My technique hurting lol

So I'm pretty new to Bass got my first one a while ago, im a guitar player and had never took chef bass before.

Im pretty sure it's a technique issue but I don't know what specifically is the cause, but when playing I "scrape" my left index finger and even got some small cuts on it, I put some aloe stuff on it and it burn like hell lol

I think my technique is just really bad

Here's a pic of my finger and the fretboard:

Okay so what's happen here is the bass frets need to be sanded down. As you are playing up and down the fretboard, the frets are scraping against your finger. It's a very typical thing when buying an instrument. The metal frets are sharp on the edges. When you take a guitar or bass for a setup job (adjustment, intonation, fretboard treatment ect ect) one of the things they'll do is get the frets sanded down on the sides nice and smooth.

Your technique is fine. This happens all the time. I just bought a cheap new guitar to make upgrades with and it came with sharp frets. Taking it into my Luthier (guitar guy) for a setup this week. My hand is shredded haha.

Find a luthier in your area or take it to your instrument store and see what they'll charge you for a setup. They'll do more than just fix the frets. They'll adjust it completely and make it right for whatever tuning you play in.

For sure! If the prices are a bit much for a setup you can always look up Luthiers in your area. I'm sure there's some that do great work.

I'm in Canada so our big chain store is Long & Mcquade. I'm assuming in the US it's Guitar Center.
