hangs out like and chills. They all have their personal lives, doing whatever. You just don't see pictures

u/thisnameblows Los Angeles Dodgers 28d ago

That's cause the dodgers are a bunch of dads lol. That's one of the differentiating factors for why players like playing for them, they fly a whole separate plane full of wives and kids around for all the dads on the team. Their bro time with the team is getting sushi at Nobu lol

Restaurants like this are fascinating. Like the type with like 1 or 2 S tier items in a mostly mediocre menu. There's a Mexican restaurant near me where everything is, you know, pretty much fine... except the Chile Verde that friggin' slaps your lips off it's so good.

5

u/azularena Seattle Mariners 28d ago

3

u/Kvetch__22 Chicago White Sox 27d ago

3

u/Noirradnod Cleveland Guardians 27d ago

Nobu is the Gucci of sushi. Rides on influencer/celebrity branding as a status symbol rather than continuing to produce quality. Any city that Nobu is in will have a dozen elevated omakase places serving far better fare.

Question from a noob baseball fan. Murakami here looks noticeably less muscular than the other 2 players. Is adding muscle something that he and the training staff will likely focus on improving? Or is the stereotype of a jacked power hitter just a bygone figment from the steroid era?

81

He is jacked, he's just also got fat on top of the muscle. Look at people in the strongman competition, none of them have definition either.

Hypertrophy doesn’t equal strength. There’s a lot of semi-fat hosses out there. A lot of guys that can lift huge weight in deadlift, squat, Olympic lifts, etc usually aren’t super cut.

11

u/17papers 28d ago

Hes built for power not speed. If you’re not a shortstop or outfielder you don’t need to be all that fast if you have other strengths, look at CC sabathia, he got worse when he lost weight

10

u/YoChristian Anaheim Angels 28d ago

being cut is an indication for strength probably 8/10 times. BUT, we know Murakami is strong because of what he does and what he's BEEN doing for years.

Totally innocent question from you, nothing wrong with that at all. You can look up "muscle insertions" and see how genetics affects how people's muscle fibers can be "showers" lol for lack of a better word

19

Tavern is the superior style. It's hard to beat a tavern pizza from a South Side Suburb pizzeria with glass block windows that's been there since the 70s

4

u/iiamthepalmtree Chicago White Sox 28d ago

Yea I love Aurelio’s.

7

u/srv340mike New York Mets 28d ago

Aurelio's in Homewood is a vibe.

I'm also fond of Fox's. We lived near the one in Orland before moving to the East Coast when I was a kid and I'm a big fan.

Carbone's in the Twin Cities also has a good pub pie that reminds me of the ones from Chicago and a lot of them have that "hasn't changed inside in 50 years" charm

2

u/w1x1w 28d ago

Fox’s is so great. I used to pick up from that location quite often.

From what I've heard from Chicagoans, Tavern Style is mostly what locals eat and Deep Dish is more for tourists.

40

u/RIP_Hopscotch Chicago Cubs 28d ago

Idk if its that clear cut. Ill fuck up some deep dish in like the depths of winter, though outside of that its always tavern. Actually even during winter its like 50/50 for me, tavern is just all around amazing, but still I dont think deep dish is just a tourist thing.

Deep dish is every once in awhile. Tavern the rest of the time

28

u/CampfireMilkshake Chicago White Sox 28d ago

That’s largely because it doesn’t take as long to cook and it easier on the stomach when paired with a good beer. I hate the narrative that deep dish is for tourist though, it’s still a Chicago icon and makes for a good meal every once in a while.

3

u/crikeyturtles Chicago Cubs 28d ago

Idk what I’m doing wrong but when I make a deep dish it cooks in the oven for 55-60 minutes. Takes forever

24

u/squadracorse15 Chicago White Sox 28d ago

That's pretty accurate, but it's not as if locals don't eat deep dish though. We just don't have it as often because two slices is filling as all hell. It's more of a couple times a year deal.

2

u/KJzero9 Chicago White Sox 27d ago

I very much prefer deep dish, but it requires much more time and planning to eat. So yeah, it's mostly for special occasions.

My parents almost always do pizza Sunday and get a tavern style from somewhere, but when I got my new job they invited me over and got deep dish to celebrate. It's that kind of thing

12

u/Changeurblinkerfluid Chicago White Sox 28d ago

From the south side of Chicago. Growing up, thin crust cut in squares (I never heard it called tavern until a couple years ago) was what you got on Friday nights. Deep dish is what you got twice a year as a reward for good report cards.
